97 Tasting Notes
This stuff is absolutely divine. But this is coming from somebody who drank coffee before she drank tea. I now prefer the latter over the former but that’s not what this review is about – I’m pretty sure Davids has concocted some sort of incredible voodoo magic that has married these perfectly together. This is everything coffee should be. It’s so buttery and nutty, with just a touch of that sharp bitterness that coffee naturally has. I can detect very faint hints of cocoa in there somewhere.
Best way I could describe this? Coffee Crisp in liquid form. (And let me tell you, this is a wonderful thing in itself.)
Preparation
Pu’erh is said to speed up your metabolism, so it’s I guess just safe to say not to drink it before bedtime. Plus the addition of the coffee beans…I think it’s giving me a little bit of a jolt. :P
Blacks seem to affect me caffeine-wise, however I can (usually) have a pu-erh at night and be just peachy still for sleep. This one however does have coffee beans in it as well… their Chocolate Orange (pu-erh) is also very tasty.
What a day yesterday, I’m still exhausted! Had such an amazing time though.
I wasn’t so sure about this one, but went ahead and dived right in. Very fruity, I can definitely taste the cranberry especially in the aftertaste. The acidity of the pear however hits you dead on, giving you a spark of tartness as soon as you sip. I’m not crazy about the whole sourish taste I’m getting out of all of this, but it’s not overbearing so I can tolerate it.
I probably won’t be repurchasing this one any time soon. But I’ll finish my sample happily whenever I feel like something a little less decadent and a little more sour and fruity.
Preparation
Quick cuppa to get me going before I have to leave. I’m doing a lot recently and it’s wearing me out, but I love spending time with the people I love. :) Helps me through depression as well.
This is a LOT better the second time around. Tastes almost like chocolate almonds with a hint of spice. Super strong and robust. Mmm. Almost smokey.
Preparation
Let me first start off by saying I never once thought I’d be able to try this tea, nevermind any tea from 52 Teas. Not for a long while, anyways. I have been DYING to try Frank’s creations.
So you should have seen how excited I was when I received this as part of the very generous batch of samples VariaTEA sent to me. ♥ I was ecstatic! Thank you so much!
I had no idea what tea to start off with today, so I asked my mom – a non-tea drinker – to go through my tea drawer and pick out one for me. She grabbed this one and couldn’t stop smelling it. It really does smell exactly like a delicious coconut cream pie.
But unfortunately, I’m finding the taste isn’t quite living up to the smell. I can taste the faint sweetness of the coconut, but I’m getting an almost papery aftertaste. Like eating construction paper. :( I don’t know why. Maybe it’s because of something I ate beforehand. Maybe my taste buds are out of whack this morning. Who knows? I still have a bit of sample left to try it again at a later date.
5 minutes later: I’m starting to taste even more of the coconut and creaminess, and it’s becoming 10x more delicious. I think it was because of what I had beforehand. Rating is bumped up!
Preparation
I am so glad you liked this! And I will have to keep in mind your desire to try Frank’s blends in case I decide to send another package in the future :)
Honestly though, reactions like this is why I love sharing tea. Your happiness put a smile on my face.
Thank you and you are definitely welcome. Everyone on steepster has been so generous to me that I am happy to spread the love.
When I finally get my life back on track, I plan to do the same. :) Gotta pay it forward somehow! I adore this site and everybody on it.
Received as a free sample as part of my order from Della Terra Teas. You guys are just awesome. :) I wanted to try this one!
Oh, wow. This is very sweet and carroty. The other reviews I’ve read are right – I can taste the cream cheese frosting! It is literally almost like biting into a carrot cake. A little spicy, a little zesty with a creamy sweet aftertaste. Words cannot describe what I’m feeling right now. This is amazing and something I’ll definitely be ordering one day.
I haven’t been feeling too great today…very queasy and tired and achy. :( Maybe I wore myself out today. I made this tea because I didn’t want something chocolatey and rich to potentially upset my stomach even more after everything today. So far, I’m really happy with my choice!
Preparation
Sounds like one I need to put on my shopping list for when I order from them again. Hopefully I can talk myself into a sampler next time.
Because my grandmother is a real sweetheart, she took me to Davids today and bought me this as a cup to go as well as 3 teas that I found at this particular location that I thought were discontinued.
I thought, maybe since this was made for me in the store, it might be better tasting this time around?
The final verdict? I actually liked it better when I had made it at home. Despite the amount of leaf they used, it had barely any flavour. Or heck, even creaminess. Like hot water with a faint vanilla afterthought. At least the first time I had this, it was creamy!
Couldn’t even bother to resteep this. I ended up ditching it for a Tim Hortons coffee. So disappointing. :( Rating lowered.
Preparation
After seeing the reviews on this tea, I’m actually pretty surprised how much I like it. It is absolutely delicious with sweetener – black tea with a delicious sweet strawberry taste. Is it like biting into a big red juicy strawberry in the summertime? Eh, no. More like a Special K Red Berries strawberry taste – floral and slightly chemical. Which I’m fine with. And considering the reviews I’ve been reading, a lot better than I expected!
I wish there was more of a strawberry taste, though. It IS a little faint.
Preparation
Holy crap is this good. Rich chocolatey flavour, with a little tiny bit of spice. Tastes just like a zesty hot chocolate without the thickness of a hot chocolate. Exactly what I’ve been craving.
I seriously think I might have to buy a tin. I just wish I could afford it.
Edit: Scratch that. Dairy reaction….ughhh stomach hurts. I’ll still be finishing this one off eventually though, because I like it. A lot. :( Why does my body not seem to like anything I really like?
Preparation
I was going to say it’s amazing as a latte and then I kept reading and I definitely don’t think that would be a good choice for you given your affliction to dairy. I hope you feel alright soon!
Yogurt is a huge no-no for me, unfortunately I can’t have it. :( Sauerkraut though I absolutely love, so I’ll try that. Thanks!
This is surprisingly the only tea with dairy so far that I’ve had that’s afflicted my intolerance! Being severe I’m astonished that I was able to drink what I’ve been drinking and not have a reaction, but I’m guessing the amounts are so itty bitty small that it’s not enough to trigger anything.
But thank you VariaTEA, I’ve had to run to the washroom a few times but other than that I feel fine now and back to my old self. :)
Glad to hear you are feeling better now. I have a sensitivity to lactose (obviously no where near what you have) so I can understand the reaction one gets and I know it’s unpleasant.
I think everybody does to a degree, dairy never used to have much of an effect on me at all but since I’ve abused my body so much – especially over the past few years – I’ve developed a wild array of internal issues…gastrointestinal and otherwise. :( Sucks but eh, life goes on. :) I’m just so glad I have tea in my life now.
Haha, There should be a tab for criminal teas on tea websites, it would make our choices so much easier, lol!
Interesting, I didn’t like this tea:(
I’m fairly sure that if and when I inevitably run out of this leaf, I will fall to my knees and sob.
We can’t have that, no indeed.
It’s gonna happen eventually. :( I can feel it.
