Dark side of the brew

What is it about dark chocolate? Its taste is sinfully decadent, but studies say it might actually be good for you. But wait – it gets better. Now you don’t even have to wait until dessert to get your fix. With this black tea blend, you can treat yourself anytime, anywhere. With cocoa shells, blueberries and big chunks of luscious dark chocolate, it’s a deliciously rich taste of our favourite indulgence. Welcome to the dark side…

Had this one yesterday at my mom-in-law’s place.

I found it to be quite… interesting. It’s definitely dark chocolate and a fruitiness to it…
Will have to review again soon. I know I thought this would make a great latte though.

I had high hopes for this one, because CACAO SHELLS! And while it is definitely pretty chocolatey (kind of artificial, yes), I didn’t realize the chocolate was spiced. Now, that’s not actually a big problem, just not what I was expecting. Can’t taste blueberry anywhere here, though.

One big plus to this tea? It’s not sweetened, I don’t think. Not beyond the chocolate pieces. No licorice sweetness. I am pretty sure this would be best as a latte, so I’ll probably take the rest to work. The milk supplied there makes lattes easy for me (too easy…)

All in all, though, probably nothing I’d get again. Straight cacao shells produce a better chocolate flavour if that’s what I’m craving.

When this first came out a week ago, I sampled it in store with no milk. It wasn’t remarkable, but I knew that it would need some milk to really be evaluated as it should. So, I got some to bring home and brewed it up as a hot latte. Wow! That is amazing! As the lady in store said, it is so much like hot chocolate. And I love dark chocolate (and actually prefer it to milk chocolate), so this was right up my alley. I think I will definitely keep a big stock of this one in my tea cupboard for times when I want a rich and creamy dessert tea. This one definitely delivers on its name. I can’t wait to try it iced as well.

And one more thing….I was originally perplexed as to why they would add blueberries to this tea, but you cannot really taste the blueberry in the brewed tea. I was relieved to discover this, as I am not huge fan of mixing chocolate with fruit.

This tea has a lot of chocolate flavor, dark chocolate. You can tell it’s not milk chocolate flavor. It’s pretty good even if not incredibly spectacular. I would buy it again. The blueberry flavor is nice too if a little subdued. This is definitely a tea you want to add sugar to. I think sugar brought out more chocolate flavor than what I tasted in store without sugar.

I brewed this once in a 16oz Teavana Glass Perfect Tea Maker/Gravity Steeper with 3 tsp leaf and boiling water for 4 min.

Nice! I went to DT the day before this was released, so I guess I need to go there again. Haha.

I sampled this in store today. I was hoping to like it of course, but I’m not usually a fan of chocolate flavoured teas. I was pleasantly surprised! It didn’t taste like the usual watered down hot chocolate flavour I associate with chocolate flavoured teas. This had a solid cocoa flavour, and a hint of spice.

I had a cup of this today for the first time. It is enjoyable, but doesn’t have quite as much flavor as some other chocolate teas. That being said, I’ll probably drink it again, but not without wishing that it was David’s Earl of Valentine tea.

Dry Leaf Nose: Cocoa with a spicy complexity from the chipotle.

Liquor: Deep red/orange colour. Smells like cocoa.

Flavour: Cocoa flavour dominates, and the black tea adds a honey-like sweetness.
