Feeling hot, hot, hot

We take hot chocolate pretty seriously around here. It’s gotta be rich, decadent and mega-creamy. And after searching high and low for the ultimate hot chocolate tea, we finally found the perfect blend. We took a flavourful base of pu’erh and black tea, then we added real cocoa nibs and fudgy chocolate chips. The result? An uber-chocolately blend worthy of the name Hot Chocolate. Dark, sweet and totally satisfying, it’s the perfect winter treat.

This definitely lives up to the name. With a little bit of agave nectar, this is sweet, rich, and chocolaty. I was originally hesitant to try this because of the puerh in the blend (I remember having a very unpleasant experience with David’s Chocolate Orange puerh), but this is really nice. I’ll enjoy finishing the rest of this.

Not for pu’erh purists – but delcicious. Deep, fudgey, and a bit minty on the finish. Satisfied my chocolate craving tonight :)

I guess it is a pu’erh kind of day for me. I didn’t get too much sleep last night because of the babe, so I need some caffeine today!

This tea smells delightful. And then you steep it…it would be good except the stevia kinda ruins it. I don’t mind stevia sometimes, but in this blend, it leaves a really weird aftertaste that I just can’t get over. I would like to add my own sweetener DAVIDsTEA, please and thank you.

daily resolution 11/14
Not a fan of flavored teas. Especially not a fan of flavored teas containing things that melt and leave nasty oily circles on top of my drink. Obviously I was not going to be impressed by this one (however nice it smells!).

Kept resteeping in hopes of getting past the chocolate to the black/pu erh base. Got some nice earthy hints on the third steep when I focused really hard on tasting.

Tried with more leaves and milk. Quite good with the milk!

This came as part of the “your daily resolution” sampler. Sipped it along with some peppermint white chocolate covered pretzels which complemented it well.
Nice pu’erh /black tea with essence of chocolate. Like the tea but not quite enough to spring for a 2oz supply, but welcome in any sampler we may come across. Would recommend for those who enjoy chocolate flavored teas and along with something sweet.

Stevia. Bad. Bad bad bad! Ick.
Yeah this totally reminds me of hot chocolate, but the diabetic one my Grandfather used to have when I was a kid. The type that leaves a nasty burning sensation on my tongue for quite some time afterwards. Blegh.
First I tried this sans milk and found it horribly astringent and super sweet. In a no good terrible way. With milk, I can probably finish my cup.
Actually, I noticed that if I sip at it while doing something else, like checking emails etc, I can get by without really focusing on the taste. But tea is a relaxing, happy zen kinda experience for me. So if the only way I can drink a blend is by not being present, in the moment…. well count me out. No thanks.

Also, David’s Tea I have a bone to pick with you! The website says nothing about artificial ingredients, yet the label in store does. So which is it?

Alright, I stand by my review that this tea tastes mediocre by itself.

However, as a latte, this tea is incredible. I can taste cream, salt, and caramel along with the toned-down smokiness and sweetness. It’s like a grown up version of Carnation without the cloying sugar rush.

If I was given the choice between this and a regular milk and cocoa powder based hot chocolate, I’d probably pick this one. I’m just not sure I’d want to buy it to keep it on hand for hot chocolate tea lattes, and I’m still a little peeved about the Stevia (as always).

Chocolate and pu-erh are two ingredients that were just made to go together. I can’t really review this properly yet because whatever bug I’ve got has my taste buds out of wack. But suffice to say even with my throat feeling like it’s been sandpapered the blend still tasted so good.

Day 11/24 of 24 days of tea

Darn,another tea I can’t really drink . Took a couple sips from the big mug I made my husband. What a wonderful dessert tea: the chocolate is real and not at all artificial, and the tea has great body to it. This is slightly sweetened, but it works for a tea that’s called “hot chocolate”. If you like dessert teas, you’ll love this one. I only wish I could drink black/pu’erh teas
