drank Noël à Prague by Dammann Frères
2201 tasting notes

Mmmm, time for an order of DF teas. And I get to start with one of my favorites (#40). I love the blend of caramel and fruit and general deliciousness here. Not sure why these flavors go with Prague (I will always think of the almond-cinnamon-sugar spit-roasted pastries called trdelnik), but I had a great time in Prague so it’s nice to have a yummy tea to remind me of it.

Boiling 3 min, 0 sec 2 tsp 12 OZ / 354 ML

I love how you love DF so much haha. I was going to wait until xmas to order their calendar but you’re unintentionally nudging me to just do it sooner than that.

Dinosara

Haha, I am totally Steepster’s No. 1 Dammann fangirl. :D

I think k it’s because around Christmas that you often see this plum and vodka filled chocolates in that part of the world if the stocking at the European Deli is to be believed:-)

drank Milk Oolong by American Tea Room
2201 tasting notes

Om nom, om nom nom. This tea (#41) is so different from the Jin Xuan Milk Oolong that I had this morning, but both are delicious in their own ways. This one is super sweet and creamy, and also has fruity notes, unlike the florals from the Jin Xuan. Peaches and cream, for sure. I still really love this one. Every time I brew it I wonder if I could use more oolong-like steeping parameters, but this tea is so expensive I don’t really want to waste a cup mucking around with something that already works. Maybe someday I will be brave enough to try.

175 °F / 79 °C 2 min, 0 sec 2 tsp 12 OZ / 354 ML

Blergh. The last time I had this tea (#42), I thought it was very tasty. Today, not so much. I am leaving the rating in the mid-80s since apparently I am fairly schizophrenic about this tea. I really think that it’s mostly that my tastebuds have decided that Taiwanese blacks are not the teas for me.

Just noticed that the last tea I drank was a Jin Xuan (milk oolong), this one is a Jin Xuan (black tea), and the next tea on my list is actually another milk oolong (but a TGY). What a weird spot in my cupboard.

Another Teavivre tea that I had twice. They really are just too delicious! This one (#43) is different from a lot of other Milk Oolongs, but it is sweet and creamy, and just a bit floral, nonetheless. It’s a robust tea and can take being western-brewed at boiling as well as a cooler temp.

Also, I has a sad because yesterday I broke one of my DavidsTea Perfect Mugs, the design from several falls ago with all the forest animals on it. :( They need to put out another design with owls so I can replace it.

I hate breaking tea ware. It happens to me far too often!

I drank this next one (#44) yesterday, and then again this morning, and I almost let today get away without a note for it. But not so! Here it is, short and lame though it may be (I have been effusive about this tea in the past). It was deliciously sweet both times. LOVE.

And now we will have a short interlude of unflavored teas, starting with this one (#45). I crave unflavored teas less these days than I used to, but I do still enjoy them when I have them. This one is a touch earthier than I remembered it being, but not enough to put me off. Especially as it cools, it becomes more and more chocolatey, although I am not getting the sweetness. Still, tasty enough. 5 pearls in 12 oz of water.

This is incredibly unseasonal for a warm, spring-y day like today, but it is next so there you go. Actually some reserve yabao is next but I am unlikely to be gongfu-ing before the weekend so it is being (temporarily) skipped. Which should make this one #46.

Unseasonal, but delicious. I get kind of bored with Christmas-spices type teas but LB keeps this interesting. I kinda wish they would bring this one back at least at holiday times. Ah well, I have probably half an ounce of it anyway so it will probably take me forever to get through it.

I made this tea (#48) and then almost immediately had to leave the building because of a fire alarm. Turned out to be optimal. This is one of those teas that is really best once it cools waaaaaay down, to the point that it is only lukewarm. Then it is full of sweetness and caramel and tasty. Until then those flavors are hidden behind roasted vegetables. Still not my favorite oolong but reasonably tasty nonetheless.

195 °F / 90 °C 3 min, 0 sec 2 tsp 12 OZ / 354 ML

This is a tea (#49) I should definitely be drinking more often. It is too amazing not to drink all the time. I mean, who doesn’t want to drink coconut cookies? Well, probably some people, but I am all for it. Delicious. I sucked it down pretty quickly.

Preparation
190 °F / 87 °C 3 min, 0 sec 2 tsp 12 OZ / 354 ML

drank L'Anniversaire by Fauchon
2201 tasting notes

This is a Fauchon tea (#50) that I bought kind of on a whim, because it was there, and I thought it might be fine although the flavors didn’t really call to me. It seems like a tea I wouldn’t like all that much (I don’t usually do mint, and never with fruit), but somehow the raspberry and mint actually work together here. I think it’s the sizeable helping of creamy vanilla that smooths it all out and brings it together. I definitely don’t regret buying it.

Profile

Bio

I am tea obsessed, with the stash to match. I tend to really enjoy green oolongs, Chinese blacks, and flavored teas with high quality bases, especially florals, bergamot-based teas, and chocolate teas.

In my free time I am a birder, baker, and music/movie/tv addict.

Here are my rating categories, FYI:
100-90: Mind-blowingly good, just right for my palate, and teas that just take me to a happy place.
89-86: I really really like these teas and will keep most of them in the permanent collection, but they’re not quite as spectacular as the top category
85-80: Pretty tasty teas that I enjoy well enough, but definitely won’t rebuy when I run out.
79-70: Teas that I would probably drink again, but only if there were no preferrable options.
69-50: Teas that I don’t really enjoy all that much and wouldn’t drink another cup of.
49 and below: Mega yuck. This tea is just disgusting to me.
Unrated: Usually I feel unqualified to rate these teas because they are types of teas that I tend to not like in general. Sometimes user error or tea brewed under poor conditions.
