1598 Tasting Notes
Thank you Brian and 221tea for sending me a sample of this one. It sounded so amazing, but I was hesitant to spend $12.50/oz without know if it was REALLY worth that much.
Yes. Of course it is. It really, really is. Where’s my credit card? :O
(Oh, I’ll wait a little bit. So much to sipdown first, including the rest of the Whispering Pines samples those 2 sent me!)
It’s like decadent fudge – the chocolate notes are just that strong and with a bit of depth/weight to them. So amazing. I also get honeyed vanilla with this as well. I’m going to resteep this for the rest of the afternoon. I WILL!
Thank you, again.
This is one of the more astringent Assam’s. And that’s ok, especially if you like to add a little milk or cream to help tame it, but I like to soldier on and drink it plain. It has a nice bit of malt, and the tiniest hint of sweetness!
I don’t regret drinking this over my Tiger Assam, but it does make me appreciate the Tiger Assam more. Sorry, Beast of the East.
I chose this as my sample for next month’s Simple Loose Leaf selections because it sounded interesting, but puerh’s make me a little nervous because when I don’t like them, I really don’t like them. Why not find out for sure?
And now that I’ve had some, I think I’ll select this one after all!
It definitely has that smooth earthy taste you would expect from a puerh, but it’s also bright and tropical! I can taste the creamy coconut, and fruity papaya. It’s not a blend I would have thought of, but it works!
So far I’m off to a good start with my subscription!
Preparation
I eased into puerhs by trying small samples of flavoured puerhs from DAVIDsTEA like Cinnamon Heart, and when that was acceptable, I ended up ordering a few from Tealux! (Tealux has a lot of interesting flavours and you can buy 1 oz as a minimum for reasonable prices, especially if you hit them during a sale: http://www.tealux.com/flavored_pu_erh_tea). If you wanted to experiment, that’s what I’d recommend. And then once you got used to that earthy taste, you could try some unflavoured ones.
OMG, this tea. O.M.G.
I actually didn’t snack on anything tonight because I drank two cups of this and it satisfied my sweet tooth and made me super happy. It’s like a lemony pastry thing, with butter meltling in my mouth…
Thank you 221B for this and the giant bag of samples that was packed along with it.
(i wonder if i can resteep it a third time?)
Preparation
Thank you Kat Maria! (187)
I brewed it hot and I’m enjoying this fruity green/white, but it’s just a little bit of strawberries, and oddly, a little bit of butter, and comfort, and it’s nice and all that, but I don’t know that I’d take it home to meet my mother or anything like that.
Speaking of… mother’s day this weekend! :O I have little time to dig up some kind of gift and ensure she gets it in time. #failed I bought her tea before but I don’t know that she’s actually drinking it or would want any more. :| And we rarely speak. Ugh. We did take a mold of my 2yo at work, so maybe I can send her a copy of my daughter’s feet? It’ll be late but something like that might be cool.
Ok, back to work. Back to drinking tea!
ETA So all the new Summer teas are out, so I grabbed the Summer pack and mailed that to her (in BC, so it’ll be late). Even if she doesn’t drink a lot of tea, she DOES like iced tea, especial decaf ones! #patsselfonback I also sent her the bubble pineapple mugs bc they’re cute.
Thanks VariaTEA (188)
So, I’m an idiot. I’m completely exhausted and drank two cups of this tonight and didn’t realize that it was green rooibos. (Uhh… I can haz caffiene?) :P It’s freaking tasty though, and now I can get this AND Melon Oolong because they are actually quite different and good for different times of the day.
ETA: I’m actually REALLY a big idiot because this isn’t the tea I drank. :P Can you believe that? I drank the Ripe Mango Oolong from Kat_Maria and it was delicious and I loved it, and I KNEW that it had big leaves, so why did I think it was a green rooibos?
Anyway… move along… nothing to see here!
I think it’s a California-only blend, although I could be wrong. I’m going to grab a whack when I’m there in a few months, and am happy to send some along to anyone else who wants some.
It’s a San Franciscan blend, so you can only get it in their three locations in SF.
I live in SoCal for uni BUT home is in the suburbs around SF so I can easily ask my parents to run into the City and purchase a couple packages of this tea :)
If anyone wants, I’m totally up for sending a wee 4-5g sample of this tea since it is my absolute favourite tea in the entire world :)
It took me a year and a half but I have finally finished all 6 oz of this. It was tasty, but I think i could go years before I ever pick more up. :P (OVERLOAD)

It feels pretty great to cross off the oldest tea on my list!
Whistles innocently
To be fair, I think I warned you before I dumped that on you. Maybe you were supposed to share? Or maybe I’m just an awful tea friend. Haha I can’t remember.
Thank you Roswell Strange for letting me try this tea! I’ve had bad luck with 52 Teas lately but this one is just whammo-perfect!
It tastes really bright and fresh! It’s just… boom! Here’s your cucumber! And then as you’re thinking yeah, this is pretty good, it fades and you can taste the mango as the sip finishes.
Lovely.
Did you drink this hot? I have this one sitting around. I am a little nervous to try it. It sounded like a good one to make cold. Your description makes me want to go home and make this tonight!
Yum! This sounds delicious :)
Everyone is making this sound so good!
Eii! Even more excited to try my sample of it now :)
…yes but would I like it…. cough
Hahah. I can send you the second half of my sample!
Corrected: I AM sending you the sample!
I’ll give you 2% off your next order if you put this review on this tea’s product page at www.whisperingpinestea.com :)
Glad you liked it! It is currently my favorite morning tea. :)
I’m happy to spread the love there! I forget about reviewing retailer sites more often than I should. /0\
Right? There’s such an amazing community here that it’s easy to forget that not every teadrinker reads these reviews :P hehe. Thanks! Sending your code now! :)
