I had today off and couldn’t resist dropping by DT for the new tea of the month. This very much reminds me of Forbidden Fruit, but more tropical. It has the same juicy feel and the same dark oolong leaves. The scent of the tea dry is absolutely to die for. Mango is my favourite fruit, but this isn’t as flavourful as I’d expected.

I thought it might be an Aprl Foold because I couldn’t find it on the website yesterday…maybe they just didn’t have it up yet.

Yeah, I was suspicious of everything all day. And had never heard of Kombucha. But, it’s real and it’s tasty (and online now).

My wife loves mango tea…will have to check this one out for sure!

Like the Cinnamon Raisin Toast, I am tasting the toast in this but not so much the flavouring. It smells awesome and kind of like peanut butter, but I can’t get it in the taste. There is a bit of a nutty undertone and a slight sweetness but that’s all.

However, I am actually really liking the smokiness of this tea. Great with breakfast.

I finally got myself some vanilla beverage syrup, and just made myself a London Fog with this tea. Delicious! I need to try telling myself these are only meant as special treats, because I am going to want to drink these all day long.

Hooray! After over a month and a half, I finally received my pouch of Coconut Cheesecake.

This is delicious. As many others have noted, it’s rich and creamy and coconut-y. I am not tasting the cheesecake (maybe if I really strained?), but it’s delicious. It tastes quite like the Coconut Cream Pie, which cannot be a bad thing.

That sounds really…. yummy! :D

I just finished my huge Libre of this, and it had been in there steeping for over an hour. I think it is best this way! Delicious.

This wasn’t nearly as intense as I expected. There is a lot going on, yet it’s very mild. Once my tastebuds had settled down and embraced that this was a more subtle tea than I was bracing them for, I quite liked it. It’s a quieter tea than any of the other 52teas blends I’ve had, which is in fact nice.

The sencha is actually most prominent off the top, and it’s quite good. Light. This is more of a lightly flavoured sencha to me than a fruit tea. The fruit is more noticeable at the end of each sip/in the aftertaste. I can’t really discern any individual flavours. I’m not even going to try. But, it does remind me a lot of those little tins of fruit cocktail that everyone ate in elementary school.

Oh, this is good.

This is really good.

I really cannot stress enough that I do not need more tea. But I have a problem. I always need to keep a comfortable amount of my favourites on hand and I always feel compelled to try as many new teas as I can get my hands on. And, the new Toronto DT location is on my way to the Monday class I hate. I always stop in to cheer myself up on the way home. Thankfully/regrettably, that class is over as of next Monday’s exam and I will have to make more intentional trips up there.

Anyway, yes. I wanted a straight green this week as I hadn’t tried any from DT. I’m not sure why. I guess it’s for the same reason that there aren’t many reviews of this here; I kind of go to DT for my delicious and wild flavoured teas and elsewhere for most unflavoured ones since it is easy to overlook the understated classics when at DT. This was suggested to me and I was intrigued. I got some. I tried it tonight at work. This stuff is phenomenal. It’s gently sweet. Not very grassy, but maybe a bit of a hay thing going on. A little bit smoky and earthy, but so delicate and lovely and feels wonderful in my mouth, being just a little bit buttery. Oh man. I find it so refreshing.

This stuff is amazing. I can’t comment on subsequent infusions yet but I am now going to go re-steep my leaves.

The Annex DT? Oh gosh, I love that store. We’re planning a trip there next week, since we’ll be in the area. It’s a perfect pick-me-up!

Hoo god! You’ve tried the cream of the Sencha! Haha. But, yeah. People always speak about the fancy DT teas, but the straight teas are actually awesome too!

nomadinjeopardy

Yes, the Annex! It is lovely. The girls are so nice.

And, yes, now I’ll have to try all the straight teas.

If you like the sweet-grassiness, make sure to try Kukicha! A little expensive, but definitely unique!

I can’t quite figure out how I feel about this tea yet, and I had two cups of it today.

It smells incredibly like honey. Spot on, and very potent. While it was steeping, I could smell it across my apartment (it’s a small apartment, but this still seems impressive). It tastes nice. It’s sweet, but it’s not sickly-sweet as the scent had me worried it might be. But, despite the sweetness it’s very, very herbal.

I don’t really taste the mate, which is good for me. I don’t know how I could, with everything else that’s going on here. I think I can taste the honeybush a little, and maybe the rooibos, but it’s pretty difficult to isolate each component. Overall, it’s quite good. I don’t think it’s one I’m going to be drawn to all that often but it might be one I keep on hand for when I want to see if mate will give me energy. I haven’t liked any other mates I’ve tried, so maybe this is a good stepping stone!
