How much DID you spend on tea in 2014?

I estimate $450 total yearly spending.

January total: $66 (much more than I predict spending monthly because I purchased an expensive bag of tea this month as a one time after-holiday splurge)

I spent $95 on tea in January, $44 to Teavivre and $51 to Butiki. I had to stock up on some black tea.

I predict I’ll spend $500-750. I have developed some expensive tastes.

(Budget: $50/mo)
January: $77
February (thus far): $50

No more surprise French tea sales and I should be fine. They are my kryptonite.

You mean like the one on right now with fauchon/vente privee? :)

Kamyria said

lmao!!

Dinosara said

Sil – That’s why there’s $50 in Feb instead of just $17. Hence I specified no more sales. :)

Dinosara said

Ugh, add another $28 to Feb for the Lovebird mug Shadowfall bought on my behalf. Running total for Feb: $78

Heh. Still under me! Wat to go on sticking clos-ER to the budget (since we. Share the same budget monthly haha)

Ok, time to carry this over from January:

Prediction: $750

Actual:
January TOTAL: 234.66

February:
Amoda: $12.00
Hugo Tea: $50.00
The Devotea: 18.00
Aun-Juli samples: 10.00
DAVIDsTEA Mason Jug/Tea: 37.00
RiverTea: 25:00
Nina’s Paris: $25
Lupicia: $36
February TOTAL: $213

Yearly Total (so far): $447.66

How Do I Feel About This?: That’s a lot. But I still feel like I’m getting a lot of big purchases, or teas I’ve waited over a year for, out of the way. My spending should slow down. It better.

My cupboard is still hovering around 150 which is encouraging. Teas come in. Teas get sipped down.

I should probably add that I have pretty much $0 frivolous expenses outside of tea (i.e., outside of daycare, buspasses, rent etc).

I knit (very slowly!) and have enough yarn for projects to last a few months. I read, but all the fanfiction I read slows me down from buying ebooks, and I play video games, but not all the games. The $15 I spent on Starbound will keep me entertained for months.

Also, I am no good at fashion. I wear $10 t-shirts until they fall apart. ;P I could probably look pretty awesome if I just stopped buying tea for a few months, but I just wouldn’t want to!
So that helps me justify what I spend here! :D

Dinosara said

Getting back into knitting has been dangerous for me. Even though I have a huge yarn stash I feel myself spending a good amount on yarn lately. :P

TeaLady441 said

Oh, I can totally see how you COULD spend a lot on yarn! I’m just the slowest knitter out there. I really love my Game of Thrones scarf, but I don’t know that I’ll have it done until NEXT winter, especially now that I’m working again!

Here’s my progress: http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=1illao&s=8
I did most of that in 2 months, and then 9 rows in the last two weeks. :| (It’d be easier to knit if my toddler didn’t try to mess up my yarn – I end up waiting for her to go to bed now!)

psst math = 90$ in February..

TeaLady441 said

Whoops. Thanks

Sil select said

just trying to give you 10$ back so you can spend it on more tea ;)

Dinosara said

I love your Winterfell scarf! I want to make something GOT themed but that would necessitate buying more yarn, hahaha.

i didn’t place any online orders in January, though i bought plenty of tea in stores ;) would be interesting to get the total amount, but receipts are all over the place.

as of February:
-Nina’s Paris: $9.91
-Golden Moon: $39.86
-Butiki: $42.04
-Harney & Sons: $15.40
Total: $107.21

also hoping to make purchases from Mandala and H̶a̶r̶n̶e̶y̶ ̶&̶ ̶S̶o̶n̶s̶
also want to try Della Terra & Davids, but don’t want to demolish my recent earnings! lol

I want to estimate about $300? Well, I’m budgeting $300 and let’s hope I stick to that!

January:
- NONE. I’M A GOOD GIRL. (I’m so proud of myself okay. Definitely almost slipped up)

February:
- Adagio: $30 – $14 (frequent cup points) = $16
- David’s: $57

Total: $73

So I’m about 25% through my budget. Looks like I won’t be spending money on tea anytime soon.
Hoping to place an order for Mandala, Della Terra and Butiki sometime later this year. LAAATER this year.

I thought the max for frequent cup points was $10 at a time.

nope, I used mine a while back to purchase a new ingenuiTEA + a sampler pack and that was $24

interesting…

The minimum points you need to use your frequent cup points is 100 ($10).
So if you have like 90 points, you need to get another 10 to actually use it. Since I had 240 points saved up, I decided to use 140 to get $14 off, and still have the minimum if I end up caving and making another adagio order :)

Ohhh ok, so its a minimum rather than a maximum. BIG difference. Thank you :)

Tyler

Well hold on a darn minute. This is straight from their website:

“Your “frequent cups” account presently contains 103 points. Any amount over 100 entitles you to receive a complimentary gift-certificate, good for any item in our store. The maximum value that you may request at this time is $10 (100 points)"

:( Either they’ve changed the rules or someone worded it incorrectly. Now I’m back to being confused.

Tyler
http://onelittleblackdress.com

That’s because you only have 103 points. Any amount of 100 points can get you a gift voucher. You’ve already reached the minimum so you’re all good with using your points.
I had 244 points saved up so on my account, it says that I could request $24, for 240 points. I decided to use 140 points so I can still keep the minimum.

Say if you had 79 points, it may say you’ll need a minimum of 21 points to request a certificate.
The maximum number of points depends on your account.

Well I’m so glad I have a frequent cup point expert to consult :) thank you

Tyler

Hahha, not an expert at all! I was wondering the same thing, but then one day I actually forgot I had the frequent cup points! I saw my total after the purchase and realized that I can do more than $10 :) So yeah. Good to know how all these discount things work for all these tea sites :)

Well….i almost stuck to my budget…if i technically toss Nina’s into March, since i won’t get the teas until then anyway…i could finally have made it one month reaching my budget lol

Dinosara said

Haha, at this rate I won’t get my Vente-privee order until March! Still “processing” ugh! Maybe I should count it for that month. :)

Sil select said

haha you could. I think at this rate, my prediction of 1000 was accurate…now i just have to make sure my overtime will account for the 400$ difference in budgeting haha

I am doing better than expected this year. I was planning an order at Red Leaf in Feb. for matcha, but the free sample this month does not interest me at all, and we have plenty of at least one flavor everyone likes. There have been a few others that have piqued my interest, and I know I will have to order some more Laoshan Black from Verdant at some point. So far, I am seriously trying to just drink what I have for now.

Still at $25 for the year for my David’s Timolino in January.
