Mmm I always forget how much I like this one. I felt lazy and tired due to my pain pills (which suck. Good thing is I go to the doc’s office tomorrow so hopefully they can help..) so I dumped some hot water over this.
The aroma is SO strong with sweet cinnamon. The flavor is ok. It’s strong on the cinnamon side but it is like a sweet candy cinnamon. The apple is present and is slightly crisp and sweet. Kind of happy I had this on hand tonight. Now let’s hope I get some sleep :/
Some really cool evening weather persuaded me to skip right past the pumpkin stuff (not a big fan actually – prefer my pumpkin in the form of pie). This comfort tea just really hit the spot. The cooling peppermint felt so good on my lungs. Much love for this one.
I don’t have Sleepytime vanilla yet, but hearing about it made me break out the winter CS bags. Last night it was Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride. Love it. Tonight was another awesome choice. Late in the evening when I am looking more for comfort than depth, this really hits the spot.
In other news, I dropped in to the Empire Tea Services warehouse today. We were in the neighborhood and my wife was almost out of her Tea and Herbs. Thought we would save on the shipping. Since we were there I kind of bought 4 oz of Peach and Apricot gunpowder green tea. I’ve had it before. It has been their number 1 seller for years and for good reason. I swear I can smell the fuzz on the peach. I needed another 4 oz of tea like a hole in the head but made the mistake of smelling it. I am weak :)
That “hole in the head” bit? Tell me about it. I have over a pound and a half of tea coming in and I’m still considering getting some more puer from Misty Peaks.
Go ahead CS haters, go ahead and hate. I used to be one of you. You’ll come around one day. Mid 80’s yesterday with oppressive humidity. A little peppermint chill with some vanilla and cinnamon thrown in, really made this a welcome cup to finish the day.
I wonder if I could replicate that feeling by mixing some of my homemade vanilla extract with peppermint tea and a bit of cinnamon? I will post if I give it a go.
My second tea this evening trying to stay hydrated. New box in fact – well newly opened from last winter. As I tore into it I thought, O good Christmas in July… and then I realized it is August O.O Where’d the year go? Very minty. Had a very small handful of M&M’s with it. Interesting combo.
I have barely had time to drink tea lately, much less post about it. I did manage to get in a cup of this last night. I wanted sugar cookie but only have a few bags left. This one I have a box and a half of so it is my go to for a while in the evenings. It is a pleasant cup so I don’t mind.
I am glad I bought way too much of this to last until next season because it may not be enough :) Had this as my bedtime cup. Looks like cutting back the caffeine yesterday may have helped or total exhaustion finally set in. Probably helped that last nights band practice was the most fun in ages. Slept like a rock while visions of electric guitars and candy canes danced in my head. Not really but nice image.
Last night’s cup. Anyone surprised? I didn’t think so.
Fixed this just before bedtime. My desktop is behaving badly. Virus and Malware scans aren’t finding anything. So I decided to do a system restore as I sipped this. Bad idea. At about 2:00 am I turned off the monitor and fell asleep. At 6:00 I was back up working on it again. It at least boots now but still running slow. It may be a motherboard problem in which case it will have to wait. I’ll just use my laptop. I have irreplaceable software on it that even if I could find the disks, they won’t run on Win 8.
Ingredients:
Peppermint, decaffeinated green tea, orange peel, natural vanilla and mint flavors with other natural flavors, cinnamon, milk thistle, blackberry leaves, roasted carob, roasted chicory and vanilla bean.
That sounds bloody awful
That’s what I used to think, add to it that the box looks to cartoonish to be taken seriously. I avoided Celestial Seasonings for years. I was wrong.
KS, I believe you! I usually avoid tea bags, not cause I’m a tea snob but because they taste awful to me. Except for the classic yellow earl grey from Twinings , and another Canadian brand I know, I just don’t bother buying or trying them anymore.
But I’d love to have more variety around to bring with me when I travel, so much user friendly than loose tea!
I checked them out, they seem to use only all natural ingredients and I like that. Just found a Canadian online store that carries a large variety of Celestial Seasonings. I will probably place an order, but before I do, could you recommend some other flavours that you really enjoy from them?
I have only tried 4.
Candy Cane Lane I am obviously obsessed with as well at Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride. Sleigh ride you need to play with time, temp, and water/tea ratio to find your sweet spot. I also recommend adding sweetener – to make it more cookie like.
Sweet Harvest Pumpkin was just OK. I have never had a pumpkin tea that lived up to my expectations. It’s better than most in a bag but the added Stevia kind of doesn’t help.
Sleepytime Extra is a spearmint/chamomile flavored herbal. Normally I hate spearmint. Here it seems to work. I bought this one because it is the only one at my grocer that contains valerian which tends to relax my brain so I can sleep.
One of these days I need to be brave and buy a variety pack just to see if I am missing other simple comfort teas. What I have tried I liked better than Stash. I agree it is hard to beat classic yellow for EG, unless it’s Ahmad ;)
Liquid crack. I know it is. I just can’t quit. Had with M&M chocolate chip cookies. That kind of swallows the vanilla up and intensifies the peppermint.
I won’t post every time I have this one for my evening cup – but right now I am still enjoying having found enough on the shelf to get me through the coming year. Love this stuff.
I did view this brand name tea at the grocery store but I did not buy; now I wish I had. I will keep an eye for it; and cherish as you seem to be doing. I am hoping that it is not to syrupy and sweet but more like their peppermint tea or such. Thank you for sharing.
