Cinnamon Roll Honeybush

Sister was sent up for more work, and she got a cinnamon roll cheesecake slice for us to split, so I brewed this sampler I received from 52Teas at one point with an order to go with.

Tea has a strong cinnamon aroma, and I do think I am getting a little bit of a creme cheese aroma, albeit subtly. On the flavor, however, I’m only tasting honeybush and cinnamon; the cinnamon has a bit of a spice-bite to it, slightly peppery? Occassionally I get pepper notes in rooibos or honeybush, so that could be it, as well. Also some honey notes.

Wasn’t wild about this one, but enjoying it with company made it worthwhile.

Hmm this wasn’t quite what I expected, but it’s not bad. The flavor is mainly a light cinnamon with a woody honeybush and a bit of sweetness. There’s a little bit of icing flavor as well (if that’s not my imagination). The flavors are a lot subtler than I expected, and I’ve had versions of this tea from other companies that I preferred, but this is nice enough. I brewed the leaves a second time, and they were almost just as strong. So I’d say it’s a decent honeybush, but it doesn’t necessarily accomplish its flavor goal.

Welp, this is one I went straight for the “Single Splenda” treatment. I figured the Cinnamon Roll flavor would come out better with a bit of added sweetness. I will say even with the added sweetener, the cinnamon doesn’t come across as strongly as the honeybush. I can taste it, but the vanilla of the honeybush is stronger. I’m not getting any icing flavor here, but then I’m drinking it hot. I’m getting a strong woody flavor here as well, but that’s to be expected with the honeybush. It’s pretty tasty all things considered. Giving this one a strong Recommended rating. It’s a good rooibos blend. Not too artificial, just right with one splenda. Good stuff.

I’m not sure how I feel about honeybush, mostly because it’s been a long time since I’ve had any. It’s not a very common base for flavored tisanes, especially compared to the more popular rooibos.

The honeybush here has an interesting woody flavor, one that’s quite different from the woodiness of red rooibos. It’s almost peppery? I’m not sure how else to describe it.

The cinnamon flavor is surprisingly mild. I can taste a little bit of buttery or pastry-like flavor here as well. Overall, I’m just quite surprised by how subdued the flavoring is in relation to the honeybush base.

There’s also something here that’s adding some natural sweetness, perhaps it’s the cinnamon chips? It almost tastes like there’s a sprinkling of stevia, which I know there is not. It is a pleasant sweetness though, and doesn’t overwhelm the cup.

Overall, it’s perfectly pleasant to sip on. But for me, it’s not very memorable – it’s mostly a mild cinnamon honeybush.

Thank you to VariaTEA and Janelle who both sent me samples of this tea. I’m actually mixing the scraps of both to eke out one last cup today. It’s a little underleafed, but hey. I don’t know why I’m gravitating so much towards cinnamon-heavy teas at the moment, maybe it’s the snow making me want a warming tea, but I’m just going to roll with it. Sorry if everything I’m posting is the same. Anyway, I get a lot of the cinnamon in this, with a kind of brown sugar cakey aftertaste. Plain, the cinnamon is definitely the most prominent flavour, but I added a little sugar and the ‘roll’ notes of butter and Brown sugar came through a lot more. Cinnamon rolls are some of my favourite things in the world, so maybe I’m biased in saying that it doesn’t really totally convey all the flavours, but it’s still pretty nice.

I’m drinking the reblend version from the New 52Teas. :) This is a very tasty cinnamon honeybush blend – sweet and smooth and cinnamony. What I’m not really getting is any of the bread elements of the cinnamon roll. The honeybush provides a nice neutral-sweet base, but it’s not evoking baked goods for me at all. I’m also not really getting any of the frosting, even with a bit of sweetener added. I’ll have to try this again and shake the bag up a bit next time – maybe some ingredients settled to the bottom. It’s a tasty evening tea but not quite what I was hoping for. :)

Ah, how nice. My sense of smell was a little stronger today so when I brewed this up tonight I got a little whiff of the cinnamon. Such lovely weather for tea drinking and knitting! And this tea hit the spot tonight. In the beginning I wasn’t sure I would like honeybush, but man, it’s delicious!

YUM!!!! This has been hiding in my cupboard for a year. Why? I have no idea. I made a mug of this to take with me today since I can’t be sucking down loads and loads of caffeine. I think I was really scared of this tea because of the cinnamon. This is really good. If this were sold again I would definitely pick up a pouch of it. I could drink this quite a bit.

Anyway, not an amazing tea, to be honest. I think the cinnamon is a little overpowering, and I can’t really taste much else. On this last steep, I opted to add some milk, to see if it would make the icing pop a bit, but it just tastes kinda funny with the cinnamon note.

It’s not horrible, but nothing that is wowing me. I do thank VariaTEA for sending me this, as I’m always on the hunt for a good caffeine free blend, and I handle honeybush better than rooibos. Unfortunately, it’s just not a huge winner for me.

Okay, so the only tea from 52teas I actually own (And, I believe, the only one I had tried before this one) is Napalm Ferret. When I opened the bag of Cinnamon Roll and got a whiff, it smelled exactly like the Ferret. I was like “Why in the world does it smell like the Napalm Ferret???”. But then I realized that it’s the cinnamon that does it. Apparently this company uses very specific and pretty spicy cinnamon that you can recognize anywhere and that I am going to call Ferret Cinnamon from now on.

It was an enjoyable honeybush blend, I prefer my honeybushes and rooiboses citrusy and fruity, but a little bit of spice won’t hurt either. I did not get the “roll” part at all, however, and I did not find anything creamy about it.

I think I should just call it Ferret Cinnamon Honeybush instead, but not for long since I only have like a serving left, and I won’t be buying more any time soon.
