1118 Tasting Notes
I’m throwing caution to the wind and having a caffeinated tea at almost ten o’clock at night. I’m sure I’ll hate myself later, but right now this is wonderfully delicious. Slightly sweet with a nice bit of spice. The base tea isn’t super strong, but it isn’t completely hidden by the spices either. I’m taking a break from sugar, so I skipped the honey, but I did add a touch of milk. Given how much I like sugar in my chai I’m happily surprised at how much I’m enjoying it without the extra sweetness.
Preparation
I woke up this morning craving something that wasn’t an Assam. This might be a sign of the end times, people. Instead of something rich and malty I wanted something green and fruity. This tea fits the bill nicely.
There is a wonderful blueberry flavor here. I’m also really liking the grassy notes in the green tea. It’s sweet and clean reminding me of grass that has been freshly mowed. The combination is undeniably spring-like and perfect for a warm, slightly humid morning.
I’m glad I made a pot of this one rather than a single cup. It’ll be nice to sip on while catching up on emails.
Preparation
I am back from New Orleans and happily, utterly, blissfully exhausted. I had a great time with my parents and sisters, and I really enjoyed celebrating my niece. What I didn’t have while I was down there was hot tea, so it’s nice to get home to my tea cupboard… and family. :)
Since I’m planning on going to bed early tonight I decided an herbal tea would be best. I’m still a big fan of this one. Tonight it’s all peaches and cream. Tasty and incredibly relaxing.
Preparation
I’m going to New Orleans tomorrow to meet up with family, celebrate my niece who is graduating from high school, and enjoy the long weekend. It should be a lot of fun. Of course, before the fun comes all of the work of packing and making sure the husband and kiddos have everything they need/might need/think-they-need-but-really-don’t before I head off to the airport. With such a crazy day ahead of me I want a few moments of calm before tackling the to-do list.
Nothing is more calming than Zen Tea’s Earl Grey Cream. Nothing. The moment I sip this tea I am in my happy place. Apparently my happy place has a wonderful balance of bergamot and vanilla. Good vanilla, not the cheap stuff. And my happy place has a base tea that is smooth but strong enough to have a presence next to the other flavors. Such an excellent tea, and such a lovely happy place.
Preparation
Tea of the morning. I wish I would’ve made a pot of this instead of a cup. It is absolutely delicious. Very malty with a honey finish. I added a little sugar but skipped the milk. This one is a keeper. I’m thinking I’m going to blow through my sample bag of this in a day or two because – yum.
Preparation
Yuck. This herbal is a strange mix of sweetness from the licorice, heat from the ginger, and bitterness from the lemon and orange peel. I think what comes off as bitter is supposed to be tart, but the aftertaste is all bitter.
I was getting a swap package together and realized that after sending some of this to kimquat I only had one serving left. Must mean it was meant to be finished off today!
The combination of rice and marshmallow is really good. It’s kind of hard not to smile while I’m drinking it because it does have that Rice Crispy Treat kinda flavor going on. The green tea is there, but my focus is on the toasty rice and marshmallow sweetness. Yum.
As good as this one is I’m not overly sad to see it go. I’m trying to quit hoarding teas, and I can see this tea losing some of its shine if I held on to it too long.
Preparation
It’s been a couple of months since I’ve had this one, and I forget how nice it is. It’s fairly basic. Vanilla and tea. The white tea stars are mostly there for show. They don’t lend much to the tea itself, but they are pretty. My guess is that the black tea is Assam. There is some malt and a thickness that I tend to associate with Assams. The black tea is strong and a good base for the vanilla which is sweet but not at all artificial. Add a touch of milk and sugar, and this is a tea I can easily enjoy.
Preparation
Tea of the morning. If I have to wake up and face a Monday then this is the way to do it. My mug is full of coca, malty goodness. Today there’s also an ever so slight woody note and some sweetness with the smoke at the end of the sip.
I love this tea.
Preparation
A friend gave me some peach ginger iced tea bags as I was leaving her house the other day. I decided to brew them up this morning, and now I’m sitting here with a really nice glass of iced tea. I wish I knew the name of the tea company, but she just left for a two week vacation in Hawaii, so I doubt I find out the name any time soon. :)
The tea has a strong peach/ginger flavor, but the base tea is also really good. There is a woody note and also a bit of grain. Both flavors work well with the fruit and spice. The tea is fairly robust. I think it would be excellent at a barbecue where lots of foods with strong flavors were being served. This is an iced tea that could hold its own against anything that might come off the grill.
I have to restrain myself from drinking caffeinated teas at night ALL THE TIME. It sucks to have so much of my stash off limits during the time of day that I have the most time available for tea drinking!
mj1851- I feel the same way. sometimes I just have to rebel. I was lucky and slept through the night, but it was just as likely that I’d be tossing and turning at 3am. Either way, there are days when an herbal just isn’t what I want. Give me my tea! :)
