I love crème brulee. My all time favorite dessert! My now husband made this for me before he proposed! (he makes the Alton Brown recipe btw). I also bought my husband a crème brulee ramekin kit and blow torch (from the hardware store) as a house warming gift for me to enjoy. I saw Red Leaf Teas had this in matcha form, oh totally getting it!

Specs on the matcha I’m drinking:
Crème Brulee Matcha
http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/creme-brulee-matcha.html
Matcha Quality: Classic (basic grade)
Flavor: Robust (because I love crème brulee!)

Out of the package, the first smell reminded me of that spun sugar smell like on Croquembouche, weird that I thought of that first instead of the blow torched topping on creme brulee! The smell of the matcha powder is very strong, caramel sugary.

I felt I should just go straight to making an iced latte, my favorite way to make a flavored matcha. 1/4tsp of creme brulee matcha and a bit of sugar whisked in some soy milk. The result, a very custardy matcha! The matcha also leaves an extra creamy feeling after my sip. The creme brulee latte tastes slightly eggy, not as eggy as Red Leaf’s “eggnog matcha” but more custardy buttery than “bavarian cream”. Creme Brulee matcha is very smooth and creamy too. Drinking it, I could almost sense the texture of an actual creme brulee custard.

Unfortunately, the only thing I’m missing in this matcha is the blow torched sugar top taste. I’m not sure if it needs more extra sugar, or it’s just a hard flavor to dupe plus its lots of texture.

Overall, pretty good, but I really want that sugar topping! Now I got images in my mind that I can have creme brulee whenever I want that isn’t 500 plus calories. Maybe spear in some caramelized sugar pieces for a nice visual or stir stick for my matcha.

I love creme brulee too. I have this tea waiting for me to try … hopefully will get to it sometime this coming week.

Indigobloom

maybe try caramelizing some sugar in a pan and then add that to your matcha? ohhh man I’m tempted to get some just to try it!

For my reward for posting reviews to the Amazon UK site, I got to select three flavors of Matcha, in any base and flavor intensity that I wanted. Awesome prize, right? I thought it was going to be an amazing, ultimate custom blend of this Belgium Chocolate, Caramel and Cheesecake flavors in the black base, and thinking I was going to have the ultimate chocolate caramel cheesecake Matcha latte, but instead, Red Leaf Teas was even more awesome by sending them in their own, separate, individual packages so that I could try them each on their own before I mixed them up! I also like this because I can adjust the ratios the way I see fit.

The specifications for this Matcha are the Black base Matcha, which I previously reviewed here: http://sororiteasisters.com/2011/11/05/organic-black-matcha-from-red-leaf-tea/ and can be obtained in its pure form here: http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/black-matcha.html I then selected the Belgium Chocolate flavor at robust level of flavoring, which is available here: http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/belgium-chocolate-matcha.html I chose the robust level of flavoring with the black tea base because I figured with the stronger flavor of the black tea, I needed to have a big boost of flavor.

And this combination is amazing together. It tastes like hot chocolate, only better. Sweet, chocolate-y and rich … and the bold flavor of the black tea – which is slightly malty and smooth, with hints of a caramel-y undertone – and the robust chocolate create a very full-flavored bowl of Matcha. I tried it first prepared “traditionally” with hot water (using hotter water than I would with green Matcha, of course) and whisking it, and it tasted really good, but, I thought it could use a little creaminess to it, so I added a splash of milk (I didn’t warm it), and frothed the mixture with my hand-held frothing tool. It had a little bit of froth, not quite as much as I normally achieve with a green Matcha and a bamboo whisk… since I used my frother and since this is a black tea, I can’t figure out which change resulted in less froth, but, froth isn’t the only reason I drink Matcha so I’m not too worried about it.

The water-prepared Matcha has a slight perfume-y/chemical-y scent and taste, but with the milk, this taste is muted to the point where it is barely noticeable. Sure, I’d rather it not be there, but, I find so much that I DO like about this Matcha that I’m not going to dwell on the one thing that I do not. I look forward to the blending opportunities with this, as well as just drinking it on it’s own. It’s yummy!

