Chocolate-flavored teas tend to be hit and miss for me, but this one is quite nice! The toasted rice adds a nice dimension to the chocolate flavor and keeps it from being thin and flat. I’m not really getting much marshmallow, but still enjoying the combination of rice and chocolate. Not a standout, but I’d drink it again.

Flavors: Chocolate, Rice

I don’t think I’ve ever tried a “purple” oolong before and since purple is my favorite color, I just had to give this one a go! It’s definitely a deeper flavor than most oolongs I’ve tried in the past: rich and nutty with hints of chocolate and smoke. There’s a lingering buttery aftertaste that I’m enjoying as well. Quite lovely, actually!

Flavors: Butter, Chocolate, Nutty, Smoke, Smooth

Preparation

I’d say it’s one of the stranger things in my collection, and probably one of those things that isn’t for everyone, but I figured that is why I should put some in the teabox. I’m sort of fond of that deeply roasty and nutty sort of flavor myself. And I wasn’t even aware there were oolongs out of Indonesia, heh.

I usually love golden tip black teas, so I had to give this one a try. Sadly, it seems to be lacking the sweetness I usually associate with this type of tea. Instead, I found it to be quite bitter and astringent. A splash of milk smoothed it out nicely, though!

Flavors: Astringent, Bitter

Boiling 3 min, 0 sec 1 tsp 12 OZ / 354 ML

Pretty sure this is another old sample, as the caramel flavor has almost completely faded. It just tastes like a rather bland, smooth black tea. Not leaving a rating, since I’m pretty sure the flavorlessness is due to age and not a poor blend.

Flavors: Smooth

Man, 52Teas just nails their raspberry flavor! This tea is sweet and fruity and jammy…tastes like I stirred a spoonful of raspberry jam into my cup. The creaminess isn’t really coming through for me, but I don’t mind. A great tea to start my day with!

Peppercorns in a butterscotch tea? I had to try this one just because I was so intrigued by the appearance of the dry leaf! It had a sweet butterscotch aroma when brewed, but the flavor was mostly the white tea base (which I don’t mind at all, since I love white tea!) with subtle hints of butterscotch, cinnamon, and pepper. Kind of an odd combination, but somehow it works pretty well! I don’t think this is something I’d reach for often, but I’m glad to have sampled it.

Flavors: Butterscotch, Cinnamon, Hay, Peppercorn

Preparation
180 °F / 82 °C 2 min, 30 sec 1 tsp 12 OZ / 354 ML

I received an early Christmas gift in the mail yesterday: the black tea gift set from Tea Chai Te! I’ve been wanting to try their “Mount Hood Vanilla” blend for ages and I’m so excited to finally own it, along with several others. This is the one tea in the gift set that I wasn’t quite sure about and sadly it isn’t for me. The description is accurate…this is like drinking melted red hots! Way too much cinnamon for me. I’m sure there’s someone out there who loves cinnamon and will adore this tea, so I’ll be popping it in the Discovery TTB for someone else to enjoy. :)

Flavors: Cinnamon, Spicy

I love Tea Chai Te! Their Spiced Vanilla Chai (which uses the Mount Hood Vanilla as its base) is one of my favorite teas, ever!

Oh boy, another one to add to my wish list!

This blend has a delightful caramel aroma! The flavor is on the light side…smooth, slightly sweet caramel with just a hint of spice. I didn’t really pick up on any pumpkin. Overall, a pleasant cup of tea but nothing special.

I finished off the last little bit of this one and sadly I wasn’t impressed. I didn’t get a specific strawberry flavor…more of a vague, artificially fruity flavor with an unpleasantly sour aftertaste. Maybe it was the age of the sample? Not going to rate this because I’m not sure I had it at its best.

Flavors: Artificial, Fruity, Sour

Preparation
Boiling 8 min or more 1 tsp 12 OZ / 354 ML

Yeah, this one is pretty old – from 2013.

That would explain it! :)

Wow, another tea with cinnamon in it that I actually like! Despite “cinnamon” being in the name, the flavor is actually more like a blueberry muffin: sweet and fruity with just a hint of spice. And surprisingly, there’s no unpleasant stevia aftertaste either. There was only about a teaspoon and a half left in the bag, so I finished it off…sad, because I’d love to have this one in my collection!

Flavors: Blueberry, Bread, Sweet

I think I included this one for you as it was on your wish list. I’m glad you liked it. :D

Aww, that was so kind of you! Thanks.

“You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me.” ~ C.S. Lewis

I was introduced to loose leaf tea by a roommate in 2012, but it wasn’t until I stumbled upon Steepster in 2014 that I discovered a world of tea that went beyond Teavana and the grocery store.

My tastes continue to evolve, but black tea is currently my favorite. I am especially drawn to strong, malty breakfast blends to wake me up in the morning and flavored dessert teas to sip throughout the day.

Just about everything in my cupboard is available to swap, so feel free to ask!
