I don’t even want to know how much I spend on tea a year.. definitely over 1,000 though. Every time I go into Davids’ tea or Teavana I end up leaving with triple the amount I came in for and 60 bucks poorer.

I’m with keychange and Rebecca. It would make some of y’all feel so much better if I could make myself actually do this.

Haha I only do it for fun. I’ll spend whatever I spend but it’s fun to track heh

It’s good to know. :D Whenever I come to this thread and see people’s totals while mine is well over a hundred per month, I hyperventilate a little. I did promise myself though that this will be a year of sheng bricks and cakes plus I want to try some of the exquisite teas the world has to offer. That tends to inflate purchase totals a bit… lol

Kamyria – just look at dexter, cavo and i…seems like we always hit 100/month hahaha

And I honestly don’t expect myself to spend any more in March. We’ll see!

my husband and I were talking about this the other night. I think I’ll probably spend around $300 this year. I’ve gotten a LOT more conservative with my spending on tea the last six months or so… maybe it’s been a year?
Anyways, I’m working on drinking down a lot of the ones in my cupboard so I have room for more. Right now, there isn’t room for more. haha
So far this year, I’ve only spent around $50-60. And most of that was on a gift card. I’ve been really good. But, the spring collection is out at Davidstea, so it’s only a matter of time before I buy a few tins. I want the Cool Cucumber for sure 100g.

I’m excited to see what they do for summer teas. If they bring back some of my beloved teas (strawberry shortcake, swampwater, luscious watermelon) I’ll probably end up buying large quantities. Like I’m thinking 250g bags or more.

I haven’t posted on this one yet because it was kinda scaring me what I spent in February but March is much better so far and don’t plan to spend anymore (but might do a swap) in March. My cupboard is sooo full.

Well I don’t want to budget my tea spending but I am trying to drink down my tea stash.

January – Cheap jasmine green loose that I shouldn’t have tried $22.00

February – None

March – Meng Feng Tea & Ginseng Shop $70.00

I definitely plan on spending a lot more at this shop. I was thrilled to finally go to that tea shop with an interpreter and learn that all I need to do is point at the bulk teas and tell them the dollar amount that I want to purchase of it. :)
The really fun part about shopping here is labels on the bulk teas. The only English part of the label says something like green tea, jasmine green tea or oolong tea with different per lb pricing.

So in the spirit of adventure and curiosity I purchased a small amount of a “green tea” that I have no clue what type of green it is. The leaves are rolled into a shape that resembles a hand rolled cigarette. It looks like they have been twisted. They are about 3" long. Does anyone have any ideas as to what type of “green tea” I purchased? Any tips on brewing it?

Oooh it sounds like you might have picked yourself up some kuding tea? Here’s the one I bought awhile ago from a shop in Chinatown: http://www.birdpick.com/teas/loose-teas/royal-1-and-one-green-tea.html#.UyVUNPSwJRY without knowing what it was. If that’s what you got yourself, I’d recommend the steeping instructions on that page, and also I’ll warn you that it is BRACING. Bitterest tea I’ve ever had. Apparently very good for you though!

Sillyvicen said

That looks very similar to what I purchased. Mine is the same shape but a little bit darker without the green highlights. Thank you for the warning about the bitterness. Thankfully I only purchased $5.00 dollar sample.

Because it’s nearing the end of March and I just finished my massive tea spree and oh my gosh I am going to go on a tea buying hiatus till fall/winter because I spent so much wow.
Budget: $300
New budget: $500

January:
None. So proud of myself :)

February:
- Adagio: $16
- DAVIDs: $57

March:
- MissB Mystery package: $25
- Julie’s Coffee & Tea: $7
- Lupicia: $63
- DAVIDs: $77

GRAND TOTAL: $245

I’m 5/6 through the budget I set for myself at the beginning of the year dang. Well, in my defense, I’m celebrating a new job with Disney and the fact that I was able to visit tea stores, instead of buying blind. And I got like $30 worth of free stuff when I went to DAVIDs because sales are great :))
what the heck. I need to stop rationalizing things. I just wanted to spend all my birthday money and splurge on tea
