drank Black Mao Feng by TeaSource

I had the opportunity to sample this in-store over the weekend and immediately purchased two ounces. This is one of the best straight black teas I’ve ever had! The leaves are large and twisty with lots of golden tips. It steeps up to a beautiful red-gold color with a malty aroma and tastes full-bodied and rich with an almost caramel sweetness to the aftertaste. It’s so good that my friend who ALWAYS sweetens her tea drank it straight!

Flavors: Caramel, Cocoa, Malt

Preparation
205 °F / 96 °C 4 min, 0 sec 1 tsp 8 OZ / 236 ML

Mmm… I haven’t tried anything from TeaSource yet. This probably should go on my wishlist.

Not My Cup O’ Tea TTB

I didn’t expect to like this one, as I don’t typically enjoy smoky teas. However, the smoke in this one is very light and somehow seems to balance out the spicy sweetness of the cinnamon. I don’t really taste anything bread-like in this blend, but the flavors work together perfectly and I’m actually really enjoying it!

Flavors: Cinnamon, Smoke, Spicy, Sweet

Preparation
205 °F / 96 °C 2 min, 30 sec 1 tsp 8 OZ / 236 ML

Not My Cup O’ Tea TTB

I’m not a huge fan of straight green tea, but I’ve loved almost every Butiki tea I’ve ever sampled, so I had to give this one a try. I was pleasantly surprised by the flavor: nutty and buttery with just a hint of grass in the aftertaste. This isn’t something I feel I need in my collection, but I’m glad for the chance to have tried it!

Flavors: Butter, Grass, Nutty

Preparation
205 °F / 96 °C 2 min, 30 sec 1 tsp 8 OZ / 236 ML

Not My Cup O’ Tea TTB

I was so excited to find some new-to-me Butiki teas in this TTB! This one makes a great breakfast tea: strong and malty with a rich, chocolatey flavor. Also good for multiple re-steeps, which makes me really happy since I won’t be able to re-purchase.

Flavors: Chocolate, Malt

Preparation
205 °F / 96 °C 4 min, 0 sec 1 tsp 8 OZ / 236 ML

A nice bright, refreshing lime tea. Not really picking up on the tequila, but it’s good anyway. I enjoyed it hot but I’m guessing it will be even better iced!

Not My Cup O’ Tea TTB

This is a nice, basic black tea blend. I found it to be smooth but flavorful and aromatic with notes of baked bread, honey, and stonefruits. Whoever placed this in the box included a note recommending a 3-minute steep instead of the 4-5 minutes prescribed on the bag and I agree…it was definitely strong enough after 3 minutes!

Flavors: Bread, Honey, Stonefruit

Preparation
205 °F / 96 °C 3 min, 0 sec 1 tsp 8 OZ / 236 ML

drank Not So Vanilla by Tippy's Tea

Not My Cup O’ Tea TTB

I’ve seen Tippy’s Tea quite a bit around Steepster, but this was my first opportunity to sample one of their blends. I have to say, I’m impressed! This is quite possibly the best vanilla tea I have ever tried. The base tea is a lovely chocolatey golden-tipped black that mingles perfectly with the rich vanilla flavor to create a truly decadent treat. I would definitely consider purchasing this one in the future!

Flavors: Chocolate, Vanilla

205 °F / 96 °C 4 min, 0 sec 1 tsp 8 OZ / 236 ML

drank Coconut Peppermint Pie by 52teas

I didn’t taste the coconut or the pie in this; just lots of smooth, creamy peppermint. I thought it was good, but not outstanding in any way.

drank Jardin Sauvage by Lupicia

Not My Cup O’ Tea TTB

Mmm, this is lovely! Lupicia really seems to nail their fruity flavors. This one is sweet, luscious mango with just a hint of zippy citrus to keep it from being too cloying. I enjoyed it hot, but I’m guessing it would also be amazing iced. Excited to be adding this to my tea collection for the summer!

Flavors: Citrus, Fruity, Mango

Not My Cup O’ Tea TTB

I’ve been on the lookout for more herbal teas, so I was excited to find this one in the TTB. Unfortunately, Adagio’s chocolate flavoring is just not for me; too sweet and artificial. I finished my cup, but I wouldn’t drink this again.

Flavors: Artificial, Chocolate

Preparation
Boiling 4 min, 0 sec 1 tsp 8 OZ / 236 ML

Bio

“You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me.” ~ C.S. Lewis

I was introduced to loose leaf tea by a roommate in 2012, but it wasn’t until I stumbled upon Steepster in 2014 that I discovered a world of tea that went beyond Teavana and the grocery store.

My tastes continue to evolve, but black tea is currently my favorite. I am especially drawn to strong, malty breakfast blends to wake me up in the morning and flavored dessert teas to sip throughout the day.

Just about everything in my cupboard is available to swap, so feel free to ask!
