drank Chocolate Chili Chai by DAVIDsTEA

Like many people who reviewed this tea as well, I also thought I’d be hit in the face with chili…seems much the opposite is true. This tastes more like just a chocolate tea. I’m getting a very very slight chili taste, but nothing spectacular…that’s not to say it’s not a good tea. I like it. It doesn’t quite live up to it’s name, but I’ll drink it when I feel like chocolate.

When I’m looking for a serious chocolate fix though, I’d probably pick another tea first.

Oh my, is this ever lovely! So deliciously creamy and the vanilla isn’t fake or cloying. The bergamot gives it a delicious musky taste, unlike others I’ve had before. It ties together very beautifully.

I can see myself getting sick of the taste though, so I’ll be having this one sparingly. This is a very rich tea and one you definitely have to be in the mood in to have.

Did a second steep for my daddy – he came home from work and I found out he absolutely adores Earl Grey. He loved it!!
I love my dad so much and I’m so excited to share my passion for tea with him!

Decided to go for a go-to favourite, and wanted something chocolatey. Chocolate Orange it is! Oh yum. As always, tastes just like a delicious Terry’s Chocolate Orange.

Not a disappointed customer here.

So picking this up now, I almost did during my last trip to Davids.

It’s wonderful, you’ll love it!

I got this tea from the lovely Missb who sent me a very generous sample! Thank you so much :) You are awesome!!

As the tea cools down, I’m starting to be able to taste the mango more. It’s very fruity and er…mangoy, obviously. Which is awesome, because mango is amazing! Makes me crave a real one, actually. :P I do wish there was a little bit more of a stronger mango taste, but next time I brew I’ll add more leaf and see if it makes a difference.

Lovely!

Did you want to do a swap for Ruby Pie?

Yvonne

I wish I could, but I have no money for postage at the moment. :( No income and not employed.

Courtney

I totally don’t mind to send a cup or two worth :)

Yvonne

Really? Aww, you are so nice! Thank you so much :D

drank Cocoberry by DAVIDsTEA

Something about this tea just seems so…jumbled. Like they stuck whatever they could find in here and packaged it up. :/ I’m getting a lot of sweetness from the berries and very little coffee.

The aftertaste is musky – reminds me a bit of an old basement. I can’t really tell what this tea is trying to be – is it trying to be fruity, or is it trying to be a coffee substitute? Both? Really?

I think I’ll be able to do the rest of the cup, but I don’t know if I’m really going to want more afterwards.

Edit: There’s a huge gross lump of black stuff at the bottom of my cup. Ergh.

I think it’s trying to be both, and it’s so odd. I have a 25g bag that I will enjoy (when I’m in the mood for it), but never worry about replacing!

Yvonne

Definitely not a repurchase for me either, no wonder it was discontinued.

Dustin

David’s description of the tea sounds sort of jumbled too!

Ana

I tried this once in the store, I personally called it the hot mess.

Teavana! Where are my big beautiful oolong leaves?

You can tell the first time I had this I hadn’t had much experience with oolongs – because this was disappointing and not at all what I was expecting. I now expect an oolong tea to be creamy and milky, and something I’d want to resteep again and again. This fell flat. There was no milky. No creamy to be found. At first taste, there was nothing…then there was a little bit of a nice nutty flavour and sweetness in the aftertaste. That’s it. Nice, but underwhelming. :(

After having something as concentrated as DT’s Brazillionaire (which if you love nuts you should try, because, well…nuts) this tea kinda tastes like nothing special.

And I really wish Teavana would start putting in more leaves and less tisane, please.

One of the two Teavana types that I consumed yesterday, I wondered if there was any actual tea in it. I felt like I was brewing a bag of trail mix.

Yvonne

I know! I kept peering into my bag wondering where the leaves are…a bag of overpriced trail mix is quite an apt description!

Abby Noelle

Lol at “overpriced trail mix”

This wonderful sample comes my way of the lovely VariaTEA. Thank you so much! ♥

This is just….wow. I’m blown away, to be honest. This is absolutely delicious! Reminds me a LOT of my favourite tea of all time, Choconut Oolong by DT. I find the latter to be slightly more chocolatey and reminiscent of Nutella – maybe the licorice enhances it, which doesn’t seem to be found here – but this comes pretty darn close. This is a near perfect balance of rich chocolate and hazelnut, nothing more and nothing less. And it works wonderfully.

You should also thank Cavocorax since she sent me such a large sample in a swap that I had enough to share. Unfortunately it was not for me though so I am glad you liked it.

