1040 Tasting Notes
I put some dim sum on to steam for dinner tonight, and was choosing a tea to go with it. I don’t have a lot of straight green teas, was looking for something greenish to go with it. I decided to go with this. I think that was a mistake. Not that the tea didn’t go, or I seemed to enjoy it all together, but between the sweet chili sauce, sriracha, and goyza, I can’t really tell you what it tastes like. I think I burned my taste buds with the sweet, hot, salty of the sauces.
I think this tea probably deserves better than I treated it tonight. Will reserve judgement until I can give it a fair tasting.
I’ll admit it, I don’t drink much white tea. I don’t think you get the bang for your buck. It’s usually pretty pricy and not much flavor. At least that’s what I used to think…….I really need to explore a tea before making general assumption based on one or two examples.
I LOVE this. This was exactly what I needed tonight. It’s light and refreshing, and is just oooooozes with peachy goodness. I was worried about peach not coming through in a tea. This is PEACH, no doubt about it. No fake candy, just sweet juicy peaches. Two thumbs up!!
Thank you scribbles for so generously including a sample (BIG SAMPLE) of this in my swap box. :))))
I have this??!!! Need to visit ‘you know you are addicted….’ If you don’t even know you have said tea’s… :D
LOL you sent it to me so you either:
A> have some.
B> sent out the last of it without trying it yourself (I’ve done that, guess we both need to visit the … you know you’re addicted thread).
Another Mandala Pu’erh that I really adore. This is an awesome tea, but it’s different than the others that I’ve tried.
This tea is more practical. This could be my everyday go to pu’erh. Don’t get me wrong, it’s awesome, but I don’t think it’s as complex as Noble Mark. Noble Mark is a “special occasion” type tea. You need to have time to enjoy the many steeps and changes that occur during those various steeps. This is more of a “I don’t want to fuss with it, I just want a good cup of pu’erh” type tea. I don’t always want to spend all day savoring one tea. Sometimes you just want a cup or two to enjoy. This one would be great on those occasions. I love them both, but love them for different reasons.
This one smelled a bit fishy to me during the rinse, but that was GONE with the first steep. It’s bold and earthy, without being offensive. I drank 4 8 oz cups of this and enjoyed all of them, but didn’t find that the flavor changed that much from steep to steep.
This could definitely find a permanent place in my cupboard for those days when I just want a quick, good cup of tea.
I’m confused. I know it doesn’t take much some days. This tea is listed as an oolong. It says oolong on the package, and then in description it says “This beautiful Sumatran black tea…” Is it an oolong or is it a black? I’ve seen other companies list something they call “black pearl” as black tea, but would that be something different than this? It hurts my poor newbie head. I’ve been drinking oolongs, I like oolong. I’ve been searching for my PERFECT oolong. This is getting close…..should I be looking for my perfect oolong under black tea? I haven’t really explored straight blacks too much. Only so much time, money and cupboard space – can’t try everything all at once.
I think this tastes like an oolong, but it’s darker and richer than any I’ve tried yet. It’s a little astringent (which I think is a black characteristic), but not too bad. I really like it.
I’ve been hot or miss with Tealux’s fruit tisanes. I was looking for something to cold steep last night and picked up this one. I opened the package and was assaulted by the spiciness of this – in your face cinnamon and clove. I put the whole sample size package in the pitcher, filled with cold water, and hoped for the best.
This is very similar to Davids Kanpe. I LOVE Kanpe, and this is like that but with a kick. This has more spice, less tart. Cherry is the 7th fruit listed in the ingredients, but I feel that’s the predominant flavor. I think I might have “over leafed” this a bit. I’ve poured the tea off and put some more water on the “leaves” will add the two steeps together to see if that backs the spices down a bit. If I hadn’t tried Kanpe, I would really like this, but it’s not as good as Davids version. IMHO.
I seem to be disagreeing with the majority here. I really like this. I don’t always get a lot of fruit flavor from flavored blacks. This one is really fruity. I get mostly berry, but there is some citrus in the background. Yep, this works for me. I’m going to hot steep and then cool the next cup and see how it is cold, but hot, it gets a thumbs up.
Thanks scribbles for sending me this sample, really like it.
everyone’s palate is unique. this one didn’t work for me, but it must for some else it wouldn’t be available. yay scribbles!
Hmmmmmmm weird, I’ve decided that I don’t like ginger tea. Why is that? I’m a huge ginger fan in food. I adore gingerbread and ginger snap cookies. I didn’t do well with the Fusion Tea ginger cookie, and I’m not doing well with this either. Not sure I will finish the cup, not doing well. I’m not even sure what it is, but ewwwwwwwwww is pretty much all I have to say.
Sorry JackieT, I really do appreciate you sending me this sample, and it really sounded like something I should like. It’s just not to be. At least I learned that I don’t like ginger.
S’mores Genmaicha. What should that taste like? I get the chocolate, I get the marshmallow, I get the toasty genmaicha, but I don’t think it adds up to s’mores. I don’t get anything that would even remotely be considered graham cracker. I really wish there was some of the smokey goodness that was in the maple bacon. In my world you burn marshmallows over a fire to make s’mores, this should have some of that smokiness to it. I’m having a hard time with the green tea too. I’m being harsh on this. It’s really not that bad, but not all that I had hoped for.
Thanks JackieT for this sample.
