1598 Tasting Notes
I’m not sure what happened, but I am less impressed with this cup this time around. Strange! But it’s a sipdown and I’m at 150 so I AM happy about that.
I have a lot coming in, but Sil and I were both hoping to hit 150 for the end of Feb. It COULD happen! (30 teas are incoming. Possibly 40 if I get 10 fandom samples directly from Aun-Juli)
I don’t think I’ve actually reviewed this one yet, although I’ve had it several times. I think I’m halfway through my tin (one of the ones in the 3/$30 promo), so it’s time to do it!
So, it’s a white/green chai! That’s unusual, right? But I can sorta kinda barely taste the tea under all the spices, and the spices are more delicate than your typical chai. I can taste creamy coconut and spicy cardamon and cinnamon. Oh, and the peppercorn. It’s nice. It’s a little relaxing. I haven’t decided if I would need to repurchase this, but I’m going to ennjoy eevery cup until it’s gone.
AND OMG. I love that when you scroll the rating bar, it tells you clearly what the rating is. I’m using my Surface and it seems to work much better than before!
Preparation
Sipdown! (151)
I thought I might as well have another pot of this, just to get that tin off my shelf and to help make room for my incoming Adagio order.
(as well as some other teas I am working on buying atm. :O :O :O)
This was a little boring drinking it two days in a row, but I added maple agave and that fixed it right up!
Now to edit the information for this tea….
Preparation
Ok! There is hope for this. My 91 rating is not unjustified.
I let it sit for 25 minutes, or more, and enjoyed it when I came back. It was perfect. It didn’t taste like thin water. It taste rich and chocolately and decadent. I may have wasted leaf on this, but I’d rather leaf the heck out of it and enjoy it, than not.
But I"m still gonna sneak a chocolate almond or two after I finish this cup!
Flavors: Chocolate
Preparation
I picked this with my Christmas money and have been enjoying it for over a month now.
I have to say I am highly satisfied with this. It’s my first variable temp kettle, and now that I have it I don’t think I could ever go back. This thing is amazing.
First off, it’s quiet. No beep bop boops as you punch in the buttons and no alarm when the kettle is done. Sure, that means I have to pay attention to see if my water is ready, but OTOH it will also keep the water hot for an hour afterwards if I lose track of time. It’s very laid back, this kettle.
I fill it up in the morning and then hop in the shower, to have hot water waiting for me. Perfect!
While you can’t set the temperature exactly, you do have a lot of options. In Celsius it goes up by 5 from 40-100 (or maybe lower?), while F goes up by 10. Between the two, switching back and forth, you can get it pretty close to most temperatures that you might want.
My only complaint is that I wish it boiled faster. I swear my old kettle did, but it’s hard to measure unless I set them up to race and I can’t do that. It’s still very zippy though! And it’s well worth the $45 I invested into it. Now I can drink far more greens/whites without worrying about the temperature at all!
I’m happy that Steepster steered me toward Hamilton Beach when I was shopping around!
Oooh! I’m pretty excited about the new layout. I like all the extra fields that we can fill in. And I think the flavors box might help me pay more attention to exactly what I’m tasting, because words can make it difficult sometimes, and once people populate it, I can look for suggestions. Neat-o!
I’m not sure about the font, but I’m sure I"ll get used to it. I like the teawares page. I also like that you can specify EXACTLY how much tea/water you used (although for gong fu steeping that might not be as helpful).
Overall: A
And so I wanted to drink this tea to celebrate the changes! I already added all the ingredients into the page, and I imagine I’ll be busy filling in tea info for the next few weeks as we populate all these extra fields. I’m totally a geek that way.
Preparation
This is my favourite 52 Tea. I have a weakness for it and have been hoarding my little pouch FOREVER.
final damage after today is only 181 since both kittenna and Raritea took home some teas and will just pass the leftovers to me once they’re done (i’m doing the same with some of mine) so still under 200! at least until the BB Box gets here, swedish chef’s package gets here…and uh the canadian travelling tea box gets here..
I drank a whole pot of this earlier because I wanted to get rid of my tin and now there’s enough for my small tin for work! YES.
And I haven’t had a lot of success with this blend lately, but it worked out perfectly today. Almond and cranberry, as promised. Phew.
I must have fluked it every time with my sample sized purchase because I consistently got almond and cranberry.
I don’t know what it is, but it’s certainly just be me. I loved all my H&S teas, and then suddenly they all tasted flat and artificial. :( Today was closer to what I remember it being!
Nah, it’s not just you. I’ve seen a lot of people think this one is really flat. I think I’m the odd one out. But then again, I haven’t had it in over a year. I agree though, that they’ve been tasting flat and artificial to me to me, as well. It’s been a real chore to drink up my Florence and SoHo. I swear it’s especially their chocolate note that tastes waxy and artificial.
Sipdown!(154) I love this one!
Thanks again Sil!
And no, I could taste the nutmeg, but it wasn’t too strong or anything for those asking.
Yes. I approve!
Also, this is really especially good if you take a sip of it right after taking a bite out of a chocolate bar. I suspect this is a secret that applies to ALMOST every tea.
But barring (ha) the chocolate bar, this is still very good. Is that an assam back there? I’m not sure, but the base is nice, and the spices are good. And should be identifiable. Nutmeg, and cinnamon maybe? And a little bit of chocolate. To be fair, there’s never enough chocolate so I always say “a little bit”.
I’ve never ordered from Kusmi or checked them out so I went and checked the website. It’s in French. I clicked on language, and selected Canada, expecting to be given a choice but nope. Apparently we speak French here.
Nous parlons francais ici!
Non, c’est non pas vrais. Or something like that. It’s been 10 years you guys.
Merci beaucoup VariaTEA!
Preparation
There is an English option on the site but for some reason when you click that majority just remains in French
I noticed that! I clicked on the US but it’s a different site, so I’m curiuos if the shipping is calculated differently depending if you order from the french site or the english one. I may play around with carts to find out.
ZOOOOOOM! Your cupboard will be overflowing again in no time. :)
