When I saw this a few weeks ago I thought that this would make a great 30th birthday present to myself. I have to admit, I was a bit of a sneak and had a cup when it first came in. I never was good at waiting for presents and it was really hard to wait another 10 days to drink some more. I’m not overly familiar with oolong, but I love peach and white peony.
The white peony is pretty subtle and stays in the background and that works really well with the peach that you can taste a little more up front. The oolong rounds this out quite nicely and makes me want to try some others since I’m lacking a bit in that area. This is nice hot but I prefer it at room temperature or even iced, I think the peach comes out better once it cools. The second steep looses most of the peach flavor which was a little disappointing, but it still resteeped fairly well and you can still taste the white peony.
I don’t know if I will be buying this for myself again mainly because they don’t offer it without the tin. I would jump on it otherwise because I’m really starting to like it. I do think this would make the perfect inexpensive gift for the tea drinker in your life. Pair it with an ingenuiTEA and it makes it a gift that keeps on giving, I think I may do this for a few of my tea drinking friends this year.
My husband’s gift to me was pretty nice as well, he let me sleep in and he took my toddler out all morning which gave me a quiet house. Then promised to make me a carrot cake from scratch once he got back. Score! Turning 30 is pretty awesome.
Preparation
I agree and it has been a great conversation piece as well. Everyone who was come over the last few weeks has asked about it.
Thanks to Shadowfall for letting me try this tea.
Scorpio is my zodiac. Scorpio is known to be “passionate & jealous”
Combined these two factors, I was so curious about this tea. Would it be really bitter? Would it be really sour? Just when I think of scorpio, it’s definitely not something sweet or smooth :)
When I brewed it, I smelled smooth, somewhat sweet scent of rooibos. I was surprised that they chose to use rooibos as base, but then, more surprised that it was vanilla flavored — When I drank it it was very smooth vanilla rooibos tea. Really? Scorpio & Vanilla? Just..unexpected combination.
Don’t get me wrong, I liked this tea. Just name did not work for me :)
I almost thought t try this tea myself (also Scorpio), but I’m not too fond of rooibos. I like some rooibos blends ok, but I had a vanilla rooibos before that was possibly the worst thing ever! I would have done this blend with a black tea and possibly some kind of spice and chocolate flavor. Something strong but unique. Maybe their reasoning for vanilla was that scorpio needs a tea that will calm the fire? oh well :)
Like I’ve said before, I’m not a fan of green tea. The first time I tried this, I think I brewed it way too hot and steeped it for a bit too long. It was bitter after the first cup.
When re-steeping, I used a lower temperature water, less water, and steeped for shorter. I still had to douse it in sugar and honey to make it taste good.
Not the best I’ve had by any means.
Preparation
Rarrgh! The stupid internet ate the review I wrote. /grumbles/ Ah well.
I’ve had a taste for this tea for the past few days, and it’s just as I remember it. Though not as bitter or astringent as I remember, possibly because I used a cooler water temperature this time. Seems to have tempered it a bit, which is nice.
A good vanilla taste with a richness from the chocolate (I think), but mostly it’s vanilla. I don’t get any mango here which is good since I’ve found I’m allergic to any teas heavy in mango. So I just pick out the big chunks in this and I’m good.
Also the rooibos isn’t strong and I don’t get any of the minty taste I’ve come to associate with any rooibos teas I’ve drank recently. Possibly because it isn’t the main tea here and is mixed with a stronger black tea. Whatever is it, it’s just a nice addition and not overpowering.
Preparation
Not too bad, but not really great either. It smells wonderful in the tin, but to be honest, I wasn’t that impressed with the actual taste of it brewed. To me it smelled/tasted a bit bitter and I couldn’t really find any of noticeable tastes of chocolate, vanilla or mango. It might be that I just used too hot of a temperature and burned it, though with a black/rooibos combo, I didn’t think you really could. Still going to mess with the brewing temp a bit next time since it can’t hurt.
Most likely I think it’s my own taste since I’ve been drinking mainly oolongs and whites lately.
This is one I’ll keep around and revisit now and then, definitely when I’m on more of a black kick.
