Tea on the go this afternoon…..

I think I might have used more tea than normal this time as I switched my infuser all ready to go from my teapot to my travel mug…. What resulted was a very rich cup! Yum. For later notes to self…..If your Keemun Mao Feng seems light, add a little more leaf!

Breakfast tea with a little Keemun added…..

Breakfast today was Oat Bran with dried cranberries, golden raisins, a tbs of half & half and packet of sweetener. It so reminds me of the Cream of Wheat I loved as a kid. For something that is healthy, it was very good. (yes, I could do better by doing skim milk…)

Yep…a good start to the day.

Oh, I loved Cream of Wheat as a kid, too. I revisited it in a big way my first year of university when it seemed like the perfect food to make with little time and a kitchen the size of a shoe closet.

Indigobloom

Mmmmm cream of wheat… so good. and guess what I had for breakfast yesterday?! (I’m not kidding either)

nomadinjeopardy

Oh man! You’re inspiring some Cream of Wheat cravings. My roommate always thought it was the WEIRDEST thing to eat.

SimplyJenW

I am telling you…try the Oat Bran. 6 grams of dietary fiber and 3 of them are the insoluble kind that help your cholesterol…. ;)

SimplyJenW

Or is that the soluble kind…. Either way, you get 3!

drank Pumpkin Chai by DAVIDsTEA

Tea of the afternoon…..

I am enjoying this one, but I think I prefer having chai of a spicier kind. Not likely to be on a rebuy list for me, but it is nice. See my other notes……

Boiling 4 min, 0 sec
Plunkybug

Chai with oomph…Saigon Chai from DAVIDs. The peppercorns and all make it a very spicy blend, so much so that the Pumpkin Chai is underwhelming in comparison (though the Pumpkin has it’s redeeming qualities).

Second breakfast tea…..

I just noticed the last few pots of tea I have made have been a little on the strong side… And then I remembered that the difference coincided with my replacing our water filters. Let this be a lesson that better filtration on the water makes it so you need less tea! Or that you can simply taste the flaavors in it better…..

Good, but as I said, a little on the strong side even though I was careful not to do heaping spoons. I have just a little over an ounce left of this blend. It is still rosey and wonderful.

Tea of the evening….

This one is growing on me. It ia pretty good for a honeybush blend, even though there are others that I like better. The chocolate flavor is light, but natural tasting, and all the other flavors go with it nicely. I may even repurchase….

Steeped the usual way for 7 minutes…

ChOTD…..

Finally, we are at a mix that is really good. Perfect level of spice. Never will this be able to be duplicated…..so I will just enjoy. By the time I finished adding things, I have just over 4 ounces. My tin is full!

Made up in the usual pan method with two heaping perfect teaspoons of chai.

Yep…still love his one. Smooth Ceylon tea with notes of caramel. Gotta love it when you get the flavor naturally.

Steeped by the usual parameters.

Tea of the evening…..

I have done it…..I found a rooibos I really like. I think part of it has to do with the fact that the rooibos plays such a small role in this brew. It is all cinnamon, all the time. It tastes much like its caffeined black tea counterpart (which I do prefer), but it is nice to have a non-caffeine alternative. Yep…red hots in a cup. This flavor is so wonderful in cool weather!

24 oz teapot, 4 1/2 actual tsp rooibos blend, freshly boiled water, 7 minutes. Very lightly sweetened.

Well done on finding a rooibos you like! I laughed when I read your review because I know that feeling: ‘finally, I get it!’

I only recently stumbled upon a rooibos I like and now I’m in LOVE with the type but before that I really was perplexed by the trend, it’s nice to be in the know. ;)

They make an herbal too…good thing I’m going to tour the factory and hit the tasting room in two weeks!

SimplyJenW

You will enjoy the tasting room! I did not have time to go to the factory…jealous!

SimplyJenW

Oh, and lunch was lovely!

