Tea #42 from HHTTB2

This tea, once steeped, manages to smell both sweet and savory simultaneously. It actually smells a lot like the Egyptian Licorice tea from Yogi, but slightly deeper and more full. I think it’s the ginger and orange in both blends coming through, but it’s kind of weird.

They taste nothing alike though. The taste here is spicy and vanillay with a little orange. Definitely a rich, sweet blend. There’s also a roasted brothiness here, too. Like the other two Verdant blends, there’s a lot going on in the cup and it’s not necessarily something I like.

The berry and honey flavors are definitely strong enough in here to cover the base rooibos flavor. It’s sweet and jammy, and it definitely has a thickish honey feeling on the tongue.

And while the primary woodchip rooibos flavor isn’t really present, unfortunately, it does seem like the more medicinal flavors in the rooibos are bleeding through and pairing with the berry to make something that is definitely reminiscent of cough medicine. I’m not 100% on which is the worse flavor yet.

Tea #40 from HHTTB2

The leaves are quite small and broken, so I was unsure they’d stand up to a 6 minute infusion time as was recommended. So I erred on the side of caution, so keep in mind my review is for the tea at the parameters below.

This is the least rose-flavored of the three rose teas I’ve tried in the box. But it’s still quite good.

The primary flavor that comes through is the white base, which is delicate with fresh hay and apricot notes. The rose adds a definitely rose flavor as well as a gentle sweetness. It’s not nearly as immersive as other rose teas I’ve had, but good for those who enjoy the flavors of rose, but can find it overwhelming.

Tea #39 from HHTTB2

This tea fits the imagery of a forest grove in the fall impeccably. Minty and cooling, earthy and mulchy, with very slight fruit and spice notes. The star anise was a nice addition, offering a bit of Asian flair.

It seemed that the pu’er couldn’t really stand up against the sheer amount of other stuff going on in here, though. Every once in a while I thought I found it. Earthy and rich. And then just as soon it was gone. I felt like I was playing hide and seek with the actual tea component here.

This tea was not very good at all once it hit room temperature.

I can’t get over how sweet and creamy this is! This is amazing!

The leaves just smell sweet and vanilla-y. I want to fall into this cup and just chill for a couple hours.

All the flavors are in perfect balance. The bergamot isn’t overdone, but definitely has a refreshing punchiness. And the vanilla cream component is smooth and not at all artificial tasting. There’s actually a lingering creaminess after each sip!

When I run out of my current EGC you can bet this will be the replacement.

This is my all time favorite EGC. Love it.

keychange

I need to try some of this!

I know I LOVE the Creamy Earl Grey from David’s Tea
That WhiskeyBuzz sent me….my new FAVE
Please tell me what is your current EGC?

moraiwe

California Tea House’s Vanilla Cream Earl Grey. And only then because I got 4oz for free. Don’t get me wrong, it’s quite good. All the components are there and it’s vanilla-y and creamy. But this is definitely better.

CelebriTEA

Thank you.
I have never been to the Zen Tea site…
Do you have any other recommendations for them?

CelebriTEA

I just tried to look this up on their site and got “no results”

CelebriTEA

Thank you :-)

Veronica

CelebriTEA, I’m a big fan of the Strawberry Cream from Zen Tea. I think it’s out of stock right now, but I’ll definitely be picking up some more once they have it back on the shelf.

CelebriTEA

Just what I needed to know…sounds good

tigress_al

I really enjoy Toffee dream white tea from zen tea as well

CelebriTEA

That sounds good as well

Tea #37 from HHTTB2

First impressions: There’s a lot of stems in here, and I wish I could see big chunky blueberries. But alas.

The blueberry flavor is mediocre. It’s definitely blueberry, but it’s also just a little floral, bordering on soapy. The base is very faint, but definitely has a pretty typical White Peony type flavor — a little sweet, a little hay.

Definitely drinkable, but not preferable.

While the flavor is good, this is the gentlest breakfast tea I’ve ever had. It’s smooth with very subtle malt and natural sweetness; it would not take milk well at all.

I think this is an afternoon breakfast tea. Like, an ‘Oops. I just slept until 11, so I’ll have this with a cheese sandwich’ kind of tea.

Even though this is labelled Sweet Apple it still ended up being sweeter than I was expecting. The first sip made me grimace a bit (more of surprise than distaste), as the sip started as a pretty typical flavored black tea with light apple flavor then I suddenly wind end up with apple juice sweetness in the back of my throat.

