I cold brewed my sample of this overnight. All the reviews screamed TART, and I mean of course, hibiscus! So I threw in some Turkish cherry tisane at the last minute and it’s screamingly good. Roll on summer.

A couple of Christmases ago now I got a ton of this from my mum, with a cute keep calm sticker on the front that said KEEP CALM MEM AND DRINK TEA. Nice. A month after that I got a dream job that flipped my life upside down and I no longer had to breathe deeply and drink tea to keep calm, so this mostly got reserved for guests. I just discovered this evening they’ve drunk it all. Thanks guests. Nice brew!

I’ve passed over this sample so many times because it just doesn’t LOOK like a blend I want to drink, but I’m an idiot because all the ingredients are like yeah, yeah, YEAH! I went on an iced tea bender yesterday afternoon and packed some of this in my beautiful glass tea bottle to cold brew overnight for work today. I’m so glad I did because today is stinking hot too, and this iced blend is HEAVEN. Pine, lime, coconut and a dash of black? Yes, thank you. I want to try this one with some fizz in it, and maybe a splash of booze. This is a winner!

A big ol’ 2L jug half-filled with this and a couple scoops of Turkish Apple, hot brewed at double strength and then heaped with ice. SUMMER.

Just don’t forget that green tea will come out bitter if brewed at boil, you idiot. I normally cold brew these days but I was desperate for iced tea yesterday and didn’t have anything prepared!

This blend still reminds me so much of that weird DT blend, just a little less odd and a little more palatable. Or not. Who knows. That DT blend will haunt me.

Oh bless, I came back to this tea today after scaring myself right off it when I first got it by trying it FAR too strong. It is a very strong brew (something I like about the plain Ajiri tea, TBH) but with the ginger it can get overwhelming. Today I tried just one scoop for my 500ml mug, with a tsp of sugar and some milk. It was a cockle-warming sort of thing for a rainy day and it worked beautifully.

1 tsp 17 OZ / 500 ML

mmm that sounds tasty

I don’t have this in my cupboard at home but we’ve just got it in at the hotel for the season! My boss hasn’t moved into “weird tea” land before so I’m very excited and doing my best to promote it because it’s delicious. The other reviewer is right, a bit of milk and sugar and it’s a delicious dessert tea.

85 — very good! you should try this tea!
80-70 — I enjoyed this and will happily drink it again.
65-50 — Fine. Unremarkable.
45-35 — this wasn’t the worst drink ever but I was disappointed; it didn’t live up to my expectations at all.
30-0 — I didn’t enjoy this tea and that makes me sad.

MY TEASTORY:

Grandad got me started young, white (a LOT of white) Irish breakfast with two.

I never strayed far from that until the world of T2 Tea came to Brisbane some years ago, and now I don’t know what I’d do without a pantry full of tea options.

These days I prefer to drink my teas straight without sweetener (though I appreciate some black variations shine better with milk and/or a dash of honey/sugar). I also love a speedy iced tea (hot brewed then poured over ice), and my latest obsession is cold brewing (which doesn’t make a lot of sense, as Australia is headed into winter and I live in the coldest corner of the country, but oh well).

I’d love to make a bunch of tea friends on here, especially those who can talk Aussie teas with me. I’ve recently come back from a jaunt to North America and it was a real hoot to hit up DAVIDsTEA after reading so many reviews! I wish I’d had the chance to get to more stores… but I’m happy with what I got back past customs. See those teas and my local jams in my reviews.

I LOVE:
+ black teas
+ white teas
+ oolongs
+ flavoured versions of all three of the above
+ herbal infusions and fruit tisanes

NOT A FAN:
+ most green teas
+ LICORICE ROOT (my sworn enemy) and aniseed flavours
