183 Tasting Notes
I was a bit disappointed in this. It dry tea has a touch of a sour milk smell. Brewed, it tastes like a milky oolong. I don’t get coconut at all, unfortunately.
Pros: no astringency and a mild milky taste (it doesn’t taste as sour as it smelled).
Cons: I bought it for the coconut, and didn’t taste any.
Preparation
I wasn’t able to pick up my Tealux order at the post office until 8:30 tonight, so it was too late to try any of my new white or oolong teas. I decided to start with a rooibos instead.
There’s a definite fruity smell to the dry tea, but I honestly don’t think I’d call it raspberry-smelling. Brewed, it’s got a definite rooibos taste followed by a strange aftertaste.
It’s different, but not in a way that makes me want to drink more. I think this one’s going into my trade/give away pile. Someone who likes fruit and rooibos might like it.
Preparation
I have banana and coconut teas I enjoy, so I gave this one a shot. The rooibos base is smooth and not overpowering. The taste is primarily chamomile with a hint of banana. I don’t taste coconut at all.
Overall, not bad, but not amazing, either. I’m happy I got the sample size.
Preparation
My winner so far today. The spices combine well with the green tea, so neither is overpowering. No astringency. It’s an easy, soothing tea to drink.
I’m really glad I like this, as I discovered I accidentally purchased it twice.
Preparation
I decided to give this one another shot, as I’m trying to drink down some of my samller amts of tea.
I steeped it for 2 min at 80C, which is what the SA had written on my bag (crossing out the original 3-4 min and 92C recommendation). It was more astringent than I remembered, and although I can smell apple, I can’t taste more than a hint of it.
Yuck. I’m lowering my rating on this. I can’t picture drinking it again.
Preparation
It’s properly named. There really is a honey-like taste to the tea. Unfortunately a bitter/astringent taste followed it. The sweet/bitter mix was a bit too much for me. It wasn’t horrible, but I didn’t particularly want to finish drinking it, either.
Oversteeping and not sweetening could have been part of the problem. The only other mates I’ve had a lot of are Chocolate Rocket and Chai Amazonia, and I’ve let both steep for a looong time and don’t sweeten either. Neither suffers for it. Maybe Honey Bee does.
I have enough in my sample to make a couple more cups. I’ll try it again, steeping for the recommended time and maybe adding a sweetener.
Preparation
This now holds the position as my favourite ‘fruity’ oolong. Honestly, pineapple and oolong sounded weird to me, so I picked up a 10g sample to try. I got one large (probably 12 oz) cup out of the 10g.
The first steep smelled amazing. The pineapple was definitely present. It didn’t have the artificial taste some fruit-flavoured teas have. The oolong used worked well with the pineapple and apricot.
Second steep wasn’t as potent. Drinkable, but a lot of the flavour is gone.
If I were able to get multiple steeps out of it, I’d likely stock up. As it is, it’s a bit pricey for a one steep wonder.
