From DAVIDsTEA

It’s all about the leaf

Looking for a taste of Canada? Try this red rooibos tea. It’s sweetened with (what else?) maple syrup and sprinkled with delicious maple leaf candies. Plus it’s 100% diplomatic (well, caffeine-free) and tastes great in both our official languages. With green rooibos, honeybush, caramel and toffee bits to shake things up. A truly authentic Canadian experience.

Ingredients: South African green and red rooibos, honeybush, caramel bits, toffee bits, candy leaves, artificial and natural flavouring*.

Allergens: Soy, dairy and tree nuts

Trick or Treat! This sample was a freebie kindly provided to me from Ost during her cupboard sale, so thank you Ost! I’ve been trying so hard all month to finish off my Creme au Caramel Rooibos which is one of my oldest teas (from 2006) because the flavor has faded now to the point where it is just kinda meh (I don’t normally sweeten my teas, but I have to now add either cocoa shells or honey to it since the flavoring just doesn’t taste like it used to be) and I’m kind of hankering for a proper caramely rooibos that hasn’t lost its touch… and this blend is also supposed to have maple! Man, but do I love maple.

I steeped up a pretty bold cup and have to say that after working on sipping down weak-sauce caramel rooibos for a month, this was soooooooo nice! It did have a nice caramely base, that reminded me a lot of a thick caramel sauce, but what really did it for me was that maple! I could definitely taste notes of sweet maple, brown sugar, and burnt sugar, and that just sold me. I think I’d be far more interested in restocking my caramel rooibos with this blend and having that sweet sweet touch of maple added instead of my previous Creme au Caramel blend. The maple flavor just makes everything better.

Hmm, I have a vacation to the Bay Area coming up, and they have DAVIDsTEA there…

Yeah, this is a good one. I recommend Cardamon French Toast too.

This is such a lovely and forgiving tea. I’ve used entirely too hot water and I’ve forgotten about my cup and left it for too long, and it still always turns out delicious. It is fool proof and comes out with a yummy, strong, maple cream flavor every time. The taste reminds me of the maple glazed, cream filled donuts at Tim Hortons, actually. Very Canadian and very tasty. It’s one of the strongest dessert teas I own, and one that I keep repurchasing.

Maple all the things!

Growing up in Canada, if there’s one thing from my childhood (and maybe a bit of my adulthood) I always remember in fondness it’s without a doubt Maple Leaf candies. I’m talking about the one made out of maple sugar and not the one made of maple syrup. There IS a difference between the both. When Spring can be smelled on the winds, you know those will soon be available. There’s nothing quite like taking one of those candies and letting it melt in your mouth. The burst of maple is pure heaven!

I never thought I would find the same sort of taste but minus the sugar in a tea! I had a cup brewed today in my local DT’s shop and I swear I had the loudest “OMFG!!!!” moment. Sure, people gave me a wide berth, and I’m sure a few actually called the nearest asylum to ask if any of their patients had escaped but I did not give a whoopin’ funt! Why? I was drinking the most blissful tea I had ever drank!

The taste of maple is all that comes across, the Rooibos the perfect vehicle for the savour. It would make a great latte but perhaps not a good iced tea (I may be wrong in that assumption though) It’s not sugary and yet there’s this hint of sweetness in the aftertaste.

Truly it’s a great tea for those who love maple flavour. Definitely a new favourite of mine.

While I’m not a huge fan of red rooibos teas, I enjoy this one for it’s cute little maple leaf sprinkles. Other than that it’s a maple tea – does what it says on the tin. It does combine nicely with DT’s Blueberry Jam – you end up with something tasting a bit like blueberry pancakes.

This is one of my absolute favorite teas!!! This tea is a hug in a cup and is so insanely comforting. I love rooibos so this is one of the teas that is perfect for my tastes plus it has maple syrup flavoring and adorable little maple leaf sprinkles. This tea is one of my top three favorites from DavidsTea and I drink it whenever I have the chance.

It’s not listed on the ingredients list, but I’m getting the overwhelming taste of stevia or some other bitter, artificial sweetener. This has happened with a few of David’s Teas offerings; I wish they’d back off the fake stuff and rely on the tea itself. I’ll add sugar if I want it.

Meh. Bought this tea around Easter time for the concept of sugar shacks and all. Tastes good with a dominant maple syrup flavor. But all in all, I won’t buy this one again.

Thanks to my friend SuperStarling! for sending me this tea. She is very considerate and tries to send me a mix of caffeine free teas that I can have when caffeine intake is not advisable for me (such as right now. One small latte is enough for me today).

The scent of the dry tea reminds me of a pipe tobacco. Very sweet and syrupy smelling with a woody note. The flavor of the tea is much like that. A little heavier on the woody notes and not quite as sweet but the hint of maple is evident. A nice sipper on this cold and windy spring afternoon.

A swing and a miss. Sigh
I was caught up by the wall of tea, the aromas wafting toward me, the fun music playing in the background. I can’t enter a David’s without leaving with a few extra ounces of tea outside of the particular tea I came for initially.

Lots of honeybush, a little artificial maple syrup, some earthy undertones. Not what I was expecting or wanting quite frankly. I was looking for a creamy maple flavor akin to a bottle of Canadian maple syrup brought to me as a gift from a friend. This is not it.

This was the first tea that I ever tried from DavidsTea and I just had it again last night and I still like it although it’s not my favorite. The smell really carries and it definitely smells of maple. It is a more subtle tea, but I still got good maple flavor and is great for when you want something sweet without the heaviness of sweets.
