Sipdown (206)

Thank you Sil for sharing! I made a cozy mug of this to go with my chocolate chip pancake breakfast. This complimented the breakfast well since it also has milk chocolate notes. One sip even gave me hot chocolate vibes. But on top of that it’s also malty and caramel and bready and delightful. Maybe even a touch of cinnamon. Am I imagining that last thing? Maybe. Probably. Who cares, I’m happy.

drank Boba Milk Tea by Dessert by Deb

Made this as an iced latte and it’s so weird because it actually tastes like an unflavoured boba milk tea. It’s got black tea flavour but is also creamy and has a bunch of brown sugar notes. Just needs the tapioca pearls…

Thank you Sil!

I decided to make this one today because I got cool new glasses but they aren’t double walled so I figured they may be hot and figured this wasn’t brewed at boiling so I could possibly still hold the cup. Check out the pic here: https://www.instagram.com/p/CVySPXJL1dB/?utm_medium=copy_link

That said the tea was alright but nothing special. Soft vanilla but a lot of green tea grassiness that I could live without. Fine but not a favourite so I enjoyed it while it lasted but likely won’t seek this out again.

drank Eggnog Matcha by DAVIDsTEA

My tastebuds are doing all sorts of crazy today because a lot of this latte was custard-y/eggnog, but some of it tasted like popcorn. That’s not right and that’s on me.

Cold brewed Unicorn Fluff vs. Lemonberry Whip by 52 Teas. Check out the tasting note for Lemonberry Whip here: https://steepster.com/rachel12610/posts/423884

If I’m being honest, Lemonberry Whip won but I finished it so this is moving on.

It’s cold brewed and alright but I find myself wanting more of the ginger burn I’m used to. Without the ginger to offset the marshmallow and fruit, this gets a bit flat and overly sweet. It’s not bad but the ginger is the best part of this. I think I may also prefer this hot but I’ll need to review my notes to be sure.

Cold Brew Sipdown (208)

I cold brewed the two teas in this round of my mini tournament. So today it’s Lemonberry Whip vs. Unicorn Fluff by The NecessiTeas. You can check out the tasting note for Unicorn Fluff here: https://steepster.com/rachel12610/posts/423885

If I’m being honest, this tea won the battle. But given that it’s a Sipdown, Unicorn Fluff is moving on by default.

I just love the soft and fluffy lemon. So light and lovely. Better got for sure but nice enough cold, albeit slightly bland and heavier rooibos flavour.

My cupboard has grown exponentially since joining this site and I have a lot to share. Feel free to snoop through my cupboard and message me if anything interests you – I am always happy to swap!

For me, flavored teas are definitely my sweet spot. I will most often reach for black teas and rooibos or honeybush blends but I do keep some flavored whites and greens around for when the mood strikes. I have a few herbals/tisanes but most of the time I find myself disappointed by them as they often smell deliciously sweet and then end up tasting tart/sour. I have a little bit of an aversion to pu’erh and oolong teas. I am also wary of florals, earl greys, and chai teas. I do not like overpowering citrus flavors nor do I usually like hibiscus, licorice or chamomile. I love dessert teas – caramel, vanilla, toffee, cookie, cream, and other sweet flavors make me smile. Fruits like strawberry, peach, mango, and pineapples will often catch my attention as well.

I have also realized that although I really enjoy adding frothed milk to some of my teas, if I do not like the tea with zero additives (just in plain water without milk or sugar), I probably won’t drink it. The one exception is flavored matchas which I will happily drink in cold milk if I do not like it mixed with hot water. My theory is if the tea can’t stand on its own then it is not for me and I will more than likely try to swap it out for something else.

Tea Ratings Guide (as of December 10, 2017)
90-100 Teas I NEED on hand at all times
80-89 Teas I want to keep around for a cup every now and then
70-79 Teas I am glad I have around and can experiment with but probably don’t need more than what’s in my cupboard
60-69 Teas I would not turn down a cup of from a friend but that would probably be enough
50-59 Teas I can see why someone would enjoy but are not for me
Under 50 Teas I really did not like and most likely got dumped
