From DAVIDsTEA

Delicately floral, with a sweet seductive aroma, this jasmine green tea is perfection. Handpicked tea leaves from the Fujian region in China are layered with fresh jasmine petals for a sweet floral aroma, then shaped into pretty little butterflies that unfurl as they steep. It’s a rare reserve green tea that might be the finest jasmine we’ve ever tasted. Treat yourself.

Ingredients: Chinese green tea from Fujian Province, scented with jasmine flowers.

I’d never tried a butterfly style Jasmine previous to this, but have tried many types of pearls. I found the scent was mildy sweet and pleasing, but quite understated next to some of my favorites. I wonder if being in the shop – opened and closed many times – exposed them to too much fresh air. I brewed perhaps a dozen of these larger ties (compared to 25 typical pearls) in my 4oz Gaiwan and found leaving for a longer time didn’t accumulate too much astringency and I was able to get a nice – if light and mellow – sweet, Jasmine tea. I can’t say I was blown away, but there is nothing wrong with these, just that I’ve tasted more full and intense types. I was able to get 2 steeps with a reasonable amount of Jasmine, but by the third there wasn’t much left in them. I’ll keep my bag of these around to fill in when I run out of favorites, but I don’t think I’d re-buy.

I’m a fan of Silk Dragon Jasmine (DAVIDsTEA), so I figured I’d like this one. And I do, but maybe not quite as much. The jasmine note is definitely stronger in this tea. I think I like it just a little more subtle. But overall, an enjoyable, smooth, slightly astringent jasmine perfumed green tea.

This was right up my alley. light, floral, grassy, and delicate.
I discovered that it is especially nice with a bit of honey and some cream, thought it is also quite lovely on its own.

I thought I reviewed it. Oh well, I sipped it down and enjoyed it anyway, Evol. Thank you.

Starting off warm with a minute and 45, this was a lovely light and balanced Jasmine Tea with just enough natural sweetness to make my mother think twice about adding sugar. I did for her, but just a tip of a teaspoon. As for me, I finished off the almost creamy left overs of this floral tea and rebrewed several times iced. The umami of the green tea showed up a little bit in longer and later steeps leaving a welcomed hint of bitterness. I had this with a Bao Zhong following and I preferred this to a Baozhong. I know, blasphemy to the subtleties of tasting notes.

I was not enamored with this one mostly because I know what my favorites are, but this is not a mediocre Jasmine green by any means. There are a few nuances in the texture as it is smoother and slightly more sophisticated than usual. Know that this is not wasted on any drinker who likes this variety-I just hope Evol did not have to pay full price for it. I actually find myself missing the Toasted Walnut lately. I don’t need more tea and want only specific ones right now, but there is a David’s Tea four miles away from me on the other side of the border. I do live next to Sarnia, Ontario, SO…the temptation is there. All I have to do is drive through the border with my enhanced driver’s license.

I got a free cup of this today, and it was relatively good. It had a very light flavor, and a thick/smooth texture.
The jasmine was the predominant flavor, without overwhelming it. This is just because the green tea was so light (it actually looks and tastes a bit more like a white). After sitting for a while, it developed a natural sweetness that reminded me of marzipan.

Sipdown…

Number doesn’t change though because I forgot to add this one to my cupboard.

Drank it as a cold brew this time; it was smooth, and pleasant enough but honestly I felt like the nuance and quality was lost quite a bit in the cold brew compared to the hot cup. I think it’s definitely more worthwhile to consume this one hot for the amount of money you’re spending on it…

Also, somewhat exciting news! I’ve been asked to stay on at DAVIDsTEA as a P/T employee! It means I’ll still be working two jobs, and will continue to be very tired a lot of the time, but also it means I get to keep doing a job I love and taking advantage of that sweet, sweet employee discount! Hooray! I’m very excited, honestly.

It also means I can take my time with the last bit of project tea wall as well.

Friendly reminder that I do not numerically rate DAVIDsTEA blends as I’m currently employed there and it would be an obvious conflict of interest. Any blends you see with numerical ratings were rated prior to my employment there. These reviews are a reflection of my personal thoughts regarding the teas, and not the company’s.

Soon enough they’ll hire you FT at DT and you can quit the other job :)
Also, do you need to pay for drinks consumed on shift?

Roswell Strange

No – staff get free drinks on shift; you have to pay for them when you’re not working, although we do have a staff discount as well.

Indigobloom

That’s a pretty great perk!

Awesome! Congrats!

Tried this tea the other day at the store and it is sooo good. I wish it was a little cheaper, but at the price its still really good.

Totally recommend this.

This is so good I didn’t even realize it was a green tea. I thought it was a white tea. It tastes a tiny bit sweet (like what you expect from flowery or toasted teas) with a light to medium amount of jasmine flavour. The butterfly rolls are beautiful as the unravel and expand. What I appreciate most of that even though this is green, it is not leafy/stemy/grassy at all, no tastes of vegetal that I expect from most greens. It also isn’t astringent as some greens are prone to. I really enjoyed this and will be buying some more.