Preparation
Sipdown, 187. I honestly cannot remember who I got this sample from. I think it was Rachel Sincere, but I’m not certain. Sorry about that, and thanks, swap buddy. I used to try all the samples I got in swaps right away, but now I sit on them for a while and forget who they came from.
There are surprisingly few reviews for this tea given how popular Adagio is in general. I think I know why. These have got to be the most overly perfumy jasmine pearls I’ve ever had. Not even just very strong jasmine (which I am of course a fan of) but jasmine to an extreme, to a point where it hardly tastes like jasmine anymore. I would have to say if you are looking for a good jasmine pearl, this is not one to investigate.
Preparation
Can you recommend a good Jasmine tea since you find that Adagio’s Phoenix Pearls are not the greatest?
Outstanding pearls (at a great price too) can be had from Teavivre (http://www.teavivre.com). Definitey some of the best pearls I’ve ever had, I highly recommend them.
Thank you Lariel for some samples of this! I enjoyed this while on vacation because it was easier to carry(it was bagged) to breakfast thank loose. I was excited to get this because I LOVE anything lemon\lime. When I started steeping it I got kind of a kitchen cleaner smell aroma out of it. But as it cooled the aroma was more pleasant. The flavor was very nice. It was mellow but still had a nice citrusy taste to it. I really enjoyed it! Thanks again!
I DON’T like flower taste or smell. It reminds me of inhaling perfume. HOWEVER, this tea is goooood. The jasmine flavor is light and sweet, not overpowering like I was fearing. The only bad thing is that the smell of the tea before steeping is strongly floral. Not something I’d drink everyday, but I was pleasantly surprised by this one.
Preparation
first and foremost.. I don’t even like Chai tea. BUT.. Just but its amazing. So there should be nothing about this tea that I like. I hate chai and I hate coconut. Honestly. However I smelt the tea and decided to take it home with me and wow.. Just Wow am I happy that I took it home with me. This has honestly has been my favorite tea that I have got from this shop. It is great. the flavor is pungent and powerful. It sticks with you through out the drinking. The smell is amazing. It is a great wake up tea for the morning and a good tea to have after a meal. This tea is like drinking a cup of greatness with a side of amazing. The second infusion the tea loses no flavor. It keeps going. With small hints of vegetation flavor but a lot of earthy tones. This tea will have you surprised with every sip.
Preparation
Bought this as a Christmas gift for JP. He made it himself with “too much tea not enough water” and thought it was far too strong.
Fast forward a week with me making at at the listed prep specs, low and behold he liked it! It has nice sweet notes and is a pretty mellow Assam.
Preparation
I got this as a free sample with a bigger order. I was surprised how fast the bag perfumed the air after cutting it open, smelled really good. Tastes strongly of jasmine, but not TOO strong, just right. Also reminds me of bubble gum, in a good way. This is now my top jasmine tea, until something else can dethrone it…
Preparation
Love this tea. It happens to be my “sign” so it was fun to boot. The tin is lovely, and would make a nice gift. And the tea leaves are also very nice to see. A large volume of lush green tea leaves mixed with dried fruit, and chamomile leaves sprinkled in. There is also a scattering of a bright royal blue; I’m not entirely sure what that is, but it really pops.
The tea itself is very smooth, and relaxing. The aroma is super inviting, and the taste is great. I will definitely repurchase this tea when I run out. But the tin is quite voluminous, and you can steep several glasses from one serving, so that will be a while. :)
I prepared as indicated on the tin (temp. and time).
sipdown!
I am really sad to be out of this one. It has always reminded me drinking a cookie. I liked this one because it was so uncomplicated. I can’t believe that it lasted so long in my cupboard. But I do plan on ordering this one again at some time in the future because it is (a) so tasty and (b) such a good deal. The tins on the 2012 zodiac set are so beautiful and the perfect size for keeping my art supplies in. The cost is so minimal for them too.
Preparation
I really have to recommend this as one of my favorite teas from Adagio. It is very straightforward, the tin is beautiful, and you get a large quantity for a reasonable price. The base for this black tea is much more mellow than some of Adagio’s other flavored blacks. The hazelnut is the main flavor, followed by the black tea, and has hints of cream. Basic, but tasty!