Other then the initial surprise sweetness, this is an okay apple tea. The black base is unobtrusive, but unremarkable in flavor. It holds the cup together well. And the apples remind me of mushy baked apples, which, while not my thing, might be awesome for someone else. I need some clove and cinnamon when apples are played like this.

Mmm, this smells creamy and vanillay once it’s brewed up.

I totally don’t get any semblance of Toblerone here (I think it’s the complete lack of chocolate flavor), but what I do get is flan. Creamy, custardy, slightly caramelly, sweet, delicious flan.

The base is definitely rooibos, and the aftertaste is also definitely rooibos, but it’s a mild tasting version that melds with the flavor. This is so smooth and flavorful!

drank Cotton Candy by Della Terra Teas

Tea #33 from HHTTB2

I really want to find a sweet, desserty rooibos blend that I can drink at night while I read. Dry, this smells like sugar sweetened rooibos. Which, I guess if you want to get technical, exactly how a cotton candy flavored rooibos blend should smell. The sprinkles in here are really well-placed and add a bit of whimsy to a food I would call the same.

The cup tastes very much like rooibos, with sugar and vanilla added as an afterthought. If I take the sip fast, I can almost miss the rooibos in the cup though. It’s a light, sweet cup, but nothing special.

I’ll keep looking.

Name: Lauren
Location: Wisconsin (previously a Chicago girl)
Occupation: Student by day and super hero by night
Super Hero? Yep!
Which One? I can’t tell you that! Secret identities and such. Just know I’m not the hero they want, but the hero they need.
Sidekicks: Fiance and two budgies, Skitter and Gandalf

Hobbies:

Reading, writing, cooking, video games, computers, drawing, crafting, papercraft. Oh and tea.

A brief history:

I grew up in a family where the only working coffee maker was in my dad’s office. So the name of the game for my mother and I quickly became (bagged) tea. In 2004/2005, I discovered Adagio Teas. I don’t remember how it happened, or why I decided to pursue a purchase but here we are. I haven’t looked back.

My tea tastes have changed over time and I’ve moved from liking solely flavored teas (mostly black and white) to enjoying Darjeelings primarily, though malty unflavored blacks, fresh tasting greens, and lightly oxidized oolongs come in pretty high on my list, too. Of course, I still enjoy a good cup of flavored tea. I prefer caffeinated teas, as I have a horrible caffeine addiction that I don’t plan on kicking any time soon.

Red rooibos and lapsang souchong (or other strongly smoky teas) are my arch nemeses and I will see them defeated and removed by force from my cupboard. Like all thing, there are exceptions, but I assume they’re guilty until proven innocent.

I really don’t like negatively rating things, because I feel like if you don’t have something nice to say, you probably shouldn’t say it. But in the interest of non-biased tea reviews I’m going to give it a shot. I view every tea as a potential adventure so I’ll try most things at least once.

I love trading and swaps are always welcome! Please note, though, what it in my cupboard includes amounts ranging from a couple cups to 4 ounces or more, so please PM me to find out if what you’re seeking is available in that trade amount.

According to my spreadsheet, I also have about 100 other 1-4 cup samples that are not in my cupboard.. Feel free to message if you’re interested in see the spreadsheet for possible swap options as well.

Tea Ratings:

100-95 Nectar of the teagods that has been bestowed upon my unworthy tongue. I will never let this tin run empty.

86-94 These are the teas I would like to keep regularly stocked, but sometimes life gets in the way. Lovely teas, but not quite god tier. I still get cravings for these.

74-85 Good teas, but not amazing. I enjoy these, but may or may not restock once they run out. I would still recommend these to others.

60-73 Not bad. I’ll gladly keep drinking my cup, and wouldn’t say no if someone offered me this tea. I probably won’t rebuy these as there is likely something else that is comparable and better.

47-59 Certainly drinkable and might even have some characteristics that I enjoy, but I won’t pick it up again

30-46 I’ll probably finish my cup, but this tea isn’t to my taste OR it’s just overwhemingly mediocre. Life’s too short for bad tea.

11-29 This cup is in the sink now and I will never willingly consume this again. If you see a tea rated this way, I probably followed it with mouthwash.

0-10 Please say a prayer for the cup I destroyed in the process of disposing of this tea in the quickest manner possible. I may need tea therapy before I drink a similar tea again.
