2201 Tasting Notes
I’m not actually drinking this one (#65), but I wanted to give it one last note before I removed it from my cupboard. I gave the last of it to Equusfell because she fell in love with it, but before that I was cold brewing it regularly. Which was totally delicious. I have found that while I am not huge on green teas hot, I almost prefer to black tea when iced. I’ve been starting to drink more iced black tea and I think I prefer the how light and refreshing green teas are when cold. Anyway, I did really love this one as a cold brew.
Love this tea (#66) so much. It will always be one of my faves. Lemony and creamy with caramel… like the best lemon bars that just happen to have toffee on them. Yum. This is one I definitely do crave fairly often.
Preparation
My numbers now mean nothing because I added a bunch of stuff to my cupboard that I didn’t have in there before, but oh well. I guess I will go into negatives when I get to the bottom.
This tea (#67) is my most floral of floral teas. It is seriously like a bouquet. I love florals but I don’t crave this one often. Maybe I will more in the spring.
Preparation
There are a lot of greens and oolongs in this section of Dammann teas in my cupboard. I think maybe because a lot of the black teas got consumed already. I do have a bit of this one (#68) left! Om nom, figgy deliciousness. I love this tea, although in keeping with my recent trends I rarely crave it since it is a single-flavor tea. But still, delicious.
Preparation
As happens with all my ginger lemon teas, I’ve started to associate this one (#69) with digestive issues and feeling unwell. Which is acutally fine right now because I ate some intensely spicy drunken noodles for lunch and I think my gut could use some calming. This is more lemony and less gingery, but overall tasty and soothing. I accidentally made it with boiling water instead of 195°F, and it doesn’t seem to have suffered. (I have done a lot of steeping of green oolongs at boiling lately, they seem to be rather more robust than most people think).
Preparation
At some point the description for this tea got update to something that I’m not sure where it came from (cause it’s not the DF website). It confused me at first, because it listed all tropical fruits and such. Because while it does have pineapple in it, it isn’t a tropical tea.
This one (#71) is very floral but with definite creamy-cookie notes from the chocolate, “cereals,” and coconut milk. It’s a wacky blend, honestly. I’m not sure it works quite as well as some of their other floral-fruit-biscuit blends, maybe because of the really odd florals (i.e., tomato flower). But it is tasty, nonetheless.
Preparation
I would be lying if I said I wan’t excited to get to this part of my cupboard. Almost a full page of French teas, ahh. These come from a trip to Paris I made two summers ago. They could go in almost any order but I will drink them in roughly the order I added them to my cupboard.
This tea (#72) is a long-time favorite. I love the mix of florals and fruity, and the strong figginess of it. There are seven flavors here, but I would say the dominant are rose and fig. Ok, and maybe the citrus. But on the whole the blend is amazing and always has new flavors to peek out in each sip.
Preparation
I don’t really know why my pouch of this tea (#73) was totally unopened. I think I ordered more of this when I could since it was a Reserve tea, and I guess I finished off my reserve package (?). Or it’s hiding somewhere. Anyway, this tea! I think it is possibly creamier and sweeter than the other Master Zhang Gande TGY I just drank, with fewer floral and fruity notes. (I know I didn’t mention fruity notes in the review I just posted for the other one, but in hindsight, and in comparison to this one, there were hints of apricot, perhaps. This one is definitely less vegetal. It almost reminds me of ATR’s Milk Oolong now that I think about it (although I do get fruity peachiness from that one), which is a high-elevation TGY so I guess that makes sense. Anyway, this tea is freaking amazing. No wonder it was a reserve tea.
Preparation
I drank this tea (#74) a few times in the last week. I had a gongfu session with it over the weekend, drank a western brew a couple of days ago, and finished it off this morning in another western brew. Every session was very enjoyable. Sweet and floral and buttery, with bit of a vegetal grounding note. Still delicious, but I’m glad I finished it up as I have a pouch of the 2014 picking too!
Many thanks, my friend! Once I order a large amount of this, I will try cold brewing.
