From DAVIDsTEA

Indulge

This ultra-rare oolong from the Wuyi Mountains of China is velvety smooth and lightly creamy, with a subtle hint of orchid. It’s said that it came about when the moon fell in love with a comet. The comet passed her by, as comets will do. The moon cried milky tears, which chilled the tea fields, withering the leaves and giving them a delicate creaminess. It’s been a rare luxury ever since.

Ingredients: Chinese oolong tea from the Fujian province, natural flavouring.

iv had this tea before but never got around to writing about it
i am a very big fan of oolongs so this tea appealed to me
i steeped this tea 4 times and i thought that the third steep was the best
1st steep: a little bitter, but still good, barely tasting the milkiness
2nd steep: barely bitter, starting to taste the milkiness
3rd steep: AMAZING. not bitter, super smooth, full on milk flavour, best steep so far
4th steep: kind of losing the milkiness, starting to run out of flavour, eh
in all a GREAT tea i would definitely purchase (even though i have 50 grams:)

oh and also everyone!
i have gotten two boxes of samplers so i will be reviewing those over the next couple weeks and hopefully i will be receiving tea from other steepster users so i will be reviewing those as soon as i get it

I was feeling incredibly lazy today. I somehow managed to hurt my hip, my sister (whom I’m babysitting) is being difficult, I couldn’t find one of my socks… It was just one of those days, and I didn’t feel like clearing the table so I’d have room to gong fu my tea. So, I brewed this western style in my Breville. One tablespoon to 500ml for 6 minutes at 195F to start with. I thought I’d go with what the packet said for the first few tries, but I’ll definitely try brewing it up differently, in future. Not convinced I got everything out of this tea that I could have.

On opening the packet, I was struck by how much everything smelt of cream. I even handed it to The Boy. He’s not very good at picking up scents and flavours in tea, generally, but he immediately picked up on the cream as well. There’s maybe the slightest whisper of floral at the tail end of the scent, it’s reminding me of the Verdant TGY.

It brews up fairly light – translucent, faded caramel. The smell of cream is unmistakable now. It reminds me of making cream of pumpkin for Thanksgiving. I’ve been known to steal a sip or two of the pure heavy cream when nobody’s looking! The floral note is more muted, though it’s still hiding in there. (Second steep is less floral than the first. But it’s still there, under the cream!)

It tastes exactly how I thought it would – milky, silky, sweet. A bit overwhelmingly so on all accounts, which is why I need to try different steeping parameters next time. And a different menu. I’m fairly sure the garlicky dinner (mofongo, tostones, arroz con gandules, beans. ALL slathered with garlic to nearly shameful levels!) I had is clashing with the tea! Drinking water didn’t particularly cleanse my palate well enough. Actually, I’m certain that’s what the issue is, so I can’t in good conscience rate this tea right now.

It IS rather nice. I do quite like it. But I’ll steep it differently and have it after a more appropriate dinner next time. Mmmm, I can’t stop smelling this packet of tea, though. It smells soooo good!

looking at everyone other person’s ratings, i see that i am the odd man out. I do not like this tea. I do not even know how to describe the taste. i think i might have to dump it out. This is the second time i had it and i did not like it the first time. So the second try i tried to steep it for less time so that the flavor would not be as strong. Did not help.

You could try doing a short steep, like 30 seconds and dumping out that water and then try the 2nd steep. That is what I do

teatoad

thanks but it was a sampler so i only had 2 tries with it. so i am out of it now.

You’re not alone – I wasn’t a fan of it, either!

So I tried this tea in store today… Thank you 1$ straight tea promo I finally had a chance to taste this tea. It’s been on my wishlist since forever.

I’m kind of tired so this review will be short… WOW! This is all i’m gonna say, i’m resteeping it right now so maybe another review tomorrow! (But a little bit oversteeped)

I still need to do more comparisons between this and ATR’s milk oolong. But both are delicious.

This was one of the teas I was MOST excited to try from DAVIDsTEA. Apparently, this is one of the most impressive milk oolongs out there today. I’m quite excited! It’s a gorgeous golden, faded yellow color. The scent is a bit more green, like vegetables, with a buttery finish.

Steep #1: First sip is FAR more like grass and vegetables than expected. As I keep sipping, the tea reveals that it’s a bit more astringent than expected. I’m not getting much milk or cream, only the faintest bit of butter and floral finish.

Steep #2: More yellow in color and definitely more buttery/milky. I am still tasting more of the “tea” component, than anything creamy. It is quite smooth, as well.

While this is a good cup of tea, it isn’t my favorite milk oolong I’ve tried. It’s still more vegetable than creamy, sweet milk.

Thank you very much, ladykittykat!

So yummy…. milky and creamy without the actual milk and cream….

I had this a couple of days back, and had done the same as I did with the coconut oolong from DT. I’m really taking a liking to oolongs, but unsure which one I would settle on as a long-term drink since I like to just stick with a couple of different teas.

I’m still in my experimenting stages… :D

This is one of my favorite oolongs from Davids, along with Vanilla Orchid (which is very different from this one)

Oh yes, I absolutely love the Vanilla Orchid too!
How is just the “Vanilla Oolong” compared to the Vanilla Orchid?

This was so light and delicate that the taste from the paper cup I had from the store almost over-powered it. I didn’t taste much except for a bit of creaminess.

I steeped this a second time in my mug at work. I needed to let it steep for a while to be able to taste anything but the milkiness, which was pleasant, but kind of bland. I eventually tasted a light vegetal quality almost like lima beans and a very faint floral scent.

I think this is simply marvelous.

A cup of Quangzhou Milk Oolong is perfect any time of the day, even as sunny as it is outside in Toronto. It lifts my mood up even higher. Also, for just a moment of time, I could feel the world unveil its beauty. Am I exaggerating? I like to think not.

I’m having mine straight. I’ve battle against my urges to add some sweetness but I can tell you that is was an easy triumph. The flavour is delicate: creamy, buttery roasted – is that adjective even possible? (laughs), smooth and silky.

Man, I love this tea.

I really wouldn’t call the orchid subtle though, it’s pretty in your face. Luckily, I like it!