PS: Thank you so much Red Leaf Tea for this amazing prize. I am so thrilled!

The immunizer.

Do you know about noni? This superfruit is widely used in alternative medicine to treat various ailments *, and as evidenced by a Mayo Clinic research, has great antifugal properties.

(Arthritis, atherosclerosis, bladder infections, boils, bowel conditions, burns, cancer, chronic fatigue syndrome, circulatory weakness, colds, cold sores, constipation, diabetes, drug addiction, eye inflammation, fever, fractures, gastric ulcers, gingivitis, headaches, heart disease, hypertension, improved digestion, immune weakness, indigestion, kidney disease, malaria, menstrual cramps, menstrual disorders, mouth sores, respiratory disorders, ringworm, sinusitis, skin inflammation, sprains, strokes, thrush, and wounds.)

I have never tasted fresh noni. Not only because I live so far north it would be virtually impossible to obtain (without some sort of patenting), but also because it is said to taste conspicuously evil. Does that mean noni matcha is a bland experience? Red Leaf probably has a secret lab when they test all sorts of things and ingredients, where they took care of that one.

The taste ressembles that of guava and dragonfruit. It is relievingly exotic and sweet, albeit tart. It must be fun in smoothies and desserts. I don’t really have anything to compare it to. Try it here:

Thanks AGAIN to Azzrian

I don’t know why – but – upon first sniff – this smelled like Lambrusco! Not sure why but it was an intriguing aroma regardless.

This froths-up real nice!

After adding water it still smells like a dry-wine but more subtle.

I know I am sounding like a broken record here but this is TASTY!

This has a more mellower flavor than some of the other flavored matchas but it seems to work really well! It’s slightly sweet and quite creamy-smooth. It’s comforting! I can taste a sweeter – more than a more tarty or bitter – Currant Flavor. It’s subtly-juicy.

Yup! A nice comparison and alternative to a wine…this flavored matcha!

Another winner!

OOPS! I listed this under Cranberry! DUH! TGIF!!!!

Azzrian Thanks!!
Dry – this smells like the equivalent of CHERRY SMARTIES
After adding the water it was a sweeter but less sugary type CHERRY aroma – juicy and plump.

The taste of this is really wonderful! Out of this world! It exceeded my expectations! Delicious, juicy-sweet, but also smoother than I thought it would be and the flavoring is ‘just right’ – it’s not over done! Juicy! I keep coming back to this word but it’s true!

This is pretty awesome!

Tale of the dream matcha.
I like this. I like this alot.

Please note that white tea AND white chocolate are two of my favorite things so I might be biased.
Actually, if you relatively friend me through various websites by now you have noticed how clear it is that I love
and am addicted to those two things.

As I was browsing through Red Leaf’s website (with a digital free matcha coupon in equally digital hands) I had the spiffy idea to acquire
the dream matcha. Something that just really (albeit narcissically) tells about me. Additionally, I also wanted something that tastes incredibly
right. Red Leaf seems to do that proficiently. I have not to date tasted any of their matchas that I did not like.
They are a growing brand that happens to be able to produce a white matcha.

Aptly. I did not feel a huge difference between the original and the white matcha, but the color. Be prepared to drink something that
is ash grey. I am totally okay with that.
The taste is something more thirst-quenching and creamy, as white tea usually is. With a touch of malt.
It is also quite sweet but least not forget I chose the white chocolate flavoring. The rendering of the white chocolate is pretty true.
It tastes like the Lindt white chocolate bar with the mousse center. I know, I cannot make a review without the use of some sort of analogy
or reference to some product. Bad, bad me. But I am just trying to efficiently get you to understand how perfect and awesome this is.
This needs to be turned into a fluffy, frothy and light milk/soy shake, asap.

and and and… You should get it.

This is very buttery and smooth. Sweet and decedent! The flavor is mostly the creme brulee custard rather than the burnt sugar topping but it is delicious nonetheless!
I do get the burnt sugar flavor more on the after taste.
Very nice!

