237 Tasting Notes
As this steeped, I couldn’t help but notice that the liquor looks exactly like maple syrup. Mmm. It smells like honey, and raisins, and bread, and milk chocolate. Double yum.
I grab my cup, take another whiff, and go for my first sip. I stare at my cup blankly. Blink a few times. Take another sips. Look for my socks, can’t find them. I guess they were COMPLETELY ROCKED OFF by the taste of the little treasure that’s in my cup.
In case you were wondering, this most definitely does not taste like eyebrows. Unless eyebrows taste like rich dark chocolate, wood, and baked goodness. It smells divine and tastes better than it smells.
This is Oh my effing God good.
As I steeped this, I was very impressed (surprised?) by the color of the liquid: bright, like yellow gold. I don’t know what I was expecting, but definitely not something so pretty. The infusion smells very sweet, like cotton candy. As it hits the tongue, the immediate flavour is sweet pea, followed by honey. There is a floral note dancing in the background and sweet corn in front of it. The astringency is mild. A very good cup.
2014 flush
Omgomgomgomgomgomgomg MY TEALUX ORDER IS HERE! I ordered the day before yesterday, that was QUICK! Bonus: boyfriend was at work when mailman came, so no explaining! Yay!
I chose this one first because the bag had some color detail that the others didn’t (honestly). Then I saw the name and I was like “Ooooh, re-serve!” and I knew I made the right choice.
The dry leaf nose is floral, fresh and intoxicating. The liquor is a clear, sandy colour. I want to say beige but beige is boring and what I’m looking at is not that at all. The infusion smells of fresh country air, lilac, and pollen. I am transported to my childhood. With my grandmother, in the garden of their small town country home, hanging the clothes on the clothesline on a sunny summer afternoon. Not a care in the world, no stress, no perception of time. Blissful.
I sip this precious time-machine elixir and a wonderfully sweet, floral taste fills my mouth. It makes me think of my mother’s antique silver, of expensive shoes I would never be able to afford.
It tastes wealthy, costly, fresh. It’s sugar, it’s blossoming trees, it’s fresh air. This tea has transported me and it reinforces my love for tea.
Preparation
I just ordered from Whispering Pines and payed 12.50 for shipping for 2 teas. Some would say that is a lot for two teas. I say I could’ve bought a pack of cigarettes with that but I didn’t, I paid for shipping, so really, 12.50$ is a small price to pay for health. My tealux and teavivre order should also be arriving any day now. And then my two swaps. And then the travelling tea box. And I might order from Butiki like now, because well, at this point, a little more/ a little less….
I’m surprised that I was craving this hard. There’s just something about it that I ADORE. I used up almost the rest of it, and packed away 1 cup’s worth in case someone tells me they want to try it. But I might drink that too. Yummy caramel popcorn with apple slices on the side.
I sweetened this with dark maple syrup this morning. I felt like I was being naughty and almost stopped myself, but then I didn’t because I just didn’t want to live with that regret.
So gooood.
This tastes like a cheap sleepy time bagged mint tisane to me. So disappointed :( Boo.
Also wanted to add that there is a very obvious hemp (being polite because I really want to write marijuana) taste to this.
Disclainer: I am not a pothead because I know what it tastes like. Just sayin’! Don’t want anyone to get the wrong idea, but it’s an interesting note so i have to share!
LOL! You know what’s funny too? My boyfriend told me to use the kitchen scale to measure the quantities of tea to make sure they were all the same and I was like “But WHY?” Can you imagine how completely misleading that could be to someone just passing by and looking into my kitchen window? Let’s NOT get arrested over tea samples please lol
LOL that mental picture is priceless. But I thought you Canadians were much more relaxed about that ;)
This tea’s aroma reminds me of a forest in the fall, when it is raining: wood, dry leaves, earth. It is indeed very earthy, and it would be very good if the astringency wasn’t so strong. It leaves an aftertaste that isn’t good. Not the best really, but a nice change. I must try a better quality darjeeling. I always see people talking smack about darjeeling, but I think I would probably actually quite like it if I had a better one.
Im sorry it didnt work out for you. Darj could be very finicky. They like lower temps and less steep time.
Oh, nothing beats a fresh spring Darjeeling! Nothing wrong with DT, but not the best place to buy it from. Tealux is in Mtl and has amazing Darjeeling at very decent price:
Will try that!! I steeped for 4 mins with 95 degree water without really looking at the recommendations on the package (silly me _) Thank you for the tip! :D
Oh do you have any other recommendations from tealux? I’ve been wanting to order from them, but have no real reviews or word of mouth comments to make decisions.
Veronica, I have tons of recommendations, but mostly for straight tea, I don’t like their flavoured tea that much. I will PM you later with some of my favourites :-)
Another jasmine tea!
Although this is not as good as the Butterfly Jasmine I had yesterday, it is still pretty damn good. I love jasmine tea: it smells like a spring morning in the garden. If I close my eyes, I can almost feel the grass under my feet and the breeze on my skin. Or it can also smell like the expensive perfume you are envious of when that lady walks past you on the street, Aaah. Tastes rich in the expensive way.
Teas that make me FEEL something, or bring me somewhere and stir up feelings and scenarios in my mind are exceptionally noteworthy and jasmine tea always does that for me.
Isn’t it the bomb this tea?
LOL