I think it’s like a peppermint stick. BTW the big double door warehouse mint room at Celestial Seasonings (about 45 min.from me) is the best part of their tour. You walk into a blast of mint scent in the extreme.
Seule771 This has a decaf green tea base that adds some color but not a lot of taste, with peppermint (tasty and not overbearing), and a touch off vanilla. It is the vanilla that knocks it out of the park for me. There is no stevia or other sugary things added so you don’t have to add it if you don’t want it.
Bonnie I want to believe that would be awesome rather than taking what little breath I have away. Does it make your eyes burn?
No, your eyes don’t burn. It’s where the mint is stored, not processed. If you inhale you get that cool mint feeling though. What’s cool is how it fills your nose and mouth like a vaporizer but there’s no mist.
Are there flavors you have trouble finding? If so, they’re easy for me to get here close to the factory if you ever need to get some.
Thanks Bonnie, I’ll keep it in mind. So far I am only addicted to this one and sleigh ride. Both are seasonal – I just have to watch for them. If I don’t stumble upon sleigh ride in the next month I have a market that will order it. I also drink Sleepytime extra but it is always available locally.
Bonnie… I had to go and look to see where the C.Seasonings tours were. Too far for a nice weekend trip for me :( I grew up drinking Sleepytime and now my son loves it. I’ve enjoyed trying other flavors of theirs through the years and it would be fun to see (& smell)their factory & warehouse. If Hubby gets his trip out west that he wants, I might have to ask him to swing by for a tour there!
Hi all,
I am just reading of the Candycane tea comments. I don’t log in much anymore. I have yet to look for this tea to give it a try. One of you made mentioning of ‘Stevia’ about it not having any; as this is good. I don’t care for Natural Leaf Stevia or such at all. It has an after taste that cannot be undone. I am sorry to say. Another good comment was about the Vanilla contrasting nicely with the peppermint and this is good counterbalance as well.
I must remember to have a look for this tea when next I am in a proper grocery store. ALDI’s does not carry Celestial Seasonings of any kind.
I wish for you all a very happy holiday; and let us be kind to one another. I know I am sensitive and I take things wrongly but there are painful comments/innuendo applied at times here. Or it is all imagine on my part.
We minced of words and not of meat. Happy teas to all and a wonderful New Year.
The name says it all.
Confession one: I noted this once before but after having the Jin Jun Mei which is very good but not overly strong flavored, I can still smell it on me hours later. Ode Fujian cologne? Mmmmm.
Confession two: If someone hands me a candy cane I always say thanks and then stick it in my coat pocket to be found weeks, months, or more later. Sad but true. If you hand me a cup of candy cane lane it will be gone it a few minutes. Of course it probably doesn’t hurt that sticking it in my pocket would make a horrible mess. :)
From last night. Love it.
My intention for the day was to get up very early and drink tea all day. I thought I set the bar low enough to accomplish. However it is now going on 11:00 and I haven’t even started yet. Well I have placed some tea orders does that count?
Hi I was wondering if you bought this online or is it in your store yet? Because this is a tea I enjoyed but this online shipping on the celestial seasonings.com is kind of high to me.
I found it this summer in a local store leftover I’m sure from last winter. I can’t wait for this one and Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride to show up this season so I can stock up. Amazon carries it but you pretty much have to buy 6 boxes of it.
I love this. The touch of vanilla takes it over the top.
So I hit the tea aisle yesterday and I find a box of this left over from Christmas. I’ve read the reviews. This can’t be that good. In the past I have walked straight past celestial seasonings because the boxes are too cute to be taken seriously. Having recently enjoyed Sleepytime Extra I decided to give this a shot.
Holy awesome peppermint blast Batman! Yes, this does live up to the hype. The vanilla is just enough to add some creaminess late in the sip. The cinnamon is barely detectable but probably just right in its supporting role. The green tea I only catch in the aftertaste. Frankly, I am OK with that. Did I mention peppermint? I think there has to be peppermint dust in the bottom of the box. Now I have got to find Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride.
I’ve been in their ‘mint room’ which is sinus cleansing! They open huge warehouse doors inside the factory and BAM! It’s the best part of the tour.
Opening the box was pretty cleansing. I can’t even the warehouse. I saw their plant on Unwrapped and was impressed with the operation. That is why I bought my first box of sleepytime Extra.
I have frequent headaches and sinus issues, I have found that smelling mint or chewing on a mint leaf will at least partially relieve some of the pain. I always try to have some sort of minty tea on hand:)
I can’t remember my own name most days, so don’t hold me to this, but I’ll try to slip a couple Sugar Cookie bags in the mail for a sample taste.
Hesper June – which type mint helps you most? I have not heard any one say this before.
gmathis – That would be awesome!
Might be having sinus migraines HJ…should check it out.All the health benefits of mint with headaches that I’ve read about are from rubbing it on your forehead with oil.
Yes, I get sinus headaches when the seasons are changing, also, I get lots of stress headaches.
I grew up around herbalists and I remember them saying things about using mint on headaches.
I have tried the applying mint externally and it did nothing for me, but if I drink a strong mint tea (Traditional Medicinals) or actually pluck mint leaves from my mint plant and eat them, I have found that personally eases my pain to at least half, sometimes more.
Also, some essential oils are okay to take internally under the tongue and this also helps me greatly. (But, PLEASE do your research on which ones are okay to do this with before using)
Peppermint is also great for nausea and indigestion.
But, if you have issues with acid reflux, I have been told it could irritate that.
`KS, I grow just a regular old peppermint and use that, also the teas and essential oils that I use, all contain organic peppermint.
