Well, I’ve decided I’m on a green tea kick tonight. Have so many things I need to try before Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales so gotta hurry and try all these samples so it will give me a better idea what to buy.
This one is probably the win of the night so far though!
Can’t believe it took me so long to try this one.
I love the extra sweetness the matcha adds to the genmaicha. It’s just the perfect combo. Would definitely buy more of this! :D

Flavors: Spinach, Sweet, Toasted Rice

Stephanie

I dig this one. Has a nice kick too!

The Cookie Lady

Lol I’ve been picking my teas each day based on what I might want to order for Black Friday/Cyber Monday, too :)

I agree, this one has a good kick. It’s probably my favorite genmaicha with matcha.

Yay this is the last tea from my Den’s novice sampler. Gotta try ‘em all! I was pretty excited for this one since I really liked the tea bag version that was also included. The dry tea is a mixture of long, rough-looking, flat leaves with toasted rice and all of it is coated in matcha. The popped rice visually reminds me of Nerds candy and there was one huge piece that I totally considered eating, and I would have if it hadn’t been covered in matcha. The smell is not nearly as strong as I suspected it would be. It’s a light matcha scent and little hint of hay. I brewed it at 175 degrees for one minute.

The aroma of this tea is fantastic! It’s super toasty-smelling. On a short sniff, I don’t get any other smell. If I take a long sniff, I start to get the vegetal scent at the end. Smelling this tea made my mouth water. When I taste it, I get a lot of toasted rice flavor which is amazing. In the middle of the sip, there’s that slightly spinachy green tea taste along with a slightly sweeter hint from the matcha. The aftertaste is all amazing roastiness with a touch of spinach. This tea is very savory, it’s almost like eating instead of drinking. I love it so much!

Based on this, I think I really need to try some bancha! Sooooooon.

Glad to see you are having success with the greens :-)

Yeah! Thanks for your help with the steeping parameters. :D

Stephanie

This one is great. I loved it from the sampler so much that I ordered more :)

Cameron B.

Yeah I’ll definitely be grabbing some of this with my $3 off coupon. I’m wondering how much this differs from their regular genmaicha since I didn’t taste a ton of matcha.

Stephanie

Tastes similar but this one definitely has more of a caffeine kick! ;)

Cameron B.

Good to know! Thanks Stephanie. :)

The instant I opened the sampler foil package the roasted and sweet matcha aroma instantly made me smile. The matcha appeared to be great quality by the smell and he bright green color. I knew this was going to be a great tea. The first steep I followed the suggested timing and the flavor was an amazing blend of nutty and vegetal with no bitterness. The nutty part of the flavor reminded me of the popcorn kernels(which I love). The toasted rice is also fun to chew on. This tea was overall very enjoyable.

The matcha really adds to my enjoyment of this tea. It tastes fresh and more green but still with the distinctive genmaicha flavor. I enjoy this one mainly by adding a sencha to it to cut down on the genmaicha taste a little more but still retain some for novelty.

This was one of the samples in my Den’s sampler. If you haven’t ordered this yet, I highly recommend it. Only $3.

This tea was very good. I love the toasty flavor the added matcha makes it that much greener. Mmmm. All the things I love about genmaicha.

I didn’t think genmaicha tea would be as enjoyable as my refreshing sencha or energizing and umami-filled matcha, but a Den’s Tea sampler arrived quickly at my doorstep to defeat such notions. Immediately after ripping open the silver pouch, saturated green matcha powder and the scent of toasted rice greeted me. In terms of steeping, for fear of bringing out too much matcha bitterness, I allowed boiling water to cool for about 3 minutes before steeping for exactly 30 seconds. A muddy, but bright green cup was produced that both smelled and tasted wonderful. As you bring the cup towards you, the scent of seaweed and toasted rice wafts up. There was a slight, lingering bitterness that followed the smooth, vegetal beginning. As the tea drew nearer to the bottom of my cup, the seaweed flavor became more present. Definitely a treat for the senses and worthy of a try, especially if rice-based snacks elicit nostalgic memories for you (ahh…bin bin rice crackers).