CHAroma

OMG!!!! I just had a citrus vanilla orange creme brulee a few days ago. *mouthwatering :), (That’s a smiley face with drool). TO DIE FOR!!! MUST HAVE THIS MATCHA!!!

Azzrian

HELLO THAT SOUNDS AMAZING! I am going to try to recreate that with matcha!!! WOW YUM! Thank you!

HOLY MINT, Batman!
Thanks to my Sororitea Sista Azzrian for this one, too!

Many of you know how I LOVE mint! Well, this Mint flavored matcha takes it to the NEXT level! POW! POP! PUNCH! BAM!!!!

MINT!

HELLO! Mint! Mint! MINT!
LOVE THIS!

It smells like mint but the taste is actually MORE intense than the aroma! PURE MINT!

The powerful 1-2 punch of MINTY goodness deserves HIGH RATINGS in itself! This is down right marvelous!

BUT…you have to LOVE mint! Thank goodness…I DO! This is – dare I say – perfect!?

I can’t think of a more minty Matcha – so – until then I must give it a 100!

Sure, I like the Wintergreen Matcha, too, but it does taste just like those wintergreen lifesavers – which even tho they are minty-fresh – I perfer this one over that one…mostly because this just seems like straight-up MINT – extract, perhaps?

Excellent!

Azzrian

LOL Im tickled you love it so much! :)

TeaEqualsBliss

:) I DO!!! LOVE IT! THANKS AGAIN!!!

Bonnie

wow, proof you do love mint!

Denise @ Nature's Tea Leaf

Is this a peppermint or spearmint. I’m curious to try but I love peppermint and HATE spearmint.

Just curious…how do you make your matcha? I’ve been trying to get different opinions because I haven’t fallen in love with mine yet…

TeaEqualsBliss

I do mine straight up but you could try different milk bases. Maybe almond milk might be nice???

Sil

Finn – which matcha do you have? I know i really don’t like straight matcha, even flavoured but with milk it’s delicious! :)

Finn88

I have the Bavarian Creme. Idk what i am doing wrong lol but i always seem to have chuncks of matcha. I know your supposed to sift (99% sure thats what i do wrong) but i ampoor and dont own one lol. Anything makeshift ican use?

Another GREAT BIG THANK YOU to Azzrian for another lovely Matcha!

I totally agree that this smells spot-on Cookies & Cream prior to adding the water! Even after the water is added it smells like it – minus – that punch of sugar I smelled prior to adding the water, that is.

Eventho I really do enjoy the flavor of this matcha – in a blind taste-test I am not sure if I would say it was Cookies & Cream. It’s not as obvious as some of the other matcha flavors, I guess.

Perhaps it’s more of the cream I am getting…like the inside of a Newman-O’s (or Oreo’s)…not so much the crumbly cookie of the outside but the sugary-cream on the inside.

Regardless I like this. It’s a treat. It’s tasty. I will certainly enjoy when I drink it!

Azzrian

Most welcome! :)

Another THANKS to Azzrian

Another tasty flavored matcha!

It’s a nicely-done Butterscotch flavor without being too overdone. It’s creamy and buttery and pretty sweet!

I hope to spend more time with this one – soon – but first impression – it’s a goodie!

Oh lord now I want to go make some you all know how much I LOVE this one!

First and Foremost – Thanks Azzrian

Figs are under rated in my opinion. I have been getting into them even more and think they are GRAND. This Fig Matcha does the fruit proud!

This flavored matcha is sweet like candy. Smooth and creamy and malty and just the right amount of ‘green’ vegetal to go along with it. This is really something!

As it cools a bit I can pick up on the product descriptions claim of spice. This is surprising yet very much welcomed. It’s almost like a Fig-Spice type flavor on the tongue.

It makes me wonder what a Fig Chai (Tea or Matcha) would taste like.

I’m totally LOVING this matcha!

Nik

Is the fig flavour that of fresh figs, or dried figs?

Terri HarpLady

That’s exactly what I was wondering, Nik! I personally love fresh figs, but only really perfectly ripe ones.

Azzrian

I would answer but my experience with figs prior to tea and matcha is non existent for the most part. I have had fig jam but not sure what was used in that.

