278 Tasting Notes
Method: super shou, 10-10-15-20 second rinses. Then brew for 20-20-25
I tasted each rinse until I got to one I could drink without tasting so much earthiness. Now it’s pretty nice. It’s a little sweet and I can taste some vanilla. It’s still a little cavey, but not insanely so.
Don’t tell boychik that I threw all those steeps away… ssshhh
Preparation
SHENG PARTY with my girls!!!!!
I don’t know why I only gave this a 91 the first time. It’s better than that. This stuff is amazeballs. It’s a damn shame that it’s sold out. I really hope more material can be sourced because this one is a winner!!! It’s so smooth and makes you feel all buzzy and far away yet here at the same time.
Happy tea. Of happiness!!!!
Preparation
Method: 5 g, 5 oz, 200 degrees, rinse 10-10, Brew 15, 30, 45, 60, shou yixing
Aroma: Mild cave
Flavor: I was at my Mom’s house for a little barbie today and overdid it. I came home, fed the pups and immediately started making some shou. But which shou??? I somehow had several WP shou samples, and since I tried the tuo earlier, I went with this loose sample. Only 2 rinses were needed to get past the dirty flavors.
The first 15 second steep didn’t seem very strong, so instead of adding 5 to each subsequent steep, I added 15. Worked out great! I like this shou, and I’m hoping it aids in digesting the rather oily foods I was consuming earlier. <3
Preparation
I used one tuo in 4.5 oz water at 200 degrees. Three 10 second rinses and then 15-20-25 seconds.
It took 3 rinses for the earthy flavors to abate. Now there’s just a lightly cavey flavor. It’s rather pleasant and even a little sweet.
Not much else to say. No one is going to see this anyhow, so I’m not going to take the time to be poetic. Instead, I am going to find a yoga video since I’ve stopped being so sore. Yay! :)
Preparation
I see it! :-)
Glad you found it agreeable. I must say that I’m definitely not regretting discontinuing this one, though.
I see it too! At least we can peruse everyone’s notes from the link at the bottom of the explore page!
Method: rinse 10-10-15-20 and dump. Steep 20-30 and drink. 5 g, 5 oz, 200 degrees
You can still call me Dr. Sheng, but this is making me all woozy. I just did a little group long distance yoga with friends, and I’m drinking this on my new shou exploration. I’m digging it. Once you rinse the excessive earthy flavors off the shou, they end up tasting pretty good, smooth and mild.
I guess I needed to get here in my own time, but baby, I’ve ARRIVED :p
Preparation
Thanks to ost for this sample!
This one is pretty smokey, but it does have some lovely fruity flavors and no bitterness. I guess I didn’t realize it wasn’t a blend, and just a straight sheng, or I would have done it gongfu. I still have enough for another round, so yay!
I’ll do a gongfu session later with more notes!
Preparation
Method: 6 g, 6 oz, 200 degrees, rinse 10-20-10 (oops), sheng yixing and Goldie
I think this tea is a heck of a bargain. $5.19 for 100 grams can’t be beat. It’s not the world’s most amazing sheng, but it’s certainly good. I’m quite happy with this purchase. The flavor is mild and pleasant, with a small kick, but without any very strong bitterness. It’s a nice sipper, and at $5.19 per cake, I would highly recommend it.
Preparation
Method: super shou
Aroma: Cocoa fo sho
Flavor: I had to get a little further in before I could taste the chocolate. But I was picking up some nice leathery notes and overall pleasantness before that. It’s been a little while since I first had this. I’m glad I didn’t give up on shou. Somehow I had a feeling that we would find a way to really click!
Preparation
It’s about like this -
Method: rinse 10-10-10-15-20 and dump. Steep 20-25-30 and drink. 5 g, 4 oz, 200 degrees
I have to rinse ALOT to enjoy shous. It gets rid of the extreme earthy flavors!
So, basically you flush down the drain everything i love abt shou.
Maybe its like baby steps. each time you gonna dump less and less???
Now that I can fully express my love of shous, I decided to brew this one up.
Method: rinse 10-10-10-15-20 and dump. Steep 20-25-30 and drink. 5 g, 4 oz, 200 degrees
I think I finally found a shou method that works for me!!!! SO EXCITED! I am seasoning my TeaVivre pot in this tea, so I decided to drink some also. I’m feeling all relaxed and mellow. Had a nice lunch with friends downtown. I have a pot of shou simmering with my yixing on the stovetop. All my pups are happy and spry today. Life is good!!!!!
This tastes like honey and caramel. I may not even needed quite so many rinses, but I was making some for the seasoning, and it all worked out. So happy!!!!
Preparation
A mix between the two is easy to do. A little sheng and toss in some shou will make for a happy you. What can I do as it is always true. A sheng a shou it’s all some puuuu….A small Haiku…..for you…
My name is Dr. Sheng. Please make a note of it, Fairycakes :p
Me? Love Sheng AND Shou? It just seems so… wrong! LOL
Really, mrmo? Do you mix them for real? I love your poem. :)
You name is Dr Sheng? My gastroenterologist name is Dr Shou, but when asked he didn’t know anything about the health benefits of Shou puerh. True story.
No way, Allan!!!! Shouldn’t a gastroenterologist know all about shou???? Especially one NAMED Dr. Shou?
So I’m trying Temple Stairs for the first time, and I think I agree with your method, Sarsonator. I dumped the first two, and started with the third, and dumped that about a third of the way through. The fourth was much better for me. Lesson learned.
This was a sample from ost. Thank you, sweet pea!
I don’t see this on the WP site anymore, so maybe it was a limited edition or was phased out. I think it’s a good breakfast tea. My boyfriend likes it, too! It has a nice black tea aroma and tastes fruity. No idea which fruit, but it’s pleasant. I added a little maple b/c I was at the end of one bottle and was ready to open another.
And now – Fried green tomatoes and biscuits with spicy roasted sweet potatoes for breakfast! Yay!
Preparation
That breakfast sounds so good! I didn’t even know about that tea. I am, however, enjoying my Jabberwok this morning.
Sounds like an awesome brekkie, but of course, anything that includes sweet taters is usually awesome in my book!
Love it, Allan. Once I figured out that you can’t leave it unrefrigerated like fake maple pancake syrup, we have been BFFs. I haven’t been drinking as many flavored teas, but I do love it in most of them. It’s also great in many of my black teas when I am in the mood for something sweet.
i saw it:)
well damn! I usually feed it to my tea pet or use it to bathe my yixing. Does that make you feel any better? :)
yes. in this case its not wasted:)
I want a tea pet! And a tea tray…and a yixing pot, LOL…
Don’t start Stephanie…. too easy to be addicted!!! :)
