Sipdown! (23 | 300)

So I do quite enjoy this one. The jasmine could be a bit stronger IMO, as I only really get a hint of it currently. I like the level of hibiscus, it adds a nice gentle tartness without being sour. It’s honestly hard to tell if I’m getting orange because of the hibiscus, and I really like Deb’s orange teas, so maybe a bit more orange would be nice as well. I do taste the familiar acrid sort of tartness of dried apple.

I will say this tea requires overleafing, as I think most of her teas do (because there’s no flavoring), otherwise it tastes like bland, slightly hibiscus-flavored water. With a bit more leaf, it does remind me of a tarter fruit punch with a hint of jasmine.

I don’t think this blend is around anymore unfortunately, not sure if it’ll come back for summer or if it’s just gone for good…

(P.S. – Yay, 300 sipdowns for the year so far! \o/)

Congrats on 300, are you doing it per package or when the tea is completely of your stash? PS 2 notes ago you said 299, then last note said sipdown with no number, then this one said 300 so I’m not sure if this is 300 or 301?

It sort of depends ha ha. If I have multiple full-sized packages, I count each one separately. But for wrapped teabags and Teavivre samples (which are usually in pairs) I count all as one sipdown.

The white2tea coins were never added to my cupboard and I didn’t really want to bother doing it now, so that’s why I haven’t been including them in my count.

Ah, that’s fine about the white2tea coins, just wanted to let you know I’m paying attention and didn’t want any tea to not get credit! haha I know with teas since I write my notes in a similar format I’m always checking to make sure everything gets it’s due. :)

Do you have a specific goal for the year of totals? I’m generally counting each time a package/tea bag/sample/etc. is finished so I’ll have a trillion tasting notes at the end of my lifetime is steepster makes it that long! But I have recently being drinking/finding in my stash boxes of tea bags and think I need to make them per box instead of each cuppa. I don’t know. I guess whatever system works for each person.

Sorry for the ramble like usual. Hope you are having a good Tuesday morning Cameron!

My goal so far has been to get two sipdowns in per day, though I’m a bit behind this month. And you’re completely right that counting sipdowns is totally subjective and whatever works best for you is the right way to go.

Hi, I’m Cameron!

I’m a 30-something software engineer currently living in Austin, Texas with my husband and our two pugs, Gobo and Ume. I tend to cycle between my different hobbies, and they include piano, knitting, video games, board games, miniature painting, planners, bento, Korean skincare, and – of course – TEA! But really, what I’m best at is “collecting” hobby-related things… ;)

~ 2024 SIPDOWN CHALLENGE! ~
- December sipdowns: 0
- Total 2024 sipdowns: 156

I prefer my tea lukewarm or at room temperature and without milk or sugar. I steep Western style, and fluctuate between using big mugs or small teapots depending on the season.

I am always up for a swap! Just let me know if you’d like to try something in my cupboard.

Tea Preferences:
I enjoy both flavored and unflavored teas in many forms. These days, I drink mostly flavored teas, and I tend to gravitate most toward black, green, oolong, and herbal varieties. I do have a special fondness for straight Japanese green teas, however.

I do not sweeten my teas, and pre-sweetened teas are usually too sweet for me. I also do not enjoy stevia.

I tend to reach for fruitier flavors rather than desserty ones these days, but I do have favorites from both categories. Willing to try anything once! There are a few ingredients/flavors that aren’t generally my jam, such as coconut, rose, lavender, and chocolate flavoring. But I also have teas that I love with some of those things, too! :)

Favorite Companies:
3 Leaf
Bird & Blend
Dammann Frères
Harney & Sons
Kyoto Obubu Tea Farms
Lupicia
Old Barrel Tea Co
Simpson & Vail
Taiwan Tea Crafts
TeaVivre

Tea Rating Scale:
90-100: Outstanding! Permanent cupboard resident
80-89: Great – a possible staple
70-79: Good, but I wouldn’t buy it
60-69: It’s decent
50-59: Meh… I may or may not have finished the cup
40-49: Ick. Couldn’t finish it.
00-39: Repulsive, I spat it out

I will sometimes refrain from rating a tea if I feel I’m too biased due to my personal dislikes, or if I suspect the sample has been compromised by age or scent contamination.
