88 Tasting Notes
Smells pretty good in the tin, like a gooey, spiced apple pie. The taste is like sour, unsweetened lemonade, though. It makes my throat feel scratchy and my lips pucker. I guess that it’s the hibiscus and pineapple giving it that intense, sour, acidic flavor. Really disappointing.
I really wish this had more of a white chocolate/vanilla taste to it, but I don’t get anything but the strong cranberry from it. It’s like a tart fruit juice. I’ve had it iced and hot, and it tastes the same. I’ve been pretty disappointed with all of DT’s new holiday teas this year, because none of them were as sweet or unique as I was expecting based on their names.
First sip is pleasant, like tasting the light vanilla orange glaze on a scone (no scone/buttery flavor for me, but the vanilla frosting and orange zest is there), but the aftertaste is a lot of bitter orange peel and bitter rosehips for me, and I find that rather unpleasant. The flavor was light, even using double the amount of tea that I normally would.
On my second try of this, I found the orange peel to be too bitter again, and something tasted strangely dry and herbal.
This smells SO GOOD, like salted caramel, popcorn and vanilla… but the taste is so sour and acidic. I don’t know why they put elderberries, raspberry and sour cherry in this, but the berries definitely overpower the sweet flavors for me. The weird, sour flavor actually reminds me a little of vomit (sorry to be gross). I gave it to my best friend, who likes fruity/berry/sour teas, and even he refused to drink it. It’s really vile to me.

i too dont get why they’d put the berries! I dont get why they decided to put hibiscus in the Sleigh Ride Tea either…Sleigh Ride smells amazing and i can tell it would taste great without the hibiscus. Idk why these tea companies so often ruin the tea with one or two ingredients doesn’t make sense! Especially when, if the company took a look at the reviews, nearly EVERYONE asks them to take the ingredient out- but they never do!
I wanted this to be spicier and more interesting than it is. I don’t get much chai taste or spiciness in general. It’s a toasty, warm, chocolate tea with a tiny hint of spice. I have chocolate teas that I prefer over this one (mainly the Hot Chocolate tea and Red Velvet Cake tea from David’sTea).
I have mixed feelings about Blueberry Muffin. I like it better cold, as it really does have a golden, buttery, muffin hint to it, along with the sweet berry taste. Hot, it’s all sour berries and I can taste an earthy, sour, pickled note from the beet root (I know that David’sTea uses beet root to dye the tea color pink, but I don’t really need my tea to be pink and I don’t want to taste beets). Sometimes this comes off as really sour and earthy, and other times it actually tastes something like a blueberry muffin. It’s better to me once it has cooled all the way off.
I love oolongs. My favorite oolong from David’s Tea will always be the Vanilla Orchid, but this is nice too. It has a comforting, slightly sweet, powdered milk flavor to it. I like their Butter Sencha green tea more for a similar, but more complex and sweet, flavor profile.