Terri HarpLady

My gramma used to make an amazing fig preserve! She had a fig tree in her yard, along with apricots, which she used to make spiced apricots (& they were to die for too), & other fruit trees. Her fig preserves were in a super thick sugary syrup, & spread on toast dripping with butter…well, what can I say? Heaven? They were also good in a bowl of oatmeal! Or straight from the jar. When gramma & gramps came to visit they always brought boxes full of canning jars, filled mostly with sweet jellies, preserves, etc.

Donna A

In my neck of the woods, figs are pretty trendy in the restaurants that like to emphasize local grown produce-I’m not big on eating them by themselves, mainly because they are sooo sweet, but have seen them incorporated into delicious recipes. This sounds like a matcha worth trying.

TeaEqualsBliss

I would say partially dried…not fresh off the produce table but not completely dried to a leather…if that makes sense.

Nik

Thanks for the clarification! Terri, I love fresh figs, too. The other kind I really only like on occasion, and in Fig Newtons or some such.

Asaf Mazar

how is the tea flavored? with extract of real figs?

TeaEqualsBliss

it says
Pure Matcha powder from green leaves, Fig Natural Flavor

Azzrian thanks so much for this one – my sista!

This is a more gentle Brandy flavor but it’s satisfying and comforting.
The matcha powder aroma and – even a bit of the flavor – reminds me of some sort of candy…not quite Juicy-Fruit like other steepsters are mentioning…but…certainly something candy-esque.

It’s creamy and smooth. I know what I like and I like this. I’ll probably tinker with it and tweak it and even tho I don’t think it’s overly Brandy-Drink-like I still LIKE it very much!

Smells like a vanilla pie out of the bag. I have never had a vanilla pie, but this is what it would smell like and taste like. Very creamy and rich. I will be honest here, I have not tried this plain, I have used this to mix with other flavored matchas. This blend is the best mixer in terms of adding dimension to another flavor, it just seems to bump up the delicious factor on any other matcha in my cupboard. I highly recommend this matcha, the vanilla is the best I have experienced in a a tea, and I have tried several vanilla teas in my tea drinking career. Head on over to Redleaf Tea and pick up your own bag of this wonderfully flavored matcha:
http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/madagascar-vanilla-matcha.html
Adding this Madasgascar Vanilla to the Pumpkin pie matcha really bumps up the creaminess of the Pumpkin and adds the right amount of smoothness to make this one blend I don’t seem to get tired prof drinking every morning. Vanilla chai was my first tea love, I drank boxes of Bigelowes Vanilla Chai tea, I knew the minute I ordered this MV matcha that I would be mixing it with my chai matcha and you know what? I am in love with this flavor profile all over again, except that now I have the antioxidant properties of a good matcha and a superb Madasgascar Vanilla in my cup.

Thanks to Rachel for this sample! This is my first matcha ever and it is so awesome! I know I mention in most of my tasting notes that I am not an iced tea drinker. But I wish I liked it, because when I want to really get some caffeine in, iced tea is a quicker vehicle for it and much more refreshing.

Well, this isn’t an iced tea exactly, but it’s a refreshing cold tea. Rachel sent the matcha powder to me in a nicely folded aluminum square. I couldn’t help but feel like a drug user unfolding my little aluminum packet of powder. LOL I took a swig from my water bottle to make room, added my typical two packets of Splenda, and dumped all the matcha into the water bottle. I shook it up and said a prayer.

It’s so good! It’s better than any iced tea I’ve ever had! The taste is light, and refreshing, and berry-ish. It makes me happy. I was afraid it would taste like Snapple or Crystal Lite or something but I should never have doubted. Someday I’ll buy my own matcha and I’ll have my own cold caffeine vehicle.

Preparation
Iced 0 min, 15 sec
Babble

Glad you liked it. I stole the aluminum foil idea from another swapper because the bags I had were too big. Plus, it prevents the matcha from going all over the place.

