658 Tasting Notes
Blagh! I don’t know if I somehow made an awful mistake when preparing this, but it was totally undrinkable. It smelled and tasted like I had steeped some ashes. The dry tea smelled pretty interesting and a bit fruity so I was hoping for something at least passable!
I received my SpecialTeas end-of-year sale splurge shipment last night and brewed this one up when I got home. The pina colada taste is spot on! I feel like I can taste the rum. I should try it iced.
Yes, this was nice and a relief after some of my less great flavoured rooibos experiences lately.
I had less of this than I thought left in my bag yesterday. But, it was the only black tea I had available at work and I really needed any caffeine available so I made a cup. It was weak due to the small quantity of leaf, but still delicious! I’m so shocked at how much I like this one as mint in tea usually makes me run for the hills. When I shared it with my family on Christmas they all loved it, too.
This isn’t bad. But, after smelling it dry I was expecting more. This seems to get pretty positive reviews, so maybe I should try steeping differently (for less time?). I agree with whoever mentioned that it tastes medicinal once brewed. There is one taste in there that’s distracting me as all I can think is GINGER. There is none in here so I don’t know what’s going on. Will try it both iced and with a splash of milk as that often works well for me with rooibos.
I think I like this one the more I drink it. It took a litle while to become accustomed to the buttery thickness, but now I love it.
It’s good to drink as work as it doesn’t lose its flavour through multiple steeps. The vanilla is nice and keeps it interesting but isn’t so out there that I find myself sick of it. To the contrary, it’s growing on me.
I was buying groceries last night and when walking by the Indian spices section decided to grab some cardamom. So, I threw this together this afternoon. These were pretty cheap grocery store spices so using more premium ingredients would, I imagine, be even better.
I simmered my spices (about 12 cardamom pods, several pieces of cinnamon bark, about 8 different-coloured peppercorns, and lots of cloves all crushed slightly with a mortar and pestle) in a cup or so of almond milk on the stove for maybe 20 minutes. I brewed one cup of strong organic Assam and mixed ’em together, letting simmer for a bit longer.
I took it to go in my Libre and it kept me warm on the streetcar. Very tasty! I’ll definitely have to play around with this, but it was fun to make and very satisfying.