IllBeMother221B

We’re going on a Tuesday when the factory is in full swing. But I am also looking forward to the tasting room and lunch!

TeaBrat

D’oh! I wish I had ordered some of this…

IllBeMother221B

I just happen to be drinking this same tea! I wish I was into a good book instead of work…
Happy Friday Afternoon!

QuiltGuppy

Which book?

SimplyJenW

Ha..I am finally getting around to working my way through the Girl With the Dragon Tatoo series. I am one of those people that once I get into a book, all else in the world pretty much screetches to a hault. I think Three Cups of Tea is next, but I kind of want to read up on some of the controversy first… Then probably Terry Pratchett or a Cornelia Funke book…I try to read ahead of my kids a little to know what they are reading.

teawing

Started a re-read of the Hobbit (gotta love those Tooks and Bagginses) last night, before that was a history of the Battle (s) of Ypres during WWI. Time for something…lighter. I will be interested in your take on Three Cups…

ashmanra

Love Pratchett! I need to re-read Night Watch and Feet Of Clay soon!

mpierce87

@SimplyJenW ~ I am currently reading Inkheart by Cornelia Funke and it is pretty awesome!

SimplyJenW

@ashmanra-I just discovered Pratchett, so I have a long way to go!
@mrawlins2-That is one of my favorite series of books! We have her latest Reckless. My DS is a voracious reader and it is really hard to keep him in age appropriate books (he is 12).

ashmanra

Jen, for your sone I recommend the Ralph Moody books in order, starting with Little Britches: Father and I Were Ranchers. I sobbed so hard reading it aloud to my children at the end of the book, that my then 10 year old son stood behind me patting my shoulder! But they are excellent books and a true story. The Home Ranch has a little cursing from the cowboys, but nothing too bad.

SimplyJenW

Thank you, ashmanra…I just put the first one on hold at the library! He can handle a little cursing, I am just trying to stay away from themes that are too adult.

Bio

My motto: Drink the good tea!

Tea enthusiast, trying to keep up my cardio for the zombie apocalypse. I have come to accept that I am a western brewing black tea drinker as that is where my ‘tea heart’ lies. I started on loose leaf as a way to have my dessert and not suffer the caloric issues. Once I tried it, I was hooked.

I drink what I like, which is mostly China blacks, a few traditionally scented blacks and Earl Greys, plus a flavored tea here and there. I don’t mind spending a bit on premium varieties on occasion, but an expensive tea has to deliver. My favorite places to order are Harney & Sons and Upton Tea Imports. TeaVivre is great for Chinese tea.

My ratings are pretty subjective. If it falls under 70, I may not take the time to post about it unless I had something specific to say. If it is 70-80 I like it, but I will probably not rebuy. Favorites are over 80 and up, but sometimes the less expensive or more easily obtainable version of a similar taste will win out for my cupboard space.

Usual teapot steeping method: 24 oz teapot, 3 perfect scoops of tea (4 1/2 actual tsp), freshly boiled water, 4 minutes. Lightly sweetened.

Usual mug steeping method: 15 oz mug, 1.5 perfect scoops of tea (just over 2 actual tsp), freshly boiled water, 4 minutes. Lightly sweetened.

Usual pan method: 1 1/2 cups water, 2 perfect tsp chai (3 actual tsp). Simmer for 3 minutes. Add 2/3 cup skim milk. Simmer for 2 more minutes. Strain and sweeten.

Usual pitcher method:
5 or 6 Perfect Spoons of tea (this means about 7-9 actual tsp), freshly boiled water, brewed essentially double-strong in my 24 oz teapot for 4 minutes. Fill my Fiestaware Disc pitcher (about 60 oz.) halfway with ice. Add brewed double-strong tea to the pitcher. Stir it a little and enjoy. No additions.

(*SRP is my Sample/Stash Reduction Plan starting on April 12, 2012. I got so far, but just decided it was too fussy to keep track.)
