I don’t know how much I spent on tea in 2014 but it was an obscene sum in the four figures. I spent $450 on my Christmas Eve Puerhshop order alone. I will have to keep better track in 2015.
Mmm, I got sick mid year, which put a big damper on my tea activities, and completely stopped tracking this.
At a rough guesstimate I spent about 1100 dollars on tea and related expenses this year, travelled approximately 1000 miles on tea journeys, sent and recieved mail from five different countries, drank about 80 gallons of tea, and advised two total strangers in grocery stores on tea purchasing.
Happy 2015 everyone!
I think I probably spent at least $1000 on tea this year, though I haven’t been keeping track. 2015 I plan to buy less, and I think I will start keeping track.
Is there going to be a new thread for 2015 tracking?
heh you can always start one :)
I don’t want to know – it was out of control obscene in 2014. New rules for 2015….and it will be better now that I have a decent teaware collection. I really should keep track….
NO REALLY – over the weekend I’m going to weigh all my teas, update my cupboard spreadsheet – cull my stash of things I will never drink. Then set up a budget spreadsheet for the year. The cupboard spreadsheet was a huge eye opener on how much I have – and I went a long time with out buying tea – now if I can just do that with teaware… seeing the amount spent should help with that. Hoping, crossing fingers
well let me know how i can help! (even if it’s as simple as sharing purchases so you get more teas in smaller quantities at better prices) i know 2015 HAS to be better for me…stupid weddings.
Since 01Aug14 I’ve spent 96.84 USD on tea. I don’t want to know about teaware. The first half of the year I spent a fortune on tea and next to nothing on teaware. Now I need to find the balance.
Yep if we could split some that would be great – or if you order from company A and I order from company B and share etc.
teaware is really not a problem… at some point you have enough after all
zeks – says you….you haven’t seen dexters cupboard…
Dex – of course! more than happy to do that over the year! Terri and i do that as well :)
I’m blaming Instagram on my teaware obsession…. If there is a “point where you have enough” – I haven’t found it yet…. There is just so much beautiful stuff out there. :))
I think I’m in Dexter’s camp here. My spending was obscene this past year and it has to stop. And I have yet to find the “enough” point either…
I’m in Dexter’s camp, too – pretty sure that “enough” point is a looong way away. My comfort is that I’m allowed to pick out as many beautiful accessories as I want for all of you guys, and then enjoy them vicariously whenever I get to bundle them up in bubble wrap and pack them up in the mail.
I envy you, Lily. I would love to be able to pick out lovely things and enjoy them while they are in my shop, then be able to send them to their forever homes. :)
It definitely helps keep my own collection under control. :) Besides, it’s fun to share and gift anyway. I just love knowing that they’re going to be used and loved every day.
Dexter, but seriously, do you regret any of your teaware purchases ? i dont !
It’s nice to see that others have “my problem”. :))
boychik – no I don’t regret my teaware purchases – but you have to understand that I went from NONE to MOUNTAINS in a very short period of time. I can’t continue to buy as though I don’t have any. I need to slow my buying and be more selective – only be picking up the REALLY AMAZING pieces. I need to find the balance – some teaware, some tea. :))
we are in the same boat ;) its hard to find a balance. i do buy only what i really really love. But i love many things and not enough space to place them ;(
Btw, is it possible i “borrow” your spreadsheet ?
there’s a reason i’m glad we live in an apartment. I just keep resisting buying teawares by convincing myself that i can wait until we have a house and i get a whole tea room for them giggling
But Sil that is the problem – I didn’t buy a house, I bought a condo – LOL I don’t have space for a tea room – would love one, but need to win the lottery or something….. I hope you are able to get the home of your dreams that includes a tea room :))
boychik – Sure – I have it as a Google docs sheet. Do you just want to look at it for ideas, or do you want to “steal” it for a template for your own? I’ll PM you when I get home and see if I can send it to you. :))
Steal !!! i dont have time. i tried to do it once and … it wasnt good. When you can ,no rush :)
i have a house but its tiny for 5 of us;( no tea cabinet, forget the room
boychick – if you would PM me your email address I’ll send it to you in Excel format. :))
@Dexter Would it be terribly rude to ask if I could see your spreadsheet too? I’m wondering how you set up yours. I have one I’ve been working on, but really not sure how well it’s working for me…
Raises my hand – hey Dexter – can I get your spreadsheet too please? I need to do SOMETHING :)
I totally lost count mid summer but I want to try again for 2015!
I have lost track all together of my tea purchases. I’m okay with that though. I think knowing the true amount I spent would just make me sick! Between a few teaware items and the teas I’ve spent my head is spinning.
I have spent well over my estimate of $300. If anything, I think I probably doubled it… and I’m still waiting on teaware to come in from amazon.com.
This year… 2015… I don’t know if I’ll keep track or not. I have a lot to drink up so maybe it won’t be as bad, but I dunno. I am a sucker for Davidstea’s crazy blends…
Approximately 750$. More or less what I expected.
According to my sporadically updated thread on the fourth page, I estimated $700 at the beginning of the year. I’ve been mostly keeping track in a document to keep myself in line with regard to online orders (went a little nuts during Black Friday, whoops. whatever, my cupboard was bare!). So making allowances for a few grocery store teas or herbs used for teas that I didn’t make explicit note of, my total has landed at $867.44 for the year 2014.
I’m ending the year with a full cupboard, plus a Tea Guys order on the way since I couldn’t resist their most recent sale, so I’m putting myself on a buying embargo for awhile!
Hm, yeah, now that I think about it the last 150$ I’ve spent are technically 2015 since the tea only arrived on 29th and I’m gonna have a full cupboard for quite some time
January – $35.90
February – $14.45
March – $15.00
April- $66.55
May – $3
June – $0
July – $27.95
August- $15.40
September – $24.00
October – $19.50
November – $35.00 (estimate)
December – $53.75
Total this year $310.50
(My budget for the year was estimated at $200. I surpassed that amount in September. I averaged $25.875 per month throughout the year with a low of $0 one month and a high of $66 in another month. I “overspent” by $110.50)
I started this thread last year and “maintained” it monthly. If anyone is interested in starting a similar thread for 2015, please feel free to do so. But please commit to updating the heading every month. If no one starts a thread by the end of January, I will probably do it. Thanks to everyone who participated.
Please do. You did a great job. Even though I didn’t keep track I might this year. Also reading other people budgets and predictions may help me to slow down ….
$786 vs a goal of $500. I was doing great until I discovered puerh. Good news is that it shouldn’t go stale. Bad news is that I probably have a 2-year supply.
I definitely need to spend less next year. I am trying to taste all of my teas in January and have discovered that many are more than a year old and stale. I’ve already thrown out some teas, and expect I’ll have to toss more.
haha yeah…i’m hoping my 1+yr supply of puerh will help keep my spending in check this year.
