658 Tasting Notes
This tea stayed loyally by my side last night while I was trying to write. I like drinking it while working as I can do multiple infusions, and getting up to heat more water and re-steep gives me excuses for little breaks!
I still didn’t make it past three infusions because that just got to be a lot of tea and not enough time. But it wasn’t slowing down at all by the third infusion. This tea is seriously awesome. Its smell blows me away with a crazy kind of heavily buttered spinach fragrance which is way better than it sounds. The liquor is mild, buttery, creamy, delicious. One of these days I am going to designate a whole day to seeing how many infusions I can get.
I had this as a latte from the shop on my way to class as I needed to wake up and be able to pay attention.
I was very pleased! I don’t know why I hadn’t thought to have a matcha latte to go before, but this is the first one I’ve felt is really flavourful even with the milk. I drink matcha often at home but had never tried any form of matcha latte, usually fearing it would be too sweet. I didn’t have any sweetener in this and it was delicious.
The matcha matsu was quite nice, as far as I could tell. It was flavourful but actually pretty delicate. It didn’t taste bitter or chalky or any of those bad things. I will wait to rate it until I try it straight, though.
I woke up to some ridiculous snow. It’s been so nice out that I’d put snow completely out of my head for at least several months. I need tea, pronto.
And then I saw the news that Elizabeth Taylor has died. I need something creamy and comforting!
This was the obvious, logical choice. It’s dependably delicious, and good for waking myself up gently and gradually.
Ugh, this snow is ridiculous! It was so nice yesterday…I quit. Hope your day gets better, I might go for a cuppa CoEG myself.
I can’t believe it! I took last night off work to get some things done and wish I’d had some sort of insider tip to take tonight instead. I’ll need a steady supply of tea if I have to deal with the TTC in this snow.
I was craving a chai tonight but it’s late and I decided I wanted something mellower. So I went for my sample of this, hoping the chocolate might smooth it out and make it a good compromise.
Indeed it does. I agree that this is more a spice tea than a chai, but I really don’t mind. The cinnamon is at the forefront here, with the chocolate hanging a bit behind but really enhancing the flavour. I like it quite a lot, and it is reminding me of the delicious Super Chocolate from DavidsTea.
This tea is very distinctive. So, I don’t find I drink it particularly often but I have a tin-full and once in a while get the urge to make a big pot of it.
Taffy Terror/Gunpowder Taffy is sweet, but it maintains a nice kind of rustic/earthy flavour by not overriding the green tea. It’s really quite satisfying and for how sweet it is I find I drink a lot of it at once. The fruitiness, while I wouldn’t be able to identify it as apricot, balances it nicely. It’s helping me avoid eating more as that seems to be all I want to do this evening.
Pure Chai simmered in almond milk for as long as it took me to do the dishes and shower, and then some used in my pancakes? Delicious! Coconut- and oat-flour pancakes have become my comfort food, and they are absolutely perfect to experiment with dumping different teas into. Neverending fun!
I really love this one, and crave it often. It fits in nicely with all sorts of times of day. I just wish I had more of it! I’ll have to see if there is any left in the stores.
This tea is quite interesting. The leaves look like black tea, and the liquor is dark, but it turns out lighter-tasting than I expect. Last night I re-steeped it for the first time. It definitely lost a fair amount of flavour, but was more than drinkable on the second steep. It still tasted great but what I love about this tea is that it makes me feel like I have fruit juice in my mouth! That was gone on the second infusion.
This tea of the month thing is great because I always need to be trying new teas, but it’s also heartbreaking.
Actually, I was told by DT that some Teas of the Month will stick around for good while others will fade into the either…I guess it just depends on sales or something like that.
Oh, Fantasy Island. I owe the very low level of productivity I have left to you. If you hadn’t come into my life, this paper would be even less written than it is now.
Tonight I decided to dress this up with some of the coconut sweetener and half and half. Sweetening teas is very alien to me, and it feels so naughty. This is accepting it nicely but it’s really not necessary. The tea is so great as it is so intensely flavourful on its own.
This tea gets better each time I try it. It’s so delicate. It’s grassy, but in the lightest most pleasant way possible. I do get a slightly sweet hay flavour and scent from it, which takes me back to summers hanging out at the stables.
Also makes me want to experiment with more Chinese greens. I think this is the only one I have.
This is absolutely my study/tea mission for the weekend! I’ve been waiting for the perfect opportunity to spend the day re-steeping – I’ve never made it past three infusions either before it was bedtime…Amazing tea!
I’m always over-ambitious in my estimation of how many cups of tea I can drink in an evening. I feel unstoppable but eventually my bladder protests! I’ve got lots more studying this weekend, too, so I’ll try for an earlier start.
Hahah same here! Starting early is the key, I guess. Good luck on steeping and studying!
I love this tea! i think I got to five infusions before it started to slow down.
I have a quiet day ahead of me, so maybe I’ll pull this out again and try for five infusions!
I was only able to get to five good infusions. For the last infusion I left the steeper in for too long, so I suspect that I could probably do one more good steep.
