Made this in one of my new T2 teacups and I know it’s in my head but I think that made this taste better. It’s got a nice strawberry candy flavor but the green tea base coupled with the currant is coming off sharp and drying. Still enjoyable enough though so thank you Roswell Strange for sharing!

Matcha Latte Sipdown (287)

I have been enjoying this one today. The butter element that seems to be so strong in the other Three 6 Tea caramel matchas is a bit muted here which allows the sweeter and more realized caramel notes to come through. There is also a touch of toastiness that you would get in a macaroon. I think I still prefer DAVIDs caramel matcha but this is a good alternative. Thank you Roswell Strange for sending these along!

I drank this last night and it was what I imagine orange hubba bubba would taste like. I feel like I didn’t love that but it wasn’t terrible.

Iced Matcha Sipdown (286)

I’m actually surprised this has pretty good lemonade flavor without adding actual lemonade to it. A touch of grassiness but mostly lemonade. Not really any raspberry flavor though and as I keep drinking, it is sort of chalky. I don’t know if it like it or not if I’m being honest but I think that’s just because my aversion of the grassy flavor of matchas.

Latte Sipdown (288)

My sister bought me a chai sampler pack and a black tea sampler pack from Vahdam for Channukah. Today I was sort of just relaxing on the couch after class. Together my brother-in-law and I watch Ratched and we had 3 episodes left so we binged them while my sister did some work. Then I realized it was after 4 pm and I hadn’t had a cup of tea. I wasn’t feeling my usual matcha latte today so I went for a chai latte instead.

I used the whole sample for the package. It was a weird amount of leaf that was just shy of what I would use for a 16 oz latte so I debated about making a 12 oz latte instead but just committed to the 16. Maybe I should have gone for the 12 oz though because this is a bit bland. I get cinnamon but its flat. Like I know there is spice here but its all muted. Perhaps the others will be more successful…

I cold brewed this for more than 24 hours because I got lazy and didn’t want to strain it last night. Today it had an interesting purple/grey color. However, I did not get a lot of flavor. Perhaps the slightest touch of lemon – as if I just put some sliced lemon into water. Otherwise, nothing. I will have to try this again with different methods.

drank Strawberry Matcha by DAVIDsTEA

Iced Matcha Sipdown (289)

This was the matcha that was in the advent the day that I build my tea cabinet. It was busy and I didn’t get to it then but it seemed like a good one to enjoy today. I have been having my matchas as lattes almost daily for a while now but decided to go different with this one. I think that was not the best choice.

I know I like this matcha. I do not like this iced matcha version of it. I get hit with sugar than strawberry candy than sweet grass. In that order. And its all a bit fake and gross. I have not had this issue before and I think maybe this flavor would have worked better hot or as a latte/iced latte. So now I know.

drank Cola Crush by DAVIDsTEA

Sipdown of the bag Roswell Strange shared with me but I have more in my stash so this number isn’t changing. Thank you Roswell Strange for the share and the chance to try this so I knew if I wanted more during it’s limited availability!

Today I made it as a teapop. It’s actually pretty close to a cola flavor, except the weird dollar store/off brand cola that could have been alright in a pinch as a kid but isn’t Coca Cola. Honestly for a tea , that’s pretty good.

drank Caramel Chai by Three 6 Tea

Matcha Latte Sipdown (290)

Three 6 Tea has a really buttery caramel flavor and I don’t know how much I like it. I am comparing it to the Salted Caramel Matcha that DAVIDs came out with last year and I certainly prefer the caramel flavor DAVIDs has to offer. That doesn’t mean this caramel is bad, its just very different and not particularly what I am looking for. It’s sweet and distinctively caramel but it coats your mouth and that caramel dissolves into a more butter-like aftertaste. I guess that makes sense though since butter is a key ingredient to caramel.

As for the chai, it really doesn’t make much of an appearance in this mug beyond cinnamon. It’s cinnamon butter caramel.

Cold Brew Sipdown (291)

This tea just has a slight rose quality to it. I really don’t get rhubarb or ginger. I am surprised because I really expected flavor and never seemed to be able to coax it out.

My cupboard has grown exponentially since joining this site and I have a lot to share. Feel free to snoop through my cupboard and message me if anything interests you – I am always happy to swap!

For me, flavored teas are definitely my sweet spot. I will most often reach for black teas and rooibos or honeybush blends but I do keep some flavored whites and greens around for when the mood strikes. I have a few herbals/tisanes but most of the time I find myself disappointed by them as they often smell deliciously sweet and then end up tasting tart/sour. I have a little bit of an aversion to pu’erh and oolong teas. I am also wary of florals, earl greys, and chai teas. I do not like overpowering citrus flavors nor do I usually like hibiscus, licorice or chamomile. I love dessert teas – caramel, vanilla, toffee, cookie, cream, and other sweet flavors make me smile. Fruits like strawberry, peach, mango, and pineapples will often catch my attention as well.

I have also realized that although I really enjoy adding frothed milk to some of my teas, if I do not like the tea with zero additives (just in plain water without milk or sugar), I probably won’t drink it. The one exception is flavored matchas which I will happily drink in cold milk if I do not like it mixed with hot water. My theory is if the tea can’t stand on its own then it is not for me and I will more than likely try to swap it out for something else.

Tea Ratings Guide (as of December 10, 2017)
90-100 Teas I NEED on hand at all times
80-89 Teas I want to keep around for a cup every now and then
70-79 Teas I am glad I have around and can experiment with but probably don’t need more than what’s in my cupboard
60-69 Teas I would not turn down a cup of from a friend but that would probably be enough
50-59 Teas I can see why someone would enjoy but are not for me
Under 50 Teas I really did not like and most likely got dumped
