drank Champagne Cider by Butiki Teas

Mmm… enjoying this with very very fine slices of raisin bread slathered in butter, and some freeze dried apple bits.

When I started drinking tea I didn’t think an apple tea was anything to go for. But now I have a little bit of this one left, and a whole lot of the Caramel Apple Gui Fei. And yum. :) I’m still not sure it’s a flavour I’ll try to hunt down, but it’s something my mind and taste buds are more open to.

This is a delicious cinnamon-apple herbal tea. There’s a bit of a feel of effervescence. Not so much champagne, but still delicious.

drank Latkes & Applesauce by Butiki Teas

I don’t remember which one of my tea friends did this, but I added a pinch of salt AND a touch of maple syrup to the tea as it was steeping. It smells delicious. Carby and cinnamony and appley. No doubt helped out by the bread I have rising in the oven (I was going to fridge-rise it, but I’m in loads of pain so I’m going to make the bread and THEN go into work. Ha. Comfort food will help, I’m sure.)

It is kind of asparagus-y from the base tea. Not terrible, but not a favourite flavour. So why did I get more of this? Umm, IDK really. Because it’s super neat and I wanted to try it again?

I love the apple and cinnamon and the potato. And adding salt AND sweetener was a good idea. The salt is bringing out the asparagus, but also the potato. The maple syrup is a great accompaniment to everything except possibly the asparagus. :) I didn’t get much of this, so I don’t have many cups left to taste. But I’m really glad I did get more. It’s so unique that it’s fun to drink every once in a while.

drank 4 Knights by Tealux

Sample from Kittenna. Thank you! :)

Sooo, Tealux fails with steeping instructions (I was curious because this is a blend…). “Steep in hot water for a few minutes…” What? That’s not vague at all. :)

Because this is quite a smoky tea, I decided to preemptively add some maple syrup. 1 tsp in my 16 oz mug. I also added a little milk, but it didn’t need it.

Although the tea smells super thick and smokey and heavy, it’s actually fairly light. Yes, it’s smokey, but it’s not as rich and thick as I was expecting.

It reminds me of my dad’s smoked jerky, honestly. Really smokey, almost kinda meaty. So weird. I haven’t had a tea like that before.

Thank you for sharing, Kittenna! I don’t think I’ll pick this up when I order… one mug is probably enough.

Does the maple syrup help to balance out the smokiness or is it just a nice, complementary flavor?

OMGsrsly

I think it balances it. Both with the flavour and the little bit of sweetness.

Thank you for sharing, Kittenna. Sadly, I don’t think this is at all for me.

It’s super broken up leaves, and reading other notes that’s not because of travel – it’s supposed to be that way. Steeping it, it smells like grass and spinach. Hot, it tastes like that too.

Not exactly my favourite kinds of flavours. And yet, I keep trying green teas.

I don’t think this is a bad quality tea. It’s a bit bitter, but not astringent. The flavour is full, and the texture is great. It’s just made up of flavours I don’t care for.

drank Crimson Horizon by Butiki Teas

One of the jerkfaces in my building turned the heat down before I got up, so I’m sitting here, so cold, eating frozen berries and yogurt (it was warm in here when I went grocery shopping!) and drinking hot tea. I’m also wrapped in polar fleece, sitting cross-legged in my chair. Brr. (It’s a boiler/radiator system so it takes forever to warm up again…)

I like this tea a lot. Suuuuuuper strong. Verrrrrrry malty. Perfect hot with milk. I love CTCs, and this is a good example of a “good but really strong” one. :)

have you tried others that you could recommend?

OMGsrsly

They’re usually Assams, and my favourite is “Rungagora BPS-CTC” that my mom gets at the Tea Centre in Courtenay. I’m pretty sure it’s available elsewhere.

You know, this is weird, but it’s not anywhere near as scary as I was expecting. In fact, I’d say I quite like this tea!

The licoricey flavour is from fennel seeds and “anise”, which I’m guessing is star anise. The peppermint is actually mild. The lemon balm and blackberry leaves are good.

It smells SUPER syrupy, and the fennel seeds are very strong, so there is a lingering fresh licorice-mint flavour.

I think I’d prefer it without the mint, but the mint feels like such an important component of the tea. It really balances the sweetness of the blackberry leaves and fennel with the herbacious “medicinal” flavours some of the other herbs have.

Thanks so much for sharing, MissB (and Sil and Kittenna…). Honestly, if this were easily available I’d pick some up, but I really don’t need 100g!

(Also, look at how they present their teas on their website! Aaahhh!! The tea cups! So great. http://www.cupantae.eu/shop/herbal-teas/storm-in-a-teacup/ )

This was tied for my favorite tea house in Europe (that I visited); I could easily live in this place. Galway, Ireland, I will return! Tied was another teahouse with a secret garden in Brussels, Belgium. ah….

drank Smoked Maple Banana by Butiki Teas
2291 tasting notes

I pulled this out to share this morning, and almost re-thought sharing! I really like this tea, and it went so well with my banana bread.

All I added was a bit of milk, and it’s nice and smooth, a little smoky flavour lingers, but there’s lots of sweetness from the banana. I can taste maple, but I don’t think it’s contributing sweetness as much as the banana.

I stuck the leaves in the fridge before I left, so I have resteeps to look forward to tonight! Yay. :)

(I’m not sure how long I steeped this for, I had some issues with my timer this morning… totally user error. :D )

This has gone well with my morning banana bread (thanks for the recipe, Anna!).

Strong, nutmeg, creamy (because of course I put milk in it), delicious.

I’m not fully awake yet, so that’s all you’re getting.

drank Raspberry Balsamico by Teavana

I actually have ended up doing another tea soda “my” way, and I like it a lot!

1 tbsp this, 1 tbsp limeade twist, 1/2 cup water, 5 tsp sugar.

Two tbsp concentrate in a 2-cup mason jar with ice and club soda.

Still a little on the sweet side for me, but SO GOOD. If you like things sweeter, use 1/4 cup of water. :)

Next time I think I’d do 1/2 soda and 1/2 water, just to cut down on the “club soda” flavour.

Dexter got this random green “should be a tieguanyin” oolong from somewhere and kindly passed it on to me! Yay!

http://instagram.com/p/y8xrPuR5BR/

It’s really pretty. It smells SO good dry! Nice and green, very floral.

http://instagram.com/p/y8xx7kx5BV/

Steeped, it’s lilacs and lilies. Soooo floral. Really sweet and delicate, yet the flavours are strong. Although I can’t pick these teas apart, I do like them. I’d say this one is pretty darn good! The leaves are pretty, it’s the barest minimum of bitter as it cools, just enough to remind me it’s tea. I can’t drink a lot of these, as the floral just gets to be too much. But I really like these green floral oolongs!

Thanks so much for sharing, Dexter! I have a couple more rounds with this one, and I’ll enjoy them.

Rinsed once, let rest 5 minutes. Steeped 1:00,1:00, 1:30.
