558 Tasting Notes
Thanks to Rabs and the geek pride give away, this tea was mine after rolling an 8 today. This deliciously rich amber brew held up well to a little cream and sugar and was just what I needed to lighten my spirits today. Thankfully there are a few cups worth to this sample. I can’t wait to make a pot tomorrow morning!
Thanks to Rachel for sending me some great samples. This was the first I tried. I drank it before looking up what flavors went into it and swear I could taste some cherry apricot wonderfulness in the fruity sweetness of this tea. I thunk this blend would be better iced, it had a tad too much going on for how I enjoy my green teas.
Made up a big pitcher of this iced today. Had several cups throughout the afternoon. Not sure what it is in this tea that makes the water so murky, but it was definitely a thick tea. Not getting a black forest cake flavor, mostly just a black tea with bing cherry flavor, but I do enjoy it iced.
Made a big pitcher of this iced last night using a concentrated hot brew and adding 1/2 water/ice cubes to make up the rest of the mix. I really am enjoying this iced. May have to purchase again next summer, as I have enough teas I enjoy iced to last a year. I was worried that this tea lost flavor, as I had a cup hot last night and it wasn’t very flavorful. It really is shining through with bright citrus flavor (orange/lemongrassy) in this iced blend. Added a bit of sweetner for the iced blend. It’s making a great post workout drink!
Blah. Must be picking the wrong teas tonight. Great scent of blackberry but not much taste. Not smelling or tasting any sage. I think I will treat myself to some hibiscus tea that I love since I’ve had two mediocre cups.
You stopped me from buying it – I trust your judgment. Guess I’ll have to find a way to craft my own blackberry and sage tea…with mint, of course! :)
Unimpressed with this tea tonight. I was craving this as a strong dessert tea but it tasted watered down tonight. Maybe it needed some sugar, maybe it got too much air and light. I gave it to my hubby to drink. At least he enjoyed the cinnamon spice in it. Off to brew another cup.
More geek pride teas to come in the near future. Life has been hectic and I haven’t been logging my teas.
The pic looks exactly like Almond Cookie and Almond Butter teas. Three companies re-packaging the same tea? I wish I knew for sure.
Lena, I’ve tried them both and they are similar Almond Butter and Brioche. I haven’t tried almond cookie.
Yay! High roller last night. Must have needed the boost after my two 11 hour shifts. This tea was quite a curiousity. I’ve never had dates or date tea. Also it looked quite different from other instant teas i’ve tried. It isn’t a powdered instant tea it’s a crystalized instant tea. After brewing it smelled of honey and fruit and a little bit of black tea. I took just a few sips of this brewed as it is sooo sugary I just couldn’t drink it. I passed along to my husband who ha it gone in a few sips. If he weren’t diabetic I’d find where we could get more. He liked it so much it would be great to get it for him as he hardly enjoys my teas. I’m not sure how to rate this one yet.
Thanks Rabs for the chance to roll the dice and play the game.
This was courtesy of the very generous AmazonV who sent me extra packets to be part of the Geek packages :D She’s the bestest!
aww thanks Rabs
Too bad this was too sweet for you – how much water did you use? I had to use about 16+ ounces to drink it and i love sugar!
I used 16oz as well. It had a good flavor, and maybe I’ll let it cool more next time. I usually use 4-5 small rock sugar crystals in my 16oz mug. Just enough to bring out some flavored teas fruity goodness. I’m more fond of sugar when it’s in my baked goods than in beverages. I think it’s because I grew up with diet pop my sugar taste buds have been harmed:(
Mmmm…pie. This tea won me over from it’s name alone. It is the first tea I am sampling from a Adagio Signature Blend traveling tea box over on teachat. The bag just had a few teaspoons left so this will be my only cup. Their wasn’t much scent tithe leaves, but that may be due tithe fact that the box has been traveling for 15 months o_O. I’m getting apple flavor on several sips, mixed with a bakery sweetness (maybe from the almond)? I am really enjoying this tea and may have to pick up a bag when I finally place an adagio order.
Rolled another “1” this morning and this was the tea to drink. This was my first pu. I don’t think it will be my last. But it will definitely take my tastebuds a LONG time to start tasting more than dirt and earthworms. I’m sharing my geek pride tea with my husband and I believe this has been the second most awful (just slightly higher than the other “1” tea). I couldn’t handle more than three sips of this tea. It is just not my thing.
Meghann M, did you do a longer steep like 3-5min? You may be like me and prefer a short steep following a rinse. And if you still find shu pu erh isn’t your thing, still try sheng. (IMO) it’s SO much better:)
Once I get through more teas in my cupboard I may try another. I still have yet to try the GM chai pu-erh. I can’t remember if that is the only pu in the sampler pack…if not, i have experiences ahead of me!
Oh, and I did do a longer steep. It was around 4 minutes as that’s what the bag suggested.
Oh so sorry! This version was my first Pu Erh too and I found it utterly nasty. There is another one in the GM packet and it’s much much better than this. This is vile. :P I’m so proud that you made it three sips (I think I made it through 1/3 of the cup). This tea was the inspiration for the “3 sip” rule. ::shudders::
Oops — I’m the DM and forgot my own rule: it’s the “1 sip” rule (not 3 sips). Huh, I think that I was too nice rule-wise ;)
You may have been too nice, 3 sips was alright…they were tiny sips. Because the tea was hot, yes, that is why, the tea was hot, very hot!
Glad to hear GM’s are better. I may give one from the sampler a try tomorrow. I’ve had too much black tea this evening. Suffering from a bit of a caffeine high. Must go for a walk or something!