First, a big thanks to Azzrian and AlphaKitty for their reviews on this flavor, because who knows when I would have tried it otherwise. There are so many choices! With that being said, I was very excited about preparing this today, since I have just purchased an Aerolatte, a milk frothing device. With a $5.00 off coupon at my local home goods store, this device was super cheap, and it works great! I sifted the matcha to get rid of lumps, and I used a heaping 1/2 teaspoon in 2 oz water plus 6 oz cold almond milk with a splash of cream and some sweetener. This stuff really does smell good in the bag. I ordered the robust flavor, but I’m glad I was generous with the amount of matcha, because I think you need a little more when you are using milk rather than water as a base. This thing was amazing. I ended up making a second one it was so good and I wanted a 3rd! The frother worked great-so quick- and it made it so nice and foamy, which I love. I have enjoyed every flavor so far from Red Leaf-this may be my favorite, but it’s hard to say because I love Caramel, Boysenberry, and Pumpkin Pie, and Black Cherry is on the way. To me, these are as satisfying as a milk shake and a lot fewer calories.

TeaBrat

oooh, I ordered this today!

Donna A

You will like it a lot Amy!

drank Pistachio Matcha by Matcha Outlet

So this does not beat my love for macadamia nut matcha and I probably even like the almond matcha more HOWEVER this is a very good matcha!
Its funny because pistachios are my favorite nut although macadamia does run a close second the things are just too darn expensive! Not that pistachios are cheap or anything but for the price – heck I will just buy matcha instead!
This pistachio matcha really does smell like pistachio.
There is a slight very slight chemical like smell but it does not come out in the blend when you make your matcha regardless of if you use just water or make a latte with it.
I really do like this matcha and the base comes through very nicely and with pistachio for some reason seems to make even more sense because pistachios have green on them. Yeah I know its a mental thing and I am after all somewhat mental however this may also be quite nice in a white base as well!
As per my usual I got the robust flavoring level.
Love me some Red Leaf Tea Tins as well – if you are new to ordering from them get one and see! Screw top lids make all the difference especially when it comes to matcha!
I feel that the price on them is more than fair as well.
So all in all nut my favorite nut from Red Leaf but even in saying that you can’t go wrong because it is a very fine nut matcha! Hey we all have our favorites! :)

Before I continue this review, my last on for the free matcha program, I just want to say a big THANKS to Red Leaf Tea for encouraging us all to drink more matcha. They have provided us with such wonderful flavors and creative varieties that we will never be satisfied with normal matcha again! I hope to see more new flavors from their creative minds. THANKS RED LEAF!!!
I don’t think I’d be a girl if I didn’t love chocolate. I don’t think anything could be better than matching raspberry with chocolate. My sister-in-law buys these chocolate covered raspberries (in bulk!!!) and so I ordered this matcha hoping that it would satisfy me enough so I wouldn’t steal her stash and become 400 pounds! I opened this matcha and was pleasantly surprised to smell chocolate! I couldn’t seem to smell the raspberry in it. I put it into a tin to keep it fresh, if it’ll make it very long. The small size fits perfect in the tin with a little wiggle room…enough to be able to get the measuring spoon in.
I really wasn’t sure how I wanted to prepare this matcha. I ordered the black matcha as I thought it would compliment the chocolate. First I prepared it with just 1 tsp matcha and 16.9oz of water. It was ok, but not really what I was looking for. I seemed to get more chocolate from it this way and not enough raspberry flavor. SO, next I heated up some milk, added a bit of sugar and frothed it up into a latte. Now here is where I get more of the raspberry. It’s a nice creamy truffle.
On a side note, I’ll be learning to make truffles from tea as a local tea shop this week so maybe I’ll be able to use what I have left in making a tea truffle! You can never go wrong with chocolate and raspberries that don’t make you gain weight.
THANKS again Red Leaf for another wonderful matcha creation….keep’em comin’!
Here is how I ordered my Raspberry Truffle Matcha from Red Leaf Tea:
Size: Small
Quality: Black
Flavor: Delicate
Storage: Air tight refill flat pouch – would definitely recommend purchasing a tin for your matcha to keep it fresh. I did not order one this time since I already had a tin.
