I wanted an eggnog latte so I opened my black tea drawer to pick a tea and this caught my eye. However, somehow making this tea this way brought out note of the bergamot flavor. Bergamot and nutmeg. I also get the strawberry but that’s muddled under the bergamot and nutmeg. Clove and cinnamon peak through a bit too but not as heavily. It’s ok and 52 Teas has better bergamot flavor than most but I don’t think I would make this as an eggnog latte again.

Sipdown (295)

This was my random pick today and it was a single serving left so an easy sipdown.

It’s fudgier than it was as a latte and while that’s an improvement, this isn’t as good as caramel brownie. That tea had a similar fudgey note but more to it which made it more enjoyable.

Matcha Latte Sipdown (297)

This cooled before I drank it and it sort of bounced back and forth between sips full of sweet coconut and then sips of umami/grassy matcha.

There is a lot more nutmeg and custard flavors this time around and a whole lot of roasty brown rice notes.

Eggnog Latte Sipdown (299)

I had this a couple times where the base tea was stronger than the flavoring so I thought perhaps it had flavor deterioration from age. Except this is now super delicious and full of that awesome berry dessert flavor and that is making me super sad to say goodbye. This is like a deliciously creamy custard mixed with a raspberry-heavy berry coulis. Just rich and sweet and delicious. So sad to see this one go.

Sipdown but it turns out I never added this to my cupboard so still sitting at 300 teas.

In addition to this sample, which I have from Kittenna (thank you!), and Affogatea by Bird and Blend from July 2019, my oldest teas are the ones I bought in very large quantities when A Quarter to Tea went on hiatus. With that said, they should be what is going into my oldest tea box so I can actively sip them down. However, (1) they are too big to fit and (2) I don’t want to finish them since I am not ready to say good bye. I am thinking of skipping the August 2019 teas and throwing the September 2019 teas in the focus box instead.

This has been in a small ziploc bag for a year and a half and I feel like it suffered because of that. There is minimal flavor here. I can see it was probably custardy once but now it is sort of just a roundness in the mouthfeel than it is a flavor. The only flavor left is a sort of very generic fruity black tea. I’m sorry I left you for so long tea. I think you could have been good if I enjoyed you fresh.

Sipdown

This was the remaining tea for the CuppaGeek advent meant for New Years day. It’s god a hibiscus-berry flavor and perhaps some vanilla but I don’t get much in the way of cream.

Matcha Latte Sipdown (300)

So I realized after I finished Honey Dew Gelato that I didn’t put in my DAVIDsTEA order. Most of the purchase was restocking matchas I still had from the advent so the number didn’t really go up – though I do have more tea. So with this sample packet finished, I am back down to 300 teas.

This, like all the other Three 6 Teas, is from Roswell Strange. Thank you!!

I made this as a matcha latte. It certainly had a nice vanilla scent when steeping so going in, I hoped for the best. Drinking it, its just a smooth vanilla flavor. It’s pretty good. Rich and creamy and just vanilla. Not much to it beyond that but that’s okay.

Iced Tea Sipdown (300)

Happy New Year!!

I was so close to hitting 300 teas before the new year. I even had this made but didn’t end up drinking it until after the ball dropped. However, with this done, the only teas remaining in my stash are all from the second half of 2019 or sooner. The feels like an accomplishment.

I will miss this one. It’s rare that a tea can nail a flavor as subtle as honeydew but this does. It’s sweet and delicious but alas has suffered flavor deterioration so the green rooibos base also comes through. Still a great tea but one that I’m okay saying good bye to while it’s still holding up.

Yay, congrats! :D

That’s awesome — congrats!

Eggnog Latte Sipdown (301)

Had this earlier while playing pandemic with the family. We played 4 times because I refused to end off the year on a losing note.

This was good, per usual, but heavier on the coriander than usual. Personally I was okay with it but it wasn’t my favourite way to end off. This will be missed and it’s one I would consider restocking in the future if I see it. For now, I’m okay saying goodbye.

My cupboard has grown exponentially since joining this site and I have a lot to share. Feel free to snoop through my cupboard and message me if anything interests you – I am always happy to swap!

For me, flavored teas are definitely my sweet spot. I will most often reach for black teas and rooibos or honeybush blends but I do keep some flavored whites and greens around for when the mood strikes. I have a few herbals/tisanes but most of the time I find myself disappointed by them as they often smell deliciously sweet and then end up tasting tart/sour. I have a little bit of an aversion to pu’erh and oolong teas. I am also wary of florals, earl greys, and chai teas. I do not like overpowering citrus flavors nor do I usually like hibiscus, licorice or chamomile. I love dessert teas – caramel, vanilla, toffee, cookie, cream, and other sweet flavors make me smile. Fruits like strawberry, peach, mango, and pineapples will often catch my attention as well.

I have also realized that although I really enjoy adding frothed milk to some of my teas, if I do not like the tea with zero additives (just in plain water without milk or sugar), I probably won’t drink it. The one exception is flavored matchas which I will happily drink in cold milk if I do not like it mixed with hot water. My theory is if the tea can’t stand on its own then it is not for me and I will more than likely try to swap it out for something else.

Tea Ratings Guide (as of December 10, 2017)
90-100 Teas I NEED on hand at all times
80-89 Teas I want to keep around for a cup every now and then
70-79 Teas I am glad I have around and can experiment with but probably don’t need more than what’s in my cupboard
60-69 Teas I would not turn down a cup of from a friend but that would probably be enough
50-59 Teas I can see why someone would enjoy but are not for me
Under 50 Teas I really did not like and most likely got dumped
