286 Tasting Notes
I got this from Lala a long time ago – so sorry it’s taken me so long to get to it , and I actually finished it off yesterday, but I was too exhausted (think i’m catching a cold) to write a note on it, and went to bed really early.
So I remember really liking it quite a lot, and wished I read tasting notes about trying to re-steep this one, since I sweetened the first batch a little too much. It was still really good, but a little candy-like, but again, probably because of too much sweetener.
I really noticed the blackberry, which I really appreciated since I love blackberries a lot. Same with raspberries for that matter. The raspberry I found in the aftertaste. I would drink this again, if the opportunity arises.
Thanks for sending me this, Lala!
Another sample from Lala (thank you!) which is also another SIPDOWN!!!
I’m pretty sure i’m reviewing this in the right place since it looked like a black and not a honeybush. Drank this one hot with added creamer. I enjoyed this better than butter beer. Since I added the creamer, I did get that feeling of ‘float’ taste and definitely got the root beer. Wouldn’t mind revisiting this one iced, but alas, my sample has been used up.
Thanks for sharing, Lala!

I pulled this one out of the box and finally got around to trying it yesterday.
This brewed up really dark – a deep golden yellow. I was a little skeptical, and thought that it would be bitter and undrinkable. But I was pleasantly surprised. Nutty and vegetal. I have no issues with strong tasting green tea’s so this was really tasty to me.
I am not so eloquent in my descriptions of tea. I have only recently become more and more fascinated with sheng puerh, and so lack the vocabulary to do this tea justice.
What I can say is that this is really good. I’ve done about 4 or 5 infusions now, and it seems to still carry a lot of flavour. Smoky, mineral, apricots. Those are the main flavours that I picked out. Some musty/humidity in the first couple of infusions, but not at all bothersome. I didn’t find any bitterness in this, but I did pretty short steeps. I decided to let infusion 5 steep for almost a minute just to see how bitter it would get, and it was pretty good with a bit of bitterness.
I loved the colour of the brew – golden honey. That kinda surprised me, actually. The mouth-feel was soupy/thick and very pleasant.
I really enjoyed this sheng and am considering a purchase. Definitely recommended.
Thank you so much for the sample Crimson Lotus! My apologies for the delay in writing a tasting note.
Agreed.
Learning is a life-long process. Writing tea reviews is a journey that sharpens both the senses and one’s mind.
“I have only recently become more and more fascinated with sheng puerh …”
And being open to new experiences further develops one’s tea reviewing skills. Kudos Scribbles!
Drinking this shou reminds me of walking through a damp forest. Notes of damp earth/soil, mossy and sweet. My first couple of infusions were my favourites since the forest flavours were most prominent.
The latter infusions were lighter, with hints of cocoa and woody notes.
Very enjoyable and a perfect pairing to this damp rainy morning. Thank you for the sample Crimson Lotus!
The last of the Wymm Tea samples. I thoroughly enjoyed them all, but I think this one is the favourite. Such a beautiful tea. Lovey thick mouth-feel that’s comes across as pudding like. Even the floral aftertaste lends a lovely sweetness to the tea. Yeah. Definitely my favourite.
Thank you so much, Wymm Tea for your generous samples!
Whoa—-this is a strong sheng. It’s quite powerful in it’s taste.
I’m on steep 4 or 5 – I lost count, and it’s showing no signs of giving up. Predominant taste is grass and sharp bitterness. In the aftertaste I am picking up on some stone fruit, but that comes and goes. I look forward to more steeps to see how this progresses.
This is quite the tasty sheng.
Many thanks to Wymm Tea for providing a sample.
Did you try the origin oolong tea wuyi rock tea da hong pao or lapsang souchong black tea before? How is the feeling?
