drank Hot Chocolate by DAVIDsTEA
3402 tasting notes

Here is yet another tea that I decided to sip down, only to discover that it isn’t even listed in my cupboard. But my pouch is nearly empty and there are no tasting notes from me so how did that happen? Needless to say, I am adding to cupboard so that tomorrow I can have the pleasure of deleting from cupboard.

It isn’t quite a sipdown yet, but will be soon.

This was a gift from Superanna, I bet about five years ago! Maybe even more. Then I hoarded it, waiting for cold weather and company to coincide. Time to drink it!

This is a blend of puerh and black tea. I don’t taste the black tea much as the puerh and strong, strong chocolate dominate. It was nicely chocolatey and I have grown accustomed to chocolate flavored tea over the years. It isn’t an abomination to me now and I no longer complain about it being thin and unlike REAL hot chocolate. It doesn’t seem to have suffered from aging. There is a deep, dark almost coffee note (mocha?) that is pretty nice at breakfast,

There is a lot of oil floating on top of the cup, but I expect that from some flavored teas, especially ones with real chocolate in them. I had this with breakfast, which was a heavily buttered Bays English Muffin.

Once the muffin was gone, I sipped and realized that this was way way too sweet to be just sweet from melted chocolate pieces. I looked at the package and saw stevia extract. Normally I hate stevia but with food it wasn’t as apparent. Now that the muffin is gone, I get the weirdness of stevia.

This was decent with food, and if you like stevia it is decent on its own. I won’t repurchase, but I enjoyed it well enough. If I want chocolate puerh, I will order Lupicia Chocolate Strawberry!

I blame steepster for too many teas because of the fun of adding/deleting to the cupboard. :D

Bio

I am a music teacher, tutor, and former homeschool mom (25 years!) who started drinking loose leaf tea about fifteen years ago! My daughters and I have tea every day, and we are frequently joined by my students or friends for “tea time.” Now my hubby joins us, too. His tastes have evolved from Tetley with milk and sugar to mostly unadorned greens and oolongs.

We have learned so much history, geography, and culture in this journey.

My avatar is a mole in a teacup! Long story…
