From DAVIDsTEA

It’s all about the leaf

Looking for a taste of Canada? Try this red rooibos tea. It’s sweetened with (what else?) maple syrup and sprinkled with delicious maple leaf candies. Plus it’s 100% diplomatic (well, caffeine-free) and tastes great in both our official languages. With green rooibos, honeybush, caramel and toffee bits to shake things up. A truly authentic Canadian experience.

Ingredients: South African green and red rooibos, honeybush, caramel bits, toffee bits, candy leaves, artificial and natural flavouring*.

Allergens: Soy, dairy and tree nuts

I was fully expecting to love, love, love this one. I think I may have gotten my expectations too high because, while I like it, it’s not rockin’ my socks the way I thought it would. There is a nice maple flavor and some creaminess, but I’ve had other maple flavored teas that I enjoyed more.

Backlog:

Scrumptious! Lovely maple notes. I like the way the nutty tones of the rooibos meld with the maple-y flavors. It’s almost pancake-y, but a very sweet pancake breakfast. The toffee is not something I’d usually put on a pancake, but, hey … it goes good with the rooibos and the maple so I’m not knocking it.

Yummy. This should be a must try for fans of maple.

My last sample from Ost. This is a tea I’ve been curious about for a while now, as I generally love maple things. I’ve tried a couple of other maple teas, and they’ve been decent but not amazing.

This one also falls into the “fairly good” category. I would really like more maple flavor, as I can mostly taste it in the aftertaste and as a slight building flavor when I drink multiple sips. Mostly I taste rooibos.

Have you tried their Birthday Cake? Oddly enough, I swear that one is heavier on the maple. It’s like maple-flavoured icing.

Cameron B.

Ooh, sounds yummy. I’ll have to keep that in mind for swaps. :)

Fjellrev

I’m pretty sure it’s permanent too. You don’t have a David’s anywhere near you, eh? I take that for granted, I guess. :)

Cameron B.

I think the closest one is about 4 hours away. Womp womp… :P

Fjellrev

Wow, what a bummer. Well, if we ever do a trade, I could always send you some since I’m surrounded by them haha.

And to be warned though, it’s one of those teas that leaves a nasty scum ring from all of the flavouring oils. Guess that’s what David’s has to do with their rooibos in order to make them taste like more than just wood.

Kittenna

Agreed, Birthday Cake is a better version of maple than Oh Canada! :)

It is a great tea once in a while, but not something I can drink all the time.

Haven’t had this tea in a while, and since I was only supposed to be drinking low caffeine teas earlier today, I decided this was a good one to have.
Not quite as good as I remember, but it’s still a good, sweet, syrup-y tea. I say it’s not as good as I remember because there is a lot of rooibos taste in the cup I had. But it wasn’t too overpowering. So still good in my book. But the rating has just dropped a bit.

This tea is reasonably good. It is not incredible. The maple syrup flavor is fairly accurate but I think it is a combination of caramel, toffee, and natural and artificial flavor. Nowhere does the David’s Tea website list this as having any “Maple” in it. Still, its not bad, just not incredible like a good maple syrup. I can’t taste the rooibos in this and I like rooibos flavor. I just wish I had known there wasn’t any “Maple” in it when I bought it. I would have bought something else. Of the eight teas I bought from David’s Tea, one has been horrible, four have been great, two have been decect, and the eighth I have not yet gotten around to trying. If anyone wants to sample some of these teas in my cupboard from David’s Teas let me know, we can work out a swap.

I brewed this once in an 18oz teapot with 2.5 tsp leaf and boiling water for 5 min. One further note, the flavor of this tea seems to get less intense and better as it cools. Some teas are like that, don’t know why.

This tea satisfied my craving for pancakes with maple syrup in an instant. Though I am not a huge toffee/caramel fan, it certainly did the trick. Would I get this tea again? I definitely would!

I actually only bought this tea because I wanted to try it with Blueberry Jam, since the combo smelled amazing in the store. I tried them both together and it was rather good, which was a relief since I didn’t like Blueberry Jam by itself.

Then I realized that this tea has honeybush in it, and I hate honeybush :(

But. I tried this tea by itself and despite the honeybush, it’s too delicious and sweet not to like! It’s a slightly smoother, different pumpkin-like flavor when milk is added, and yes, I think I’m going back to buy more.

I love making this tea hot. It is rich and maple syruppy. It is very comforting, and I actually prefer it over Birthday Cake. It is definitely more flavorful, and with a little sugar, is a perfect dessert tea.
