From DAVIDsTEA

It’s all about the leaf

Looking for a taste of Canada? Try this red rooibos tea. It’s sweetened with (what else?) maple syrup and sprinkled with delicious maple leaf candies. Plus it’s 100% diplomatic (well, caffeine-free) and tastes great in both our official languages. With green rooibos, honeybush, caramel and toffee bits to shake things up. A truly authentic Canadian experience.

Ingredients: South African green and red rooibos, honeybush, caramel bits, toffee bits, candy leaves, artificial and natural flavouring*.

Allergens: Soy, dairy and tree nuts

My favourite rooibos from David’s Tea of all time. The aroma is to die for. And the colour is pretty. The taste is tinged with the flavour or maple syrup and is quite refreshing. I drink it all year round and as a latte during winter to keep warm.
Its also good with pancakes XD <(‾◡° ).

Rooibos is amazing! It’s my go to anytime I want something slightly sweet or a change for just cold water. It’s a nice cleanser after a salty meal or snack too.

I boldly ordered 100g of this without so much as smelling it back when David’s Tea was doing free shipping for a weekend or something. I was so confident that it would be great and the reviews are all so good..
I don’t understand. I must be the worst Canadian; I taste/smell absolutely no maple, nothing sweet, no caramel. It’s just wheaty, or like hay and woody.. I do taste a bit of vanilla, I guess that’s something
It’s just been sitting on my shelf taunting me. I tried to make an extra strong cup of it today, partly to get rid of as much as I could, partly with a desperate hope to actually taste some maple. No luck.

But it doesn’t taste as bad as it smells

I am experimenting with making my own blends from David’s Teas.

I love Rooibos tea but Mixing Oh Canada! & Birthday Cake together was not much of an eye opener. It’s just a stronger tea but that’s probably due to the amount. I don’t really detect a difference or blending of flavors. It is still a wonderful tea but I’ll still be looking for a more creative blend.

For my second steep I broke one of my tea rules and added a sweetener. I added spelnda french vanilla and it changed everything. Just the enhanced flavors jumping out at me, catching me by my surprise. I definitely recommend adding a little bit of a sweetener to those who want an experienced with their tea.

Books recommended for this tea are: Misery by Stephen King, The Weight of Silence

Maple?! Tea?! I felt like there was no way I wouldn’t love this, so I got 50 grams. Note to self: Don’t do that.

So I suppose it is exactly what it’s supposed to be. It tastes like maple. It’s sweet. I just… didn’t care for it. Was too syrupy to me, left a weird “scrape my tongue off” feeling in my mouth after drinking it. I might’ve expected a bit much from it though, I don’t know. I’ll finish my 50g slowly, pass it around to whoever wants to try it. It just isn’t my thing, surprisingly considering I tend to like the sweet desserty teas.

Overboard TTB #1

My sister just came downstairs and said suspiciously, “The house smells like maple syrup. Is that your tea?” Why yes, it is! :D This stuff is amazing! Both dry and steeped, it smells just like real maple syrup and the flavor is natural but sweet. Piping hot, I was picking up a little bit of the rooibos base, but the maple flavor took over completely as it cooled. A very tasty bedtime treat and a great start to this massive TTB!

I really hate rooibos, but by goodness I keep trying!
Grabbed this one as I had a sample for it, and it was my TeaFF’s birthday, so long distance teatimes were in order. It smells delightfully like maple which gave me hope that it would not be disgusting…. and its not! Hurray! A rooibos worth drinking! It tastes like the perfect marriage of caramel and maple; not overpowering in any one part, and not oversweet. I enjoyed this!

Oh Ost you’ve spoiled me with all the lovely samples! I’m rich! My cupboard is huge!
I really, really hate to clean rooibos out of a strainer, but fortunately I have all these little paper pouches, to create my own “tea bags”, so that’s what I used to try this sample.
Its a bit woody, but its got an underlying creaminess that is quite pleasant. I smell the maple more than I taste it, but its still there.
And I have enough for another cup! Hurrah! I love new teas.

I tried Oh Canada with some agave, brown sugar and 2% milk. The main flavour is definitely maple syrup, and adding some sweetener really brings out that flavour.
