One of Twinings best. Subtle smoky fragrance and a solid black brew.. Some say a tobacco fragrance as well, I wouldn’t argue with that. Best to leave for 4 minutes or longer if you like it stronger. Very nice.

Bold? Depends what your measuring. As far as flavor is concerned there is nothing bold about this. I can’t detect any flavor (Hello flavor.. Where are you?), and I don’t use much milk.. Tasteless and very disappointing. I won’t trust the Twinings strength meter ever again (first world problems lol).

Wow, this actually tastes like gingerbread! Not overly gingery (the same as I find gingerbread) and instead, nicely spiced and bready. I wasn’t really expecting to like this, honestly, but it was a nice surprise! I just kind of wish the base was something other than green (maybe oolong?!) – not that it affected the flavour, I just have a bias against flavoured greens because they’re finicky. Thanks for sharing this, MissB!
Tried this at work since I saw the box in the cupboard. I boiled the water, let it cool off for longer than needed (I was busy at the desk- I probably let it cool for 30 min until it was more warm than hot), then steeped for about 1 min. When I got to drink it it was warm, not hot. But, it was not bitter at all and there was a good amount of jasmine flavour that came through. For a bagged tea, I was overall impressed. I do wonder, though, how this tea would hold up even under 160 degree F water, which is the lowest setting on my variable temp kettle (as in, would it get bitter fast due to it just being fannings?). Perhaps I should sneak a bag home and give it a try..

I’ve simultaneously been drinking this and Bear Flag’s rosé. Not exactly the most sensical pairing but one is a tasty summer drink and the other is like a fall hug. This tea is the hug, of course. It is spot on for gingerbread – bready, sweet, gingery, and surprisingly warming. It’s teas like these that will slowly spark my passion for tea again. At least I hope that’s the case.
I am actually really impressed because this is 100% gingerbread for me. I was worried it would be just a ginger tea but this is like a liquid cookie and it is delicious. Thank you MissB for the share! This is one I might actually seek out while in London because it is really nice.
Sipdown! (30/368)
Hello steepster! So it’s been another month again! I knew I wasn’t going to have much time for steepster of late, but am hopefully going to be able to write up notes more often now. I’ve had to admit defeat and apply for extenuating circumstances with my remaining work, which means that if it’s granted I won’t be graduating this summer, but in November instead. ):
I’m moving out of my student flat at the end of June, and want to have less tea to pack when I do move, so I’m going to be concentrating on sipping down a lot of teas! This was one, because I’d been saving the last bag to review and the box was taking up room. It had been a while since I drank this tea, and was actually only down to the bottom of the box because I’d been palming it off on Frank, so I couldn’t really remember how it tasted. The bright red liquid and slightly sour smell instantly screamed ‘hibiscus’ to me, and I added a sweetener stupidly without trying the tea first. This was a mistake. The tea was so sweet I could barely bring myself to drink it! Had it not been the final cup I think it would have been dumped. Blech. Although having said that, had I not added the sweetener I think this would have been very pleasant. It’s not often I come across a bagged fruit tea which isn’t overwhelmed by hibiscus. The strawberry comes across strongly and is very much at the fore of the sip, with the mango being almost undetectable – merely a whisper in the background. It does add another dimension to the tea than if it were simply a strawberry tea, but I’m not entirely convinced that it’s a dimension that I like, or is needed. The flavours also come across as somewhat artificial, which I’m not too surprised about from a basic Twinings tea. I actually think this would be quite enjoyable if I wasn’t so spoiled by good teas, and Frank seemed to like them.Preparation

