84 Tasting Notes
4g, 75ml, 200F
Rinse x 2.
Wet leaf – tobacco, sweet ripe fruit, plum, apricot, straw.
First steep seemed a bit flat but I think it was too hot?
Lingering fluffy sweetness. Sweet, pepper, floral, minerals (reminds me of some oolongs in a way).
Many steeps over a couple days and then cold-brewed spent leaves in fridge overnight as I often do. Thank you for sharing mrmopar!
Preparation
If you still have some of this one I recommend slurping the first few steeps. Now that you know it is subtle in the front you should be able to enjoy a bit more next time. :)
That is so interesting and helpful JC. Does slurping sort of cool the tea in the mouth? I always find that if tea is too hot it is hard to taste and that’s what I thought it might be in this case. I don’t have anymore of this one but its on my order wishlist for at least another sample. I will use the slurping technique though for other teas and see if it helps.
Is more like aerates the tea in your mouth. Also if it is too hot let it rest a bit more or even try to do ‘high pours’ to cool the liquor from the Gaiwan to the pitcher and from the pitcher to the cup. I don’t think it is a must, but slurping does help with more subtle teas. :)
Thanks so much! I often pour directly from gaiwan to cup so I do have to let it rest but sometimes sip too soon. :)
I’m looking forward to trying slurping though and perhaps being able to taste more of the subtle teas/notes.
It helps. I don’t do it all the times, but now I find myself doing for some teas that I just like slurping :P Is story to tell people, basically explaining ’I’m not being rude or lacking manners. I’m enjoying this the best way possible *slurrrrrp*’.
Rinsed quickly a couple times in cold water the night before so it would soften up a bit and brew more quickly the next morning. Rinsed a couple more times with boiling water before short steeps. Tastes rich with wood and a bit of a lingering sour note that disappeared later and became sweeter and softer like caramel.
I brewed this several times over a few days and when I thought it may be done I boiled it in a small pot of water as there were still lumps holding together. It was surprising how intense a brew I still got from this – a very giving tea.
Preparation
Although I mostly drink black tea, the past while everything started tasting the same, and even worse, not tasting good. So, I pulled out some pu’reh samples I have had stashed away as I had a feeling that is what I needed.. And I was right. This is what I want to drink now.
This tea in particular is so delicious, and although I am not able yet to describe any flavors other than smooth and darkly sweet, this is what I want to drink everyday. Since this is the last of my sample it will not be this particular tea, but this taste is what I want and am craving for now.
Thank you to a very special tea friend who sent these wonderful samples to me last year – I am lucky to have been touched by your kindness.
i’ve noticed some shous taste like chocolate
