Cinnamon Roll Honeybush

I had a long forgotten sample of this in a trade from ??? It has been that long! When I brew this I smell light sweet cinnamon and faint pastry. First few sips are flat cinnamon with a doughy aftertaste. Probably not the best representation of this tea since it has been kicking around in a zip lock bag for who knows how long. Sweetening it perks it up a bit, but the taste keeps alternating between cinnamon roll and plastic bag. I know I tried this when I first got it, but failed to write any notes then. The cinnamon is done really well. It isn’t overpowering which is how cinnamon rolls taste to me. I could see this tea being pretty tasty, but I think I blew it with this sample.

Had this for breakfast this morning, and I still can’t seem to get the genuine cinnamon roll taste that others raved about so it was just meh.

This is interesting. There is cinnamon, and also an artificial sweetness that I’m sure is meant to mimic the icing on top of a cinnamon roll but is not a flavor I am enjoying in my tea. It is drinkable, and I have definitely had worse teas, but it’s not one I’ll be reordering.

Doctor Who sipdown. I so like the scent of cinnamon. Has a nice flavour, makes a good evening tea.

I added: Sugar.
Smell (dry): Sweet cinnamon. Smells just like a cinnamon roll, right down to the warm bready-smell. Lovely.
Smell (brewed): Like Christmas. (Well… it does! It smells like a cinnamon Christmas candle.)
Color (brewed): Red-gold. (If it’s more red, add water. If it’s more gold, add a tiny bit more tea or perhaps steep longer.)

Taste (plain): A bit harshly-cinnamony with a touch of sweetness. Just sort of okay unless you like strong cinnamon taste. I sort of think it has a sort of “dry” aftertaste that makes me feel like I was licking a cinnamon stick.

Taste (sugared): Lovely cinnamon-sugar taste. Sugar seems to smooth out the flavors.

When I tried it first, it was a bit too hot, a bit too strong, and a bit too cinnamon-y, so I’m afraid I can’t wax eloquent about the taste – I simply am not able to do more than say, “This is very nice with the sugar!” Maybe I’ll re-review this tea in a few weeks. (I’m not sure how Steepster works yet – but I would likely edit this post to add it to the end.)

Other comments: This is another of the flavors I purchased a few months ago… my records say December. It seems to have held up very well in the last 5 months and some.

After I finished my first cup, I read the first page of reviews for this tea here on Steepster and saw that someone didn’t like it until they’d let it steep for much longer than you’re “supposed” to. I tried that trick, but it’s probably a bit “too late” for my tastebuds tonight to taste subtle flavors. But I can say that I think that the taste comes through better after it’s had a chance to cool down a bit, so it won’t hurt for me to recommend you let it steep for longer.

Bonus! It’s caffiene free! Maybe I’ll actually get some sleep tonight…

Would I buy it again?: If it tasted like it smelled, I’d buy it every time. As it stands, it’s a solid “maybe” (as I’ve said 52 Teas has a lot of very interesting flavors to try). I’d probably crave it more around the start of the Christmas season, because it’s one of those sorts of teas.

Would I recommend it?: Well, it’s one of those, “was originally Limited Edition and now is standard edition” teas, so I know a lot of people must have liked it. If you like cinnamon or things that taste like Christmas, I say you should give it a try. :) If nothing else, it smells amazing!

I agree with the other reviewer who stated it doesnt appear to be vegan safe. I cant tell either way due to lack of information on the packaging of its full contents. It tastes good but can it hold up to its promises?

Much to my delight, I received my first 52teas order today from the cyber sale, and since it is evening, I settled on this lovely tea. My first cup I only really got a flat cinnamon taste. That was steeping at boiling for 7 min., w/ 2 teaspoons for 16 oz of water. I was def a bit disappointed.
Luckily on the second cup, I decided to try to steep it for 10 minutes, used 3 teaspoons and I added a splash of soy milk and a little Truvia- and it was a whole different cup of tea. I really thought it tasted more bakery cinnamon w/ the additional steeping, milk and sweetener. It had a hint of baked bread and brown sugar, but I didn’t really get the icing note at all. It has a very slight smokiness that makes it even more interesting. It smells more like a cinnamon bun than it tastes, but I thoroughly enjoyed it!

My first cup was kind of bitter and left an unpleasant aftertaste, which was disappointing! I was so excited to receive my 52teas package! Determined that it was my own fault, I tried manually boiling the tea in a pot so I could remove it from heat right before boiling, then let steep for 4-5 min. I’m not sure if this is what did it, but now it’s delicious haha!

My sense of taste is famously poor because I can’t smell, but even I could taste the cinnamon, and it feels full and buttery in your mouth. I can’t wait to try it with a little brown sugar and cream tomorrow. :-)

I wish I loved this one as much as everyone else, I truly do! It’s not a bad tea, but the cinnamon I’m getting is more reminiscent of red hots than cinnamon rolls, and that really throws everything off for me. I enjoyed the hint of frosting taste, though!
