658 Tasting Notes

I grabbed lunch at a cafe before rushing to work and decided I needed tea. I tried this, since I like the rooibos chai. Won’t be ordering it again. It was pretty bland except at the end of the cup for some reason, and the anise totally put me off. Disclaimer: I hate anise in the best of cases.

Yeah, I don’t know. I just can’t really identify any flavours in this except SMOKEY, with maybe a bit of sweetness. I only steeped this for 2 minutes and 30 seconds this morning hoping that might somehow change the flavours for me but I actually found it really bitter and didn’t finish it. I don’t get it. I liked it alright last time despite not getting the peanut butter, so I will go back to a longer steep.

This came in my Den’s order a few weeks ago and to be honest I’ve been a little intimidated to try it. I wasn’t sure of the best way to prepare it, and thought it might be too much for me. Too grassy or too strong or something.

But I need to get my act together here and write an essay due tomorrow. I need tea, but am also feeling incredibly lazy.

So I decided to give this a go. Just under half a teaspoon in my Libre large (about 14 oz) of cold water and shook it all up. Awesome! This tastes really good, and so refreshing. Not out of control grassy, and not bitter. I didn’t know how I’d feel about that matcha taste cold, but it’s really good. I didn’t sift it but don’t see much clumping going on. This will be really great in summer. What could be easier?

Hey, this is pretty good!

This is left from my sampler I got some time over the winter. I was scared of it. I was really scared of it once I opened the little packet and smelled it. Even more so when I accidentally set it to steep for a minute rather than the 15 or 30 seconds recommended.

But, I actually like it. It’s very different from anything else I have. Very roasty and earthy, and I am getting a grainy or maybe popcorn flavour from it. But it’s not as heavy as I expected and it’s not bitter. Quite smooth, in fact.

Mmmm, I love houjicha. Thanks for this post, which reminded me I have about 100g of the stuff pining away, waiting to be drunk.

Ooh. I did this on the stovetop with milk but I get the impression that it would be good just steeped in water, too. Delicious. I almost sweetened this while I was at it but I’m glad I didn’t as it’s really nicely balanced. The spices are nice, prominent but not out of control, and there is an awesome sweetness, too.

Such a lovely Silver Needles. This is subtle but very fresh and crisp-tasting. A little earthy but it also has a nice, delicate sweetness to it. I haven’t found a stand-by white tea yet, but I am quite enjoying this sample and might have to pick some up to fill that gap! This has been great through two infusions and I’m going to steep it again in a little bit.

Last night I was making a no-bake cheesecake that was supposed to use pomegranate juice. I didn’t have a pomegranate so decided to use berries instead, but my berries had gone bad. So after remembering how intense this tea was, I used it instead. It turned out absolutely amazing!

I was bragging to my mom on the weekend that the I, the usually constantly-sick, didn’t get a single cold this winter. Of course last night I started feeling a bit sniffly. Today I am feeling run-down and a little congested. I have turned around several almost-colds this winter, so I hope I can do the same with this. I will be consuming a whole lot of tea today in the process, starting with this.

I think this tea would be more aptly named Forever Nuts than the one that is. So nutty! So nutty that I don’t often feel like drinking this, but when I do I love it. It’s a really pleasant, easy-going tea with a nice layering of flavours.
