From Simpson & Vail

This new dessert tea is a winner! When you open the bag you’re greeted with a heavenly fruity and baked goodness aroma. When brewed this herbal blend has a reddish cup and a sweet, blueberry fruit and cake taste with slight accents of spice. Sugar-free and caffeine free this deliciously smooth dessert tea can be enjoyed any time of the day or night.

Ingredients: Organic Green Rooibos, currants, beetroot, organic cinnamon, sweet blackberry leaves, blueberry cinnamon crumble flavoring, organic lemongrass and malva flowers.

Advent Day 10

This reminds me quite a lot of Forever Nuts from DT. It has a similar pink hue, but the flavor is also vaguely similar. Cinnamon, cakey, candy fruit I guess.

Simpson & Vail Advent Calendar: Day 10

Murchie’s Blueberry Crumble (which is a mix of green and black teas) is one of my favorite über-desserty blends, so I was excited to try this one — I wouldn’t say no to a caffeine-free take on that flavor profile!

It smells really lovely! Tastewise, I think it’s more “generic juicy berry” than blueberry, although I do get some jammy blueberry on the back of the sip. I like that the cinnamon is relatively prominent, and I do get some fun oat-y, pastry-ish vibes. But I don’t love the slippery-sweetness from the blackberry leaves! It’s juuuust on the edge of being cloyingly sweet for me.

I actually think this is more blueberry muffin than blueberry crumble… it needs a rich and buttery element to really evoke a crumble!

Backlog and Sip Down

Imagine the most blueberry thing in your life and turn it into a tea! It took me no time to drink the 4oz bag. In fact, it is taking a lot for me to hold off from purchasing 8-16oz of this tea! I brewed it iced for friends and they absolutely loved it, too. The cup offered notes of very fresh and sugary sweet blueberries, vanilla, and doughy pie crust. Yum! If I don’t acquire this on my own soon, I’ll make sure to have it added to my Christmas wish list ; )

Simpson & Vail is so underrated IMO. Just ordered their advent calendar the other day! :D

ashmanra

Nooooo, don’t make me want it!

MadHatterTeaReview

Cameron B. – they truly are! I absolutely haven’t had anything I’ve disliked, yet.

Ashmanra – I’m not here to stop anyone from their impulse to acquire more tea ;)

I agree that S&V is very underrated! I will be looking to see if they have a sale this week, as I am nearly out of so many of my favorite teas…

In my insomnia induced manic cleaning fit tonight/this morning I’ve been speed drinking my flat teas from my cupboard because if I’m going to recommend them in a series this fall over on instagram, why not try and rate them first lol. Just an excuse to binge new teas before storing them away for a few months.

On to the tea:

This is one of the best rooibos and best blueberry blends that I have ever had. It is definitely blueberry forward with a touch of cakey-ness that is delightful for a night time cuppa. Its got a touch of cinnamon but it’s definitely not spiced or cinnamon forward. It tastes just like blueberry crumble with the yummy brown sugar cinnamon crumb. A definite new favorite!

Kiki:

“It’s really good, I think I really like it, let’s get back to the show! Fruity, floral, very satisfying, thirst-quenching, berrylike, thank you very much whoever sent it. hahahaha! OK? hahahaha! It’s an 8!”

we’re watching the newest episode of Big Sky

derk:

This is like Simpson & Vail’s Carrot Cake Cupcake blend but with jammy blueberry. It has the same powdered sugar-cream cheese frosting vibe to me, like churros with vanilla frosting. Very sweet, mellow cinnamon. I think I taste a kind of crumble note, that oaty-pastry flavor. It’s pretty good and as Kiki says, thirst-quenching. I think the berry-currant tartness and green rooibos base play that role.

The verbatim Kiki quotes never get old. :D

What, no burps this time? XD

Mastress Alita

My tea-drinking has become noticably more burpy since I started carbonating my cold brews, hahaha!

Dustin

Oooooooo, are you using a sodastream to carbonate, Mastress Alita? I’ve noticed such a change in flavors when carbonation is added to tea!

Mastress Alita

A Drinkmate, but basically same thing, different brand!

Discovery Advent Tea #5
Whatever this was supposed to be I missed the mark. I did not like this. It tasted medicinal, like drinking how a hospital smells. Sorry not for me

Continuing to work on teas from the Discovery Teabox (thanks to Skysamurai for coordinating and all who contributed!), I brewed this up to have with my mandarin for breakfast this morning. I only took a 3g sample from the box, and I normally use more leaf with herbals (especially fine rooibos/honeybush), so to compensate I dropped my water from a 12 oz. cup to an 8 oz. cup, and hopefully that will balance things out. If it doesn’t, well, that was just me being stingy and trying to not take much leaf from the box, I guess.

The aroma is very pleasant, though! It definitely has a pungent scent of blueberries and cinnamon, and a sweetness that makes me think of something warm and gooey and pastry-like. The blueberry isn’t as strong on the tongue as it is on the nose (or maybe I’m just too spoiled by how juicy 52Tea’s blueberry comes off), but it is definitely present. The cinnamon is a bit of a stronger note than the fruit but not overwhelming, and is very sweet; it tastes like a cinnamon-sugar toast spread to me. The base is sweet, and while some rooibos waxes more woody or medicinal (I especially get medicinal notes often when its paired with fruit flavors, ala cough syrup), I am not getting that in this tea at all… I’m picking up more on notes of honey and vanilla.

This is a really nice tea! Maybe not quite as good as the Apple Cinnamon French Toast, but close!

Thanks for the share, tea_sipper!

I’m glad you liked this! I agree – not as good as Apple Cinnamon French Toast, but I don’t think many teas can be better than that anyway. :D

Discovery TTB #7

Wow, another tea with cinnamon in it that I actually like! Despite “cinnamon” being in the name, the flavor is actually more like a blueberry muffin: sweet and fruity with just a hint of spice. And surprisingly, there’s no unpleasant stevia aftertaste either. There was only about a teaspoon and a half left in the bag, so I finished it off…sad, because I’d love to have this one in my collection!

Wow this is even better than I expected. It smells like blueberry muffins and tastes like them too! The cinammon definitely makes it taste like baked goods. I do add sugar, but honestly it tastes as satisfying as eating a dessert. Simpson & Vail are magical with their dessert flavors.

Advent Calendar 2024 – Day 10

Interesting, S&V breaking their alternating teas and tisane pattern today! Also, two dessert green rooibos blends in a row?

But this is another one I haven’t had in a bit, so yay! My cup actually came out somewhat weak, even though I used the same amount of water as yesterday’s. Still tasty though! Jammy dark berry (not specifically blueberry to me) with sweet cinnamon and a bit of an oaty note. I don’t really get the buttery aspect of the crumble, so to me this is more like a blueberry jam or syrup laced with cinnamon. But maybe I’m missing the pastry aspect, since the taste is a bit watery.

These dessert teas are making me want to place an order, heh! Maybe sometime next year… :P
