2291 Tasting Notes
I took these camping this weekend (with some other teas, but forgot the tea bags/strainer), and OMG. SO GOOD.
I could let them steep for ages, and in a 12 oz cup 2 of them gave me 3 good cups of tea. Plus, it was really fun pulling them out of my ceramic mug and holding them up (like kraken! or sea urchins!) when people asked me what I was drinking. :D
Preparation
I have the 2013 harvest, from MissB! Thank you!
I enjoyed it in my neat-o little teapot (see a couple posts ago for a pic? IDK.) this evening. Probably 5 steeps worth. It was delicious. So delicious, that it’s the ONLY TEA I’m taking camping this weekend. Camping in what will possibly be the gross and disgusting rain.
But still. Delicious tea. Rain. Wooly blankets. A book to read. Ooo, a book to read. I should get on that.
Preparation
Another tea to try from MissB. Thank you!
This one isn’t bad, but I don’t think it’s as good as it probably once was. I’m enjoying it with milk, but even with a short 2 minute steep, it’s pretty astringent and a little bitter.
The caramel-vanilla flavours are excellent, and it smells really nice. But I don’t think this is a favourite.
Another tea from Christina!
It’s actually pretty decent. Nice mild herbal lemonish flavour. Reading her notes, it seems like this would be much better freshly dried and whole, instead of crushed bits in paper… but still! I enjoyed it tonight with the banana bread muffins I made.

I didn’t use walnuts, and I used a gluten free flour blend based on buckwheat. Forgot to add the chocolate chips too. Everybody knows that banana bread needs chocolate chips, not walnuts! ;)
This smells like nutty baked goods when sniffed in the packet. However, once steeped the tea is incredibly drying. I do like the flavours, but something about either the tea base or the flavourings is almost giving me dry mouth.
Thanks so so much to the ever generous MissB.
OH MY STARS. Thank you, Christina!!! Thank you SO MUCH.
SO GOOD. It’s toasted cereal breadness delicious tastiness. I added a little maple sugar, because why not.
I like this so much. So, so much. :D
Thanks for sharing!
Not yet! I should, right? AND eat some peanut butter, because all the notes talk about the delicious peanut-ness of it.
OK that was pretty good! Not 100% sure about the texture, but the flavour was nice. And also this tea is excellent with a spoonful of peanut butter on the side. :D
And they’re back. WHEW drama. Ok. Time to step away from the computer. Now that there’s peanut butter on the keyboard of course.
I _know-! It’s fucking delicious. Sometimes what I do is take the leftover buckwheat grains and have them with some yogurt for breakfast the following morning.
Intriguing! I had to go to the listing to see what this was all about. I don’t know if I have ever had a buckwheat tea before. I do like buckwheat though.
I have no idea if this is similar to other buckwheat teas. It’s just really really good! I went thread shopping today (yes, thread shopping, for hand sewing) and ended up at 3 different asian markets and none of them had sobacha. They had roasted corn tea, and roasted barley tea. I wasn’t curious enough to try the corn though.
This is basically just delicious toasted grains. Really toasty and warm and bread-like.
Snagged the last of this from MissB this evening. So happy I did. I iced it. I love this tea. It’s so freaking good, and the one place I know that sells it is just over an hour away… so not really a place I can just pop into to pick more up.
Thank you SO MUCH for this evening, MissB!!
Preparation
I got this a while back via Sil from MissB!
O. M. G. This tea is AMAZING. WHOA. I LOVE IT PLEASE CAN I HAVE MORE OMG.
Apparently it’s Damman Freres, so I’m sure I’ll be able to find it somewhere.
It’s SO FLAVOURFUL. I didn’t actually pick up on the cinnamon, mostly just intense floral (orange!) and the grapefruit and such complexity!
I’ve been steeping it in my new wee tea pot thinger IDEK, 20 seconds the first cup and 30-ish seconds the second cup. So good.
Thanks so much, MissB!
It’s one of those super weird teas that’s so intensely and differently flavoured that ♥!!! I don’t think I’d like to drink it all the time. I mean, I have a bunch of Earl of Anxi that’s about the same idea of this, and I rarely drink it…
Another tea sent to me by Christina. Thank you!
I was really surprised by this tea, and kind of regret leaving it out on the counter during fruit fly season.
I steeped 2 minutes at 195, and I used the WHOLE SAMPLE in my giant mug. :) Initially I was rather concerned because it smelled a little like steamed greens. However, as it cooled it was really quite tasty. Not sharp or “cold” at all like some of the other large leafed nilgiri teas I’ve tried. Almost… fruity? I’m not really sure how to describe it, but I did enjoy it.
Edit: Ok, I was right. It’s a Canadian company! Definitely a place I need to order from in the future. :)
Preparation
I wonder if this is like David’s Tea’s Blue Mountain Twirl? I think that was a green that had almost a back feel that was almost like a black, or at least that is how they categorized it…and I think it was Nilgiri? I may be wrong. I’ll need to go check this listing out!
I can send you more of this if you want. The first time I tried it it had some camphor/eucalyptus notes that I really liked, but I haven’t been able to replicate that.