Yvonne

Ah, then thank you as well to Cavocorax for making this possible! :)

I’m actually going to be quite sad when I sipdown the sample you’ve given me, as I won’t be able to buy it anywhere afterwards. It was that delicious! I’ll enjoy every single last drop though – thank you for giving me this opportunity :)

You should also thank Cavocorax as she sent me such a large sample to begin with that I had enough to share. Unfortunately, this was not for me so I am glad you are enjoying it.

drank Long Life Oolong by DAVIDsTEA

Made some homemade chocolate peanut butter cookies for my parents today. They’ll be home soon and they’re ice cold in the fridge – just like how my mom likes ‘em. I hope she enjoys them! She doesn’t get things like this too often anymore, and she deserves it.

While my parents sit and enjoy some cookies, I’m going to enjoy this peachy peachy oolong. Mmmm. I like peaches. I (generally) really like oolongs. Match made in heaven, yes? Pretty much. The taste I’m getting from this is probably what peach milk would be reminiscent of, if such a thing exists. It’s creamy and fruity and everything I’d expect in a peach oolong.

I don’t know if I’d crave this on a regular basis, but I do really like it. Well done, Davids.

drank Brazillionaire by DAVIDsTEA

My tummy is giving me troubles right now :( Woke up from my little nap with the worst cramping ever. But I get stomach issues every day much like this, so I’m rather used to it – doesn’t mean it’s enjoyable though.

My first impressions: holy tisane Batman! The Brazil nuts and coconut pieces in this mix are HUGE. I tried to get a little of everything in my infuser but it was difficult to gauge how much I was putting in. In the end I think I might have actually overleafed, which means I’m gonna have to resteep it again after or I’ll feel wasteful. Meh. Oh well.

As for the taste….oh my god.

Delicious nuts in my mouth.

And yes, any innuendo taken from that last sentence was totally purposeful and necessary.

Every sip is like drinking a mouthful of nuts.

Oh god. More innuendo. I’m sorry.

Liquid nuts.

I think I’ll stop here.

Love it!! I need to try this next time I’m at a DT. I need me a mouthful of nuts, I think. ha!

If you like nuts, especially in your mouth, you’ll love this tea! ;)
^ New slogan right there. DavidsTea, you might wanna hire me on your marketing division.

Nothing better than nuts in my mouth. I need to try this tea asap!

Mmmm. Shopping list!

I’d love to be able to share with you guys, but I have a very small amount and don’t have money for postage. :( I really hope you guys get to try this one – it’s very good!

Felt like something super sweet and mapley this morning, without the caffeine as I wanted to be able to go back to sleep after. It was between this and Gingerbread and seeing how what I have of Gingerbread is probably all I’ll ever have of it, I went with this.

I think I may have underleafed it (oops) because it wasn’t as flavourful as it was before. To try and make up for this, I steeped it longer…I think it helped a little. As always, it tastes like liquid maple syrup with a little bit of butteryness. Truly a delicious tea if you like sweet.

Profile

Bio

My name is Yvonne. I’m 21 and live in a snowy Canadian wasteland known as Manitoba.

I’m relatively new to the loose tea world, although I used to drink generic Red Rose tea constantly. A friend introduced me to a Teavana tea one chilly winter and I got myself slightly intrigued. Went to purchase it myself, used shoddy equipment to prepare it, and was discouraged.

Christmas 2013 rolled around, and despite having an awful holiday for other reasons, I received some of Teavana’s Cha Yen Thai as a gift after asking for chai tea. I went out and bought a proper infuser cup and was instantly hooked. Now my tea collection is steadily growing! I’m obsessed!

I like:
Dessert teas, black teas, oolong, rooibos, pu’erh, mate, chai, chamomile, chocolate, coconut, cinnamon, pineapple, tropical mixes, nutty, sweet, complex flavours, indulgent flavours

I do NOT like:
Green teas, herbal teas, white teas, teas too overbearing with fruit, pure tisane, cloyingly sweet teas, hibiscus, peanuts, burning my mouth

I am lactose intolerant (pretty severely, actually – I do not consume any dairy product) but I find that the miniscule amounts of dairy found in some teas don’t bother me for the most part.

100 – My absolute favourite teas. Without them, I will cry salty tears of despair.

99 – 95 – Cream of the crop, although missing SOMETHING to make them a perfect favourite. Not something I couldn’t possibly live without, but pretty darn close. Lots of teas in this category tend to reach 100 eventually.

95 – 75 – Yummy, but if it disappeared tomorrow I’d quietly mourn it for about 15 minutes and move on to a favourite. Leaves something to be desired.

75 – 50 – Passable, but not by much. Something I’d really have to be in the mood for to drink.

50 and lower – Nope nope nope. Not for me. Probably couldn’t or had a hard time finishing the cuppa. Doooown the sink.