Twinings suggested that if I like a stronger flavour, let it steep for longer than 4 minutes. Well, I think I’ll just do that. Did a tea no-no, and left the tea bag in the cup, and didn’t find any adverse effects from doing that. Tart green apple flavour is on point. This is quite tasty, and the next time I’m in the grocery store, I just might pick some up!
How i got it: Tried it and got a bag from my sister-in-law house, beginning this year
Experience: It has a nice and very natural aroma, something that’s not always the case in berries-flavored teas. Maybe I could describe it as a mix between La Teteria’s Berries Silvestres and Basilur’s Winter Tea, in the sense that the main scents seems to be the strawberry and the blueberry ones. In the taste side, the sip begins with a mild acidic touch that introduces a mix of strawberry, raspberry and, as other users noticed too, some apple-like notes of flavor. Simple taste, mainly well-defined and relatively lasting (the aftertaste tends to a flavorless, watery sensation). As I’ve said other times, I’m not really a fan of tart blends, but despite that, this tea managed to be slightly above the average.
Would i buy it?: It wasn’t that bad, but my answer would be ‘no’.
Grocery store teas often deserve more credit than they are sometimes granted by those who graduate to better teas. Are there better Earl Grey teas out there? You bet. Is this, when doctored up a bit with some cream and sugar, a reasonable tasty beverage? It is.
Disclaimer out of the way, this Earl Grey has just enough of a (vaguely lemon’ish) bergamont to carry a single steep in a small cup. After that you’re left with a one-note black with very little aroma and too much astringency.
Once again, it is time for purse sample teabag day!
I was not expecting it to stay cool and overcast today, so the large jug of iced tea I cold brewed the night before was just not doing it for me. I pulled this one out on a whim and brewed it up.
The black tea base is so nonexistent it makes me so sad. I do get some astringency in this brew. The orange is a very familiar orange. Think orange hard candy, not the fruit. 5 or 6 years ago, I would have gone grapenuts for this tea. I used to love the combination of orange and black tea. I think I still would if it was a better tea with natural citrus/raisin/cocoa notes, and a better flavoring.

Brewing tea aroma has a pineapple-tropical fruits aroma
Good pineapple flavour. Interesting mouthfeel that I would describe as “slippery”. Good balance of flavour. Lychee note present. Flavour is a bit dilute.
Thanks to MissB for sharing with me!

Sipdown (109)!
From the lovely MissB! This wasn’t in the Steepster database so I just whipped up a very quick page for it – maybe I’ll add a picture later? It’s looking pretty sparse though…
I added some milk to mine because what goes better with chai than milk!? I think it might have been too much though ‘cause I had a very hard time picking out any of the notes from the tea itself. Some cinnamon, maybe a bit of ginger? But it mostly faded into the milk I’d added. Not a memorable experience; probably my own fault though so I’m not gonna rate this one…
I have an uneasy tummy so I brewed a cup of this tonight. It’s hard to go wrong with peppermint, and Twinings has a very decent herbal peppermint tea. Nothing fancy or expensive, just good evening tea after one overeats. I’m not sure the more expensive loose leaf teas are any better than this plain workhorse of a bagged tea.
What a horrible, absolutely rotten, day at work. I cried, literally, at my desk. Some of you might remember that Research Assist where the pharmacy is insisting they should be paid? I sent proof the beneficiary was admitted to the hospital and that the pharmacy would have to submit to receive payment from the proper Medicare carrier. Now they’re coming back and saying that’s not valid; the patient was never there.
I’m like, EXCUSE ME? What the he…? Do you think I hired a forger?
Can you believe that? I have emailed the situation to the adjudication team to see if they have encountered this before. I have run out of options. If Adjudication has nothing, then the next thing this pharmacy will need to do to get their $38.00 is file a Congressional Inquiry. Yeah, bring it up to your congressman or woman.
This whole business made me cry and then my tummy got queasy. Either the stress is getting to me or I’m getting sick. Could be either one. I drank my last cup of this and I did feel a little better. I don’t hate my job (although I did toy briefly with the idea of putting in my notice) but some days it’s just not worth the stress. I’m switching now from tea to booze.
I’m sorry. That sounds like a truly rotten day. I’m glad the tea helped, and I hope whatever you’re drinking now is helping, too. <3
Ugh, the American “health care system” makes me crazy and sad. Sorry you’re having to deal with all this stupidity. Hope tomorrow is a better day!
I really over ate at Mom’s Thanksgiving dinner. It’s been hours and my tummy is still uncomfortable, so Peppermint tea to the rescue!
This was my last tea bag of this. I’m not supposed to buy any tea until after Christmas but I may make and exception for this. I mean, everyone ought to have some peppermint tea on hand, right?
I had this one before bed lsat night. The teabag was convenient, and the tea was nice. I really like a good peppermnt herbal tea. I’m not sure how this one stacks up to other mint teas. This one is nice because of the individually wrapped bags which make it easy to carry in your purse or keep in your work desk. As far as I can tell the flavor is good. It doesn’t stand out as a fantastic cup, but neither do I have any complaints. For a bagged tea this one is pretty nice.
