Good Morning Joy! Its really cold here the last couple of days (since when is Texas colder than portions of Antartica?) and the tea is flowing. The cup is very hot, its chilly in the house and all I can get through the shock of the two is that green tea burst and the astringent taste afterwards. Maybe it’ll be enough to thaw my brain.
Saw this reviewed yesterday and then saw it on “After Christmas” sale at Starbucks this evening. I like it. Brews a nice, clear rust-brown. Has a pleasant aroma and delivers on that promise with a burst of green tea flavor in the mouth. Slightly tannic and astringent on the finish.
Preparation
I don’t usually drink bagged tea due to the quality often being suspect, although this is actually not a real tea, an herbal tisane. I do like Tazo’s teas though. My wife bought this because at her work they make this with honey and she says it helps her sinuses clear out. What I thought about this tisane is that it was really really bitter, to the point of not being able to drink it, even with a tablespoon of honey. I would drink it every once in a while but not recommend it.
Preparation
Helps the sinuses? Wish I woulda had this in my stash this week! I bet adding ginger would even increase that effect.
If you want ginger you should try http://steepster.com/teas/rishi-tea/331-pu-erh-ginger It has too much ginger for me. It’s like the ginger slaps you in the face.
Today I noticed the French on the packaging actually reads that it has “a suspicion [un soupçon] of fresh apricots and vanilla from Tahiti,” and that is exactly how I would describe my experience with this tea: I suspect that there are fresh apricots, because I think I can smell them, but I have no evidence based on the taste. It always seemed to brew weak, so finally I tried it with two teabags, and it’s just a weak tea that basically tastes like fruit water. I’ll probably stick it in the back of the cabinet and also just try it again when it gets warm as an iced tea.
I was reminded by Cofftea that I had a bag or two of this still in that neverending sampler pack I have. I am used to the Chai Tea Latte from Starbucks, so this was different for me to have it “plain” (no milk). It was such a perfect blend of spices for this clear wintery day and perked me up for the last half of my shift. I didn’t miss the milk at all! And the flavor was consistent through two steepings. Spicy, like a peppery flavor, and well, there’s just something about chai that is delicious. But to be fair, I was having a lot of pepper with my lunch and snacked on a few (ahem) gingersnap cookies today, so maybe I was in a chai kind of mood. I thought it maybe could have used a little sugar, but never got away to get some. But I enjoyed it just the same!
Sometimes I order a chai tea (dirty or clean) instead of a latte w/ different syrups. I like egg nog, mocha, gingerbread, and caramel brulee. But you have to be very careful and emphatically stress “I’d like a chai tea not a latte.” Sometimes I add “no milk, just steeped in hot water”, because they still look at me weird. Steeped in steamed apple juice is also VERY yummy. I make that at home during the holidays.
Excellent! I like this with milk and Truvia (one packet). I leave the tea bag in while I’m drinking – this is probably a huge no-no, but I love really strong tea.
Preparation
I realized exactly what this tasted like during my recent cold: chewable vitamin C. No, honey (an antimicrobial) does not help it go down easier. With this epiphany, I would adjust the rating for flavor to about a 35, but it actually does have some health merit so I’ve left the current rating of 44 intact.
The aroma of the tea bag waiting in the cup while the water heats beckons what one might think is a refreshing cup. The tea actually more closely approximates a citrusy cold medicine, which is actually how I prefer to use it, to ward off illness.
Drank one of these this morning from Starbucks. It’s way too cold for it to be iced, so I drank it hot. I expected to hate it, but it ended up being ok. Pretty sweet, but not bad considering it was from a concentrate. Since giving up coffee, I haven’t been to a Starbucks in probably 3 years or more. It’s nice to know I have something decent to drink (other than a tea bag) the next time I go with friends.
Today I bought my coffee beans at the Starbucks on campus, and they offered me a free cup of coffee. I asked if I could have tea instead and they said sure! so I thought it would be a good opportunity to try the whole leaf version for free!
It is an improvement. Still weak but a touch more flavor. Less bitter but still some bitterness. All in all, a very lackluster tea. Bumping the rating up a bit since it is an improvement over the previous version, but I can’t recommend.
In Philly – forget about it!! Half the time they don’t even want to give you the free coffee!! I got this one in NJ at Rutgers University Starbucks and they were super nice.
They have to. It’s store policy. If they give you any trouble, call customer service and report them.
This tea (from my local Starbucks) is somehow over brewed yet tasteless! I am experiencing strong notes of cardboard cup and a distinct aroma of wooden stirring stick. Ugh. My New Year’s Resolution is to go out and buy an electric tea kettle for work (if I don’t get one as my pollyanna gift – I put it on my list!) so I don’t have to put up with this sort of thing!!!!!!!
Preparation
Did we drink from the same cup? Must not have, since i tried this awhile ago…but I had much the same experience. Maybe it’s not overbrewed—-that’s just how this tea tastes? :P
The worst part is paying almost 2 dollars for this! I can make my own top notch tea for about 30 cents a cup!
I try not to think about that part whenever I have a particularly disappointing cup of tea that I bought somewhere. D:
I wasn’t satisfied by this tea. If you’re a fan of a heavily earthy tea/tips, you may like it, as I have some associates how are fond of this tea as far as green tips go. I found it really difficult to enjoy, and if you expect a more standard green, you might find it so too.
Good after-dinner tea, as others have noted…because I drink a lot of tea over the course of a day, I like to drink something decaf if I’m going to have tea in the evening. (TBH, sometimes I skip it at night and just go straight for hot chocolate instead.)
The flavor is good, but there’s something that catches in the back of your throat if you drink a lot of it at once. Small sips don’t result in the tickling sensation about which I’m talking, but downing a whole lot at once does—-almost like your throat’s being attacked by a curious ostrich. I’ll finish the box, but I’ll drink it s-l-o-w-l-y.
This bag of Passion is the last one of sampler box I had from Tazo. It brews to a deep purple-red color and smells like cherries and other berries. The taste is tart and floral with a moderate pucker.
Preparation
So after my caffeine and sugar wake up this morning (courtesy of PG Special Blend and Domino Sugar), I pulled this out of my bag at work and made a cup. It’s green, it’s kinda toasty flavored, and grassy flavored at the same time. Nothing special, but not bad still. Kept me going at work through two steepings.
Can you tell I’m working through the Tazo Sampler pack that I’ve had forever? I really only bought it because I couldn’t find the Lotus flavor and the Sampler has two Lotus bags, but about two months later, I found it at Whole Foods.
It’s kind of strange that since I’m sick, I’ve been pulling out more green teas to drink. I’d have thought I’d want the strongest blends right now if only for the increased energy. I guess it’s more about how they feel on the tongue than anything else while I’m feeling so crappy. I sure can’t taste this but it “feels” good!
